Published: 1/16/04Armond J. GrundlerPort Henry, N.Y. —Armond J. Grundler, 79, of the Elk Inn Road, died Jan. 13, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born on Dec. 23, 1924, at Patterson, N.J., the son of Henry and Margaret (Corley) Grundler. He was a retired roofer. Armond served in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Grundler; his children, Veronika Grundler of New Jersey, Carolyn Grundler of Vermont, Virginia Woods of Crown Point, Mia Bilow of Port Henry, Richard Litchfield of Mineville and John Grundler of Kansas; his brother, Henry Grundler of New Jersey; his sisters, Barbara Tempe of New Jersey and Margaret Milewski of New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Port Henry, with Monsignor John McAvoy officiating. Spring burial will be in the South Moriah Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Assoc., 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086-0928. Edith E. StantonMorrisonville — Edith E. Stanton, 84, of Rand Hill Road, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at her home under the care of her daughters and Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Beekmantown on March 7, 1919, the daughter of Frederick and Hattie (St. Germain) Rivers. Mrs. Stanton was a member of St. Alexander's Church and a former member of St. Alexander's Rosary Society. She married Wilbur L. Stanton on Oct. 12, 1940, at St. Peter's Church. Edith raised her children and helped care for her grandchildren. Mrs. Stanton worked for Hydro Molding for 15 years from 1958 until retiring in 1973. Survivors include her husband, Wilbur Stanton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Robert LaPierre of Rand Hill and Connie and Michael Gagnon of Cadyville; three grandchildren, Julie LaPierre, Jamie LaPierre and Kelli Trombley and her husband Louis; one great - granddaughter, Savannah Rose Trombley; two sisters, Isabelle Bryan of Mechanicville and Elizabeth "Bess" Reyell of Beartown; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick Rivers and William Rivers; and four sisters, Evelyn Thompson, Gertrude Bushey, Florence Sears and Dorothy Reyell. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Barbara B. MainzerJay, N.Y. — Barbara B. Mainzer of Jay, N.Y., died peacefully in the Nursing Facility of Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Jan. 15, 2004, at the age of 76. She was born on Nov. 14, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pa., to William and Helen (Walker) Bauer. She graduated from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa., and attended Drexel University in Philadelphia. She was employed by Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company and later by Jefferson Medical College were she met her husband. She married Thomas R. Mainzer on July 2, 1955, in Ardmore, Pa. In 1957, they moved to Akron, Ohio, where Dr. Mainzer served his internship and residency. They lived in Bremerton, Wash., from 1963 to 1965, when Dr. Mainzer was on active duty with the U.S. Navy, then settled in Huntingdon, Pa. While in Huntingdon, she was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and was active in the Women of St. John's and the Altar Guild. She was also a Cub Scout den mother. Other interests were playing Bridge, sewing and reading. She is survived by her husband and four children, Thomas of Syracuse, N.Y., Susan Mitchell of Richmond, Va., Nancy of Somerset, N.J., and Gary of Harrisburg, Pa. Also by six wonderful grandchildren, Thomas III of Easton, Pa., Michael and Erin of Syracuse, Brenna, Shelley and Christina of Richmond. Barbara and her husband retired to Jay in 1991. They enjoyed both domestic and foreign travel and especially visiting with children and grandchildren. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the St. Eustace Episcopal Church in Lake Placid. Rev. Judson Pealer, rector, will officiate. Cremation will follow and burial will take place at the Jay Central Cemetery at a later date. George Elmer Maus, 85, of the St. Regis Falls Nursing Home in Massena, N.Y., and formerly of Tupper Lake and Binghamton, N.Y., died at that facility Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., the son of George Benjamin and Flossie (Wagner) Maus. Calling hours were held Thursday, Jan. 15th, from 1 p.m. until departure to a 3 p.m. funeral Mass at St. Alphonsus Church. An honor guard played taps following the Mass. Burial will be held in Vestal Hill, N.Y., early next week. Arrangements were with the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Reta Elizabeth Wells, 80, of 124 Underwood Road, Tupper Lake, died Jan. 13, 2004, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y. She was born on March 1, 1923, in Piercefield, N.Y., the daughter of Henry and Sofrona Ayotte (Manor). Calling hours will be at the Richer Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 16th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held on Jan. 17th at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church. Burial will be held in May at Holy Name Cemetery. |
