Published: 12/26/03Jessie L. EstesKEENE VALLEY — Jessie L. Estes, 96, of Horace Nye Home, Elizabethtown and formerly of Keene Valley, died Wednesday, Dec. 24. She was born Aug. 21, 1907 in Avon, N.Y., the daughter of George and Mary (Tanner) Cook. After graduating from the University of Rochester, she married Halsey P. Estes and settled in Keene Valley. She was an extraordinary cook, an avid gardener and a long-time member of the Keene Valley Garden Club. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Dick Hall of Keene Valley; six grandchildren, Richard Hall, Ronald Hall, Carol Reed and Beth Johnson, all of Keene Valley, and Margo Cooney of Deland, Fla. and Duane Estes of Crown Point; several great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Halsey Estes; one son, Arthur Estes; a brother, James Cook; a sister, Dorothy Landers, and a grandson, Darrell Estes. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29 in Norton Cemetery in Keene. Donations in her memory may be made to the Keene Valley Fire Department, Keene Valley, NY, 12943. W.M.Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of the arrangements. Clyde Alton LaRocqueSan Diego, Calif. — Clyde Alton LaRocque of San Diego, Calif., died Dec. 20, 2003, in Bay St. Louis Hospital, Miss., of a heart attack. Clyde was born Oct. 22, 1948, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was the son of Joseph Bernard and Marjorie Alice (Collins) LaRocque. Clyde lived more than 50 years in San Diego County and just recently moved to Bay St. Louis to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Clyde was a U.S. Army veteran serving honorably from December 1965 to September 1969. Clyde was a member of the Catholic faith, an ardent Republican, a member of Moose Lodge 1731, El Cajon, Calif., a doting grandfather and a happy fisherman. Clyde is survived by three daughters, Angela Farthing of Waveland, Miss., Jennifer Kirkland of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Carolyn Prendergast of Waveland, Miss.; a son, Stephen LaRocque of Kiln, Miss.; and seven grandchildren, soon to be nine. Clyde is also survived by his brothers, Glenn LaRocque of Pine Valley, Calif., and Bernard LaRocque of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Rosemary Percent of Sciota, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clyde is also survived by his Aunt Catherine Collins of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and numerous well loved upstate New York cousins. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Fahey Funeral Home, Bay St. Louis, Miss. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. Clyde’s ashes will be interred in San Diego, Calif. CATHERINE M. COVEL, 84, of Pleasant Street, Peru died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home. CATHERINE PELKEY PECK, 72, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, with her family at her side at Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, where she had been a patient since Dec. 16. She was born in Wilmington Sept. 27, 1931, the daughter of Kenneth and Jennie (Denton) Pelkey. There will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time. Graveside services will be held at Haselton Cemetery, Wilmington, at the convenience of the family. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks is in charge of arrangements. |
