Ruth M. Rock

Peru — Ruth M. Rock, 79, of the Union Road, Peru died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Mooers Forks, Nov. 20, 1924, the daughter of Arthur and Ruby (Garrand) Forkey.

She graduated high school from Altona School.

Ruth was a very active member of the Peru Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 33 years. She was former president and vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary and served as chairwoman for the Field Day and Sunshine Committee. She was also a member of the Liaison Committee, the Altar Rosary Society and a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church. She also worked at the Peru Central School.

She enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her loving family.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bernard C. Rock of Peru, whom she married Oct. 14, 1947; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Vicki and Ken Defayette of Peru, Nancy O’Neil of Plattsburgh, Lucinda and Herb LaDuke of Peru and Amy and Kurt Walden of Binghamton; six grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Todd and Lauren Defayette of Schenectady, Tara Defayette of Rhode Island, Travis O’Neil of Middletown, Cody LaDuke of Peru and Aubrey and Brock Walden of Binghamton; two great-grandsons, Jake and Jack Defayette; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Sharon Forkey of Plattsburgh and Clarence and Jeanne Forkey of Morrisonville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister; and four brothers.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Members of the Peru Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary and Fire Commissioners will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru with Rev. William Reamer, chaplain of the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary.

Violet G. Ducatte

Cadyville — Violet G. Ducatte, 91, of Rabideau Street, Cadyville, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Cadyville on July 13, 1912, daughter of the late Noel and Jenny (Rock) Terrier.

Violet was a member of St. James Minor Parish in Cadyville.

Violet is survived by her cousins and caregivers for eleven years, Gary and Marie (Rabideau) Drollette of Cadyville; her life long friend and cousin, Agnes (Rabideau) Goddeau of the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh; and several other cousins.

Violet is predeceased by her husband, Orin; a brother, Robert; and an infant son, Charm.

At her request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. from St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Burial will be later in the year in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Cadyville Volunteer Fire Department.

Bernard L. Racette

DANNEMORA — Bernard L. Racette, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Redford on April 17, 1915, the son of Louis and Ursula (Supernaw) Racette.

He was employed at Dannemora State Hospital for over 30 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, the former Florence McCasland; a daughter, Carol Neuhaus of Jupiter, Fla.; a brother, Jerry Racette of Redford; and four sisters, Sister Agnes Racette of Plattsburgh, Rita Hahn of Plattsburgh, Genevieve Strong of Virginia and Olive Burdo of West Chazy; six grandchildren, Jay Dean, Jill Mayo, Jeff Dean, Jon Dean, Joel Dean and Randy Irvine; and six great-grand-children, Adriane, Jonathan, Jessica, Kesley, Taylor and MaKenna.

His parents; two brothers, Armand and Roland; a sister, Bernadette Hughes; and a foster daughter, Roberta Garrison, all died earlier.

Calling hours will be private for the family. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday from St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.

The O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret F. Joyal

Bordentown, N.J. — Margaret Ruth Finney Joyal, 74, of Bordentown Township passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at the Marcella Center in Burlington following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Keeseville, N.Y., she graduated from the Keeseville School District then attended the State University of New York in Plattsburgh where she earned her degree in teaching. She taught in Walden, N.Y., and at Clara Barton and Peter Muschal Schools in Bordentown and the Robbinsville and Roosevelt Schools in New Jersey. In 1972, she attended Trenton State Teachers College where she earned her certificate in special education. She then taught in the Willingboro School System for the next 25 years.

She was a member of the NJEA, Willingboro Teachers Association, Book Mates and W.O.W.’s.

She enjoyed dancing, sewing cats, concerts and spending summers at the family homestead in the Adirondacks.

The wife of the late Adrian "Bucky" Joyal; and daughter, of the late Harry and Ruth Finney.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and George Roberson III of Roebling; two grandchildren, Stacie and Erin Roberson; a sister-in-law, Gert Joyal of Concord, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the Huber-Moore Funeral Home, 517 Farnsworth Avenue, Bordentown. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Beverly National Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Marie L. George

MORRISONVILLE — Marie L. George, formerly of Morrisonville, N.Y., died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. She had been under physician’s care.

Mrs. George had been a member of St. Alexander’s Catholic Church in Morrisonville, N.Y., and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in New Holland, Pa. She was a homemaker, who had loved to bake and cook for her family.

Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose Alba Lemieux.

She graduated from the former D’ouville Academy in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was married for 52 years to Donald C. George.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Donald M. husband of Veronica George of Portland, Maine, and Michael F. married to Cindy George of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and her daughter, Kathleen married to Ed Warfel of Leola, Pa., with whom she and her husband resided with. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; her sister, Florence Hay of West Chazy, N.Y.; and a brother, Roland Lemieux of Richmond, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael J.; a brother, Albert Lemieux; and a sister, Frances Baynes.

The family will receive visitors later in the year at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A graveside service will also be held later in the year at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Homer Mose Manor

Ellenburg Depot — Homer Mose Manor, 75, of the Plank Road, Ellenburg Depot, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Mooers Forks on Nov. 29, 1928, son of William and Leona (Rabideau) Manor.

Homer was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during Korea. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Homer owned and operated Manor Salvage in Ellenburg Depot. He was an avid hunter.

Homer was predeceased by a son, Scott Manor; two brother and two sisters, Kenneth Manor, Ernest Manor, Beulah Delisle and Norma Antley.

Homer is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joanne (Varin) Manor of Ellenburg Depot; five sons, Homer S. Manor and companion Tammy Cole of Ellenburg Depot, Harold Manor of Mooers, Pat Manor and companion Mary Ellen Martin of Ellenburg Depot, Kevin Manor and his wife Darlene of Mooers and Don Manor of Ellenburg Depot; a daughter, Karen Gilman and her husband Bob of Ellenburg Depot; a brother, Eldmour Manor and his wife Gladys of Mooers; a sister, Gladys Hilliker of Champlain; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Lashway of Ellenburg and Joyce Manor of Altona; a brother-in-law, Nolan Antley of Texas; ten grandchildren, Stacie, Kristy, Jamie, Brandon, Matthew, Beth, Scott, Patrick, Alex and Katie; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A public graveside service will be held later in the year in Holy Angel’s Cemetery in Altona with full military honors.

Karen L. Meigs, 59, of Morrisonville, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Arrangements were incomplete Monday evening at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Dorothy Furman, 86, of Maple Street, Rouses Point, died on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at University Hospital in Tamarac, Fla.

She was born in Plattsburgh on May 16,1917.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

PHILIP CLARK MASON, 78, of Shelburne, Vt., and formerly of Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at the Wake Robin Retirement Community in Shelburne, Vt.

He was born March 19, 1925 in Plattsburgh, the son of Hebert P. and Elizabeth Clark Mason.

A memorial service will be held later this week at a time to be announced.
