Published: 1/15/04Florence M. WoodPlattsburgh —Florence M. Wood, 93, of Route 22, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at her home. She was born in Champlain on Sept. 17, 1910, the daughter of Warren and Grace (Darby) McBride. Florence graduated from Chazy Central Rural School in 1929. She married Kenneth C. Wood on Jan. 6, 1932, in Chazy. For many years Florence was involved in music as a choir member and a pianist in the Church of the Nazarene. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed the company of her many friends and loved life which she lived to the fullest. Survivors include two sons and one daughter, Courtland Wood, Ronald Wood and his wife Sharon, all of Plattsburgh; and Shirley Smith and her husband Robert of Jericho, Vt.; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; four brothers; one sister; and one great-granddaughter. Calling hours will be on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the spring in the Stafford Cemetery in Beekmantown. Thompson, 83, of Dennisport, Mass., and Brooksville, Fla., died peacefully late Monday evening, Jan. 12, 2004, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in AuSable Forks, N.Y. Lena's business career was varied. She worked for the City of Plattsburgh, N.Y., opened two toy stores and worked for the accounting firm of Vlacich and Mitchell in Orleans. She ended her career working for the May Institute in Chatham before retiring to Brooksville, Fla. Lena was passionate about her family, loved to knit and take long, hearty walks. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Mitchell of Dennisport, Linda Nielsen of Woodstock, Conn., and Deborah Thompson of Dennis; plus 11 grandchildren; and 13 great - grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl; and her son, Harry. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity in West Harwich, Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601. Edith E. StantonPlattsburgh — Edith E. Stanton, 84, of Rand Hill Road, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at her home under the care of her daughters and Hospice of the North Country. She was born in Beekmantown on March 7, 1919, the daughter of Frederick and Hattie (St. Germain) Rivers. Mrs. Stanton was a member of St. Alexander's Church and a former member of St. Alexander's Rosary Society. She married Wilbur L. Stanton on Oct. 12, 1940, at St. Peter's Church. Edith raised her children and helped care for her grandchildren. Mrs. Stanton worked for Hydro Molding for 15 years from 1958 until retiring in 1973. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia and Robert LaPierre of Plattsburgh and Connie and Michael Gagnon of Cadyville; two sisters, Isabelle Bryan of Mechanicville and Elizabeth "Bess" Reyell of Beartown; three grandchildren, Julie LaPierre, Jamie LaPierre and Kelli Trombley; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Rose Trombley; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick Rivers and William Rivers; and four sisters, Evelyn Thompson, Gertrude Bushey, Florence Sears and Dorothy Reyell. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Shirley M. BaileyPeasleeville — Shirley M. Bailey, 65, of the Peasleeville Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 11, 1938, the daughter of John and Gladys (Besaw) Marcotte. She graduated from Peru Central School in 1957. Shirley was employed for many years at the Champlain Valley Apple Storage in Peru and Arpak in Plattsburgh for several years. She was an active volunteer for St. Augustine's Church in Peru and very much enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Richard P. Bailey of Peasleeville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Stein and Jack Seymour of Peasleeville and Heidi and Dave Gillis of San Antonio, Texas; a son, A.J. Bailey of Peasleeville; four grandchildren, Brandon Stein and Tiffany, Trenton, and Redith Byrne; eight sisters and four brothers-in-law, Lucille Frenyea of Peru, Gloria and Ross Sarbou of Peru and Deland, Fla., Evelyn Pelkey of Boca Raton, Fla., Barbara Licourt of Peru and Deland, Fla., Norma and Jim Huddleston of Grenada, Miss., Mary Seymour of Peru, Kathy and Richard Landry of Jay and Theresa and Andrew Bair of Peasleeville; two sisters-in-law and spouses, Ann and Mahlon Wright and Denise and Winston Wright; and several nieces and nephews. At Shirley's request there will be no public calling hours or services. Donations in her memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Margaret M. Derouchie, 83, formerly of State Route 37 in Ft. Covington, passed away at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone on Wednesday morning, Jan. 14, 2004, where she had been a resident since 1996. She was born in Ft. Covington on Aug. 25, 1920, the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Nellie (Gleason) Smythe. Calling hours will be in the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Ft. Covington on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church in Ft. Covington, with the Rev. Stephen Rocker, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Richard G. Filion, 46, of the Number 5 Rd., Churubusco, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born in Malone, N.Y., on May 6, 1957, the son of Gilles and Molly (Donah) Filion. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 16th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A wake service will be held at 6 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Wheelock of St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Cremation will follow at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Ellenburg Depot. Myrtle M. Raville, 99, of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at that facility. She was born on April 6, 1904, in Malone, N.Y., the daughter of Allan and Agnes (Lintner) McDonald. Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, from 1 to 4 p.m. in St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. in St. Helen's Church, Chasm Falls, N.Y. Spring burial will take place in St. Helen's Cemetery, Chasm Falls, N.Y. Bernadette Marie Hughes, 77, of Paducah, Ky., formerly of South Charleston, W. Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paducah. Her parents were Louis and Ursula Racette of Redford, N.Y. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15th, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16th, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Paducah. Rev. Al Bremer will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in New York. Charles Burns, Tech. Sgt, USAF (Ret.), 67, died Dec. 27, 2003, after a lengthy and courageous fight against cancer. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on March 19, 1936, the son of William and Eliza (Yelle) Burns. Services were held in Georgia on Dec. 30, 2003, at the Pope Dickson & Son Morrow Chapel. Interment followed at Sherwood Memorial Park with full military honors.
