Published: 1/14/04Nancy Jean WebsterMooers — Nancy Jean Webster, 63, born on May 17, 1941. She was born at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, N.Y. She was the only child of John A. Webster and Jean E. Webster. Nancy passed away peacefully at her residence at 713 Route 22, Mooers, N.Y., on Dec. 15, 2003, with her loving companion, Aurel Phaneuf by her side, as he was in life. Ms. Webster was a graduate of West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Md. It was a private academy. After finishing at the academy she attended LaGuardia College of NYC She obtained her master’s degree in human services. She later taught severely handicapped children. For those who knew Nancy well, all knew her love for music and of singing. Nancy started playing the piano with lessons at age four. Her first instructor was of German decent she taught her to read and play music. She became an advanced pianist. In her teens, Nancy attended the Juliard School of Music. Her love of music and singing brought smiles and happiness to all that touched her life. Nancy’s journey through life led her to the North county in 1983. She met Aurel Phaneuf and they stayed together until her journey ended with Aurel by her side. She is preceded by her father, John A. Webster; and her mother, Jean E. Webster. She is survived by an aunt, Ruth Koeburn of New York City; and a niece, Cherin Mehs of Jamestown, N.Y.; and many friend. Services were by E.F. Drown Funeral Home in Mooers, N.Y. Services were private. Burial was at the Whispering Maples Memorial Garden in Ellenburg Depot. A private memorial service will be held this spring. Viens, 81, of Champlain, died suddenly on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004. He was born in Richford, Vt., on June 16, 1922, the son of Ulrich and Valeda Viens. Pat was a member of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past Commander of the American Legion. He retired from the United States Customs Service in 1998, after 25 years of service in Nassau, Bahamas, Dorval, Quebec and Champlain, N.Y. Pat was a veteran of World War II and served as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy. Pat's hobbies were numerous and varied. Many happy hours were spent fishing and hunting, ham-radio operating, coin collecting and cheering on the hockey team as a member of the Cardinals Booster Club. He is survived by his wife and loving companion of 57 years, Margaret "Bib" Viens (Maher); his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Joanne Viens of Lachine, Quebec; his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Gary Wiley of Suffolk, Va.; four grandchildren, Kaleigh Wiley and Christine, James and Nicole Viens; also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Terry and Bernard Murphy of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; his sister-in-law, Rita Viens of Rockford, Mich.; his brother-in-law, Gene Maher of Yonkers, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, John. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church in Champlain. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Regis F. Linda Susan FacteauPLATTSBURGH — Linda Susan Facteau, 56, of Mallard Drive, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh on July 29, 1947, the daughter of Kenneth and Patricia (King) Malpass. Mrs. Facteau was a former member of the Adirondack Humane Society. She married Robert "Bob" Facteau in Plattsburgh on Sept. 16, 1969. Linda worked for Lockrow's Inc., for many years and presently for Bombardier Transit Corp. Survivors include her husband, Bob of Plattsburgh; seven siblings, Sandra and Brian Austin of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Rex and Tammy Malpass of Plattsburgh, Patricia Malpass of St. Petersburg, Fla., Candace Malpass of Plattsburgh, Karen and Tim Hentschel of Lansing, Kan., Mick Malpass of Plattsburgh and Eric and Sue Malpass of Ithica, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews also survive. Linda is predeceased by her parents, Kenneth Malpass and Patricia Lopez. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in the Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society, 134 Idaho Avenue, Plattsburgh, NY 12903. Anita (Rickson) GilesPlattsburgh — Anita (Rickson) Giles, 89, of South Peru Street, Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh on July 4, 1914, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Rickson. Anita graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. She was a secretary in the Plattsburgh area for many years. Anita married Frank C. Giles on Aug. 6, 1937, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh by the Rev. J.H. Bachand. Her beloved husband predeceased her on Jan. 1, 1983. Anita was an avid reader, enjoyed crafts, knitting, playing bridge and watching golf. Survivors include a cousin, Donald J. Clark of Leesburg, Fla., and her circle of friends in Virginia and Plattsburgh area. Anita will be sadly missed by her extended family, Bruce and Sue Stevens of Plattsburgh, Kimberlee and Matthew Sorrell of Boulder, Colo., Michelle and Gregg Duval of Saranac and Scott, Laura, Charlotte, Sophia and Luke Stevens of Morrisonville. Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church officiating. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Margaret G. HebertsPERU — Margaret G. Heberts, 82, of Apple Valley Drive, Peru, and formerly of Keeseville and AuSable Forks, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Keeseville, March 3, 1921, the daughter of Nelson and Eva (Little) Baillargeon. She was a nurse's aid at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. Mrs. Heberts was a member of the Golden Apple Club and very much enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening flowers and vegetables, walking and fishing. Margaret was also a homemaker and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Raymond Heberts of Weston, Vt.