George A. Kimball

Fort Collins, Colo. — George A. Kimball, born April 1, 1928, in Baldwin, N.Y., died Jan. 8, 2004, in Fort Collins, Colo.

George was a naval veteran, having served his nation during World War II. He was a high school basketball coach and educator in New York from 1952 to 1984. He taught and coached basketball at Plattsburgh High School from 1952-1967, and in Algonquin Middle School and Averill Park High School from 1968-1984. He served as the Director of Athletics in the Averill Park School District. He retired to Fort Collins, Colo., in 1984.

Survivors include his sons, Andrew Kimball and his wife Cathy of Denver, Colo., John Kimball and his wife Mary of East Greenbush, N.Y., and James Kimball and his wife Kathy of Fort Collins, Colo.; and daughters Kathleen Kimball of Loveland, Colo., and Mary (Kimball) Coupe and her husband Thomas of Fort Collins, Colo. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Zachary Kimball, Mary Teresa Kimball and James Coupe. He has multiple nieces and nephews.

His leisure time was spent with avid pursuit on the golf course, watching and attending sporting events and playing bridge. He was a master bridge player and instructor. He leaves behind many lifelong friends, former colleagues and students, having been appreciated by many for his quick wit and fondness of a good joke.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 300 Whedbee in Fort Collins. Personal notes to the family can be left at www.reagerfuneral.com

Dorothy Eloise Carpenter

Putnam Station — Dorothy Eloise Carpenter, 94, formerly of Putnam Station, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home of Ticonderoga.

Born in Westport, Dec. 26, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Louise Carpenter.

Miss Carpenter was raised in Westport. She was a graduate of Hartwick College, where she was part of the first graduating class.

She lived in Putnam Station for many years, where she was employed as an elementary school teacher in the Putnam School System, before her retirement in the 1960's.

She was a member of the Putnam United Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Putnam Grange.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Edwin, Orson and Stewart Carpenter; and three sisters, Edith, Rena and Mary; and also several other family members including her niece, Elizabeth Van Hoesen.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga.

A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Sharon Weber, pastor of the Putnam United Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Interment will take place in the spring at the family plot of the Westport Cemetery.
