Published: 2/2/04Blanche M. HathawayLAKE PLACID — Blanche M. Hathaway, 89, of Greenwood Street, Lake Placid, and formerly of Jay, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, where she had been a patient since Jan. 26, 2004. She was born on Nov. 5, 1914, in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Joseph and Carolyn "Langlois" Mailhotte. She married her husband, Benjamin Hathaway on Nov. 14, 1933, and spent the majority of her married life raising their children and working with her husband on their farm in Jay. For approximately 10 years she has made her residence in Lake Placid. She enjoyed playing bingo and socializing with the residents. Blanche also enjoyed music and movies. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her siblings, Donald Hathaway of Lexington Park, Md., Joyce Thompson of Pikeville, Tenn., Judy Nugent of West Melbourne, Fla., and Gene Hathaway of Lake Placid; a sister-in-law, Belle Kozak of Schenectady; several nieces and nephews. Those that predeceased her include her husband, Benjamin Hathaway, who died April 13, 1996, and a son, Robert Hathaway who died Dec. 9, 1955; also surviving are nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Philip Allen and the Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiating. Memorials to Blanche may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Raymond F. ValentineWestport, N.Y. and Dorval, Quebec, Canada — Raymond F. Valentine, born Feb. 20, 1925, passed away in his home in Dorval. He is survived by his friend and partner of 16 years, Susan C. Sherman of Westport; sons Yves and his wife Moira Miller, Jean and his wife Wendy McGean and the late Guy; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; his brothers, Vincent, Leo and Roland; and his sister Joy. The visitation will take place at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux (514-685-3344) on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the service in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Philips Neri Cemetery, Westport, N.Y., in the spring. |