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol and Bert Tromblee of Essex Junction, Vt., and Mary Ann Ford of Keeseville; nine grandchildren, Marcia Hart, Mark and Nathan Heberts, Stephanie Tromblee, Anne Wimette, Michael Tromblee, Rene Towers, Brooke Brown and John Mark Ford; five great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Hannah, Kate, and Nicholas; one brother, Francis Baillargeon of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Raymond W. Heberts; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Heberts; a son-in-law, Mark Ford; three brothers, Robert, Euclid and Morris; and a sister, Irene. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at noon at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the Holy Name Cemetery in AuSable Forks. Donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Rescue Squad. Gordon P. Costin Sr.Plattsburgh — Gordon P. Costin Sr., 66, of the Moffitt Road, Plattsburgh, passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 10, 1937, son of Paul P. and Isabelle (Gordon) Costin. Gordon attended Keeseville Central School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Gordon had been employed by Georgia Pacific for over 40 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Cumberland Head. Gordon enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was always helping anyone who needed assistance. Gordon is survived by his wife, Mildred C. "LaFountain Gursky" Costin of Plattsburgh; 11 children, Markia Sloan of Westport, Tammy Cushing and her husband Tommy of Willsboro, Gordon P. Costin Jr. and Tina Bell of Westport, Thomas J. Costin and his wife Ann of Keeseville, Jeffrey Scott Costin and his wife Lisa of Keeseville, John Gursky of Plattsburgh, Thomas Gursky and his wife Elizabeth of Winter Springs, Fla., Kathy Gursky of Schenectady, Karen Gursky and her husband Tommy Hanchett of Moriah, Stanley Gursky and his wife Pam of Hudson Falls and Laurie Relyea of Albany; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Karl Costin and his wife Beverly of Plattsburgh, Daniel Costin of Plattsburgh and Paul Costin of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Costin; and two granddaughters, Lisa Gursky and April May Sloan. Gary Frank JoinerCrown Point, NY — Gary Frank Joiner, 59, of Station Road, Crown Point died Jan. 12, 2004, at his home after battling a long illness. He was born July 5, 1944, in Troy, N.Y., the son of Lester and Jane (Forgette) Joiner. Gary worked many years as a heavy-equipment mechanic and truck driver. He loved spending time with his family, racing snowmobiles and stock cars. He also enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, wood carving and old engine tractors. He was a volunteer fireman with the Crown Point Fire Department for over 20 years. He served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his children, Christine Stores of Ballston Lake, Michelle Quain of Hague, Vicky Brassard of Mineville, Debra Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt., Anita Johnson, Julie LaMotte of Crown Point and Frank Joiner of Crown Point. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Delora Miles of Albany, Sally Joiner of Brant Lake, Lester Joiner of Crown Point, Judy Millington of Ticonderoga, Jeff Joiner of Lewiston, Maine and a half brother, Bill Tucker of Burke, N.Y. He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine; his parents, Lester and Jane Edna Joiner; and his brother, Kim Joiner. Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Gary’s memory may be made to Kidney Dialysis Unit, Community Hospital, Elizabethtown, NY 12932 Ralph Leroy CookmanCHAMPLAIN — Ralph Leroy Cookman, 65, of Champlain passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Fredericksburg, Va., the son of George and Anne (Wright) Cookman. He retired from Wyeth as an assistant maintenance foreman after 38 years of service. He was a Village of Champlain Trustee for 16 years, Deputy Mayor for 10 years, Town of Champlain Council Member for 8 years, the past chairman for the Board of Assessments, a member of the American Legion Post 767 in Champlain, the Knights of Columbus Council 3525 in Champlain, St. Mary's Parish Council and a past member of the Champlain Fire Department. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America and coached CYO Basketball. His parents and his brother, George Cookman who passed away in December, predecease Ralph. Survivors include his wife Lillian (McKenzie) Cookman of Champlain; one son and daughter-in-law, Duncan and Ruth Cookman of Pineville, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Mel Dupee of Watertown; two sisters-in-law, Carol Favreau and her husband Jack of Champlain and Ann Duprey and her husband Norman of West Chazy; three grandchildren, Michelle Chiodi, Adam Dupee and Laurin Cookman; one aunt, Ruth Scales of Rouses Point; and several cousins also survive him. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. Stone, 101, of Eagle Lake, Ticonderoga, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Helen Porter Nursing Home of Middlebury, Vt. She was born Sept. 6, 1902, in Ticonderoga. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Mr. Elliott A. Shaw of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Blanche N. Savage, 91, of Brushton, N.Y., and formerly of Malone and North Bangor, died early Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, 2004, at the home of her granddaughter Mary Legacy in Chateaugay, N.Y., while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country Inc. She was born in Burke, N.Y., Dec. 3, 1912, the daughter of the late Alton and Florence (Lawrence) Dumas. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery on the Lake Titus Road in Malone in the spring. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone. Elizabeth M. Thebert, 85, of Center Street, Fort Covington, N.Y., died Monday evening, Jan. 12, 2004, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jo Thebert in Clay, N.Y. She was born in Fort Covington, N.Y., on Jan. 8, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Harriet LaPage Brown. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington, at a date to be announced later in the spring. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are through the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home of Fort Covington. |
