Robert Joseph Collins Vincent

Mooers, N.Y. — Robert Joseph Collins Vincent, 72, of Mooers, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born April 16, 1931, in Plattsburgh, the son of Charles and Margaret (Herrick) Vincent.

He was a graduate of Mooers Central School and St. Michael's College in 1958. He was a distribution clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union, the American Legion Post 113 in Baldwinsville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 153.

Survivors include one brother, Roswell Vincent of Mooers; and four sisters, Evelyn Vincent of Mooers, Helen Polensky of Albany, Alice Vincent of Albany and Edith Vincent of Albany.

Two sisters, Doris Vincent of Mooers and Thelma Del Belso of Albany, N.Y., as well as two brothers, Clarence Vincent of Plattsburgh and Ralph Vincent of Mooers, predecease Robert.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Church in Mooers.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the Mooers Rescue squad or a charity of one's choosing.

Victor J. West

Rouses Point, N.Y. — Victor J. "Vic" West, 85, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

He was born in Mooers, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 1918, the son of Arthur and Cecilia (Manor) West.

Vic was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point, a member of the American Legion Post 912, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8722, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bishop Wadams Council 706 in Plattsburgh, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Rouses Point and a member of the Unique Auto Club.

Vic was a building contractor for most of his life. He owned and operated the West Pontiac dealership, the West Liquor Store and the West Building and Supply Co., each business located in Rouses Point.

His wife, the former Louise Gamache, died March 26, 1989. He is also predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Hector, Emmett and Edward; and a sister, Edith.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Viola and Leon Lamere of Mooers; a sister-in-law, Louise West of Auburn, N.Y.; and ten nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 19th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Mooers Forks in the spring.

Memorial donations in Vic's name may be made to St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point.

Louis D. "Smitty" Smith Jr.

Ellenburg Center, N.Y. — Louis D. "Smitty" Smith Jr., 69, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Altona, N.Y., on Jan. 26, 1934, the son of Louis D. and Edith (Guerin) Smith.

Smitty was a member of St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8793 and the New York State Magistrates Association. He worked for the Ellenburg Town Highway Department for many years. He was also a town justice for many years and a former member of the Ellenburg Center Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, the former Alice Thibeau of Ellenburg Center; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Joseph and Kim Smith of Katy, Texas, Donald and Debbie Smith of Moody, Texas, James and Sarah Smith of Ellenburg Center, David Smith of Altona and Mark Smith of Ellenburg Center; a daughter, Debbie Medford of Brighton, Tenn.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James Smith of Holyoke, Mass., and Gerald and Sandra Smith of West Chazy; a sister, Susan Ferguson of Conroe, Texas; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 2 p.m. from St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ellenburg Center Fire Department in Smitty's name.

Real "Joey" Plante III

Plattsburgh, N.Y. — Real "Joey" Plante III, 35, of 456 Durand Rd., Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Saturday morning, Jan. 17, 2004, at CVPH in Plattsburgh. He had been a patient there since Nov. 21, 2003.

He was born in Malone, N.Y., on Oct. 4, 1968, the son of Real "Andy" and Joyce (Hodges) Plante Jr. He graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone in 1987 and attended Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg, N.Y.

On Dec. 31, 1988, he was united in marriage to the former Karen A. Thebert at St. Joseph's Church in Malone. She survives.

He was an industrial supervisor for Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora. He retired in 2001 because of his health.

He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh and a past member of St. John Bosco Church and Holy Name Society of Malone. He was a member of CSEA. He was an avid New York Yankee's fan. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, hunting and collecting antiques and baseball memorabilia. He was a devoted husband and father.

Along with his wife Karen, he is survived by his parents, Real "Andy" and Joyce Plante Jr. of Dannemora, N.Y.; two daughters, Jennifer Marie Plante and Emily Catherine Plante, both of Plattsburgh; one sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Howard Reyell of Dannemora; a life long friend, Albert "Sonny" Duquette and his wife Denise of Nicholville, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Malone. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to a scholarship fund for his daughters’ college education.

Harriet E. Boyer, 98, of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home, Malone, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at that facility.

She was born in Malone, N.Y., on Nov. 6, 1905, the daughter of Clement and Mary (Paquin) Boyer.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church. Spring burial will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery.
