Richard T. Rendle

Peasleeville — Richard T. Rendle, 67, of the Strackville Road, Peru, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Glen Ridge, N.J., July 19, 1936, the son of Harold A. and Mabel (Brown) Rendle.

He was a graduate of the New York Military Academy and attended North Carolina State and Canton ATC.

Mr. Rendle was Park Superintendent for various state parks throughout New York. He participated in the development of Valcour Island and AuSable Point Campground.

He enjoyed model airplanes, heavy equipment, traveling, the ocean and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Marie (Welch) Rendle of Peasleeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Terri Rendle of Peasleeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Karl Martin of Tamaqua, Penn.; a granddaughter, Marcie Lynn Rendle; and one sister, Joan Rendle of Vineland, N.J.

He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, David, Nov. 23, 2003.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the First Assembly of God in Plattsburgh with pastor Michael San Soucie, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the New Life Christian Academy, Prospect Avenue, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

Rose Pearl Waring

Keeseville — Rose Pearl Waring, 77, of the Port Douglas Road, Keeseville, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, where she has resided since May of 2002.

She was born in Neversink, N.Y., Sept. 5, 1926, the daughter of Arlie J. and Eva Sutherland.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, flowers, music and dancing.

Survivors include her loving and devoted companion, Walter "Jim" Hubble of Lansing, Mich., with whom she resided in North Palm Beach, Fla., for 23 years; two daughters and one son-in-law, Constance and Richard Thomas Jr. of Keeseville and Victoria Waring of Mount Ida, Ark.; one son, David Waring of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Warren Odell of Oneonta; a granddaughter and fiancé, Erin DeLacy and Kenneth Eckhardt of AuSable Forks; grandson and fiancé, Brian DeLacy and Amber Smart of AuSable Forks; a stepgrandson and fiancé, Richard Thomas III and Jessica Howerton of Keeseville; a stepgranddaughter, Leeann Thomas, currently serving aboard the USS John F. Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 101 Broad Street, Sibley Hall, Suite 227, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Arland Frederick Tobin

Ticonderoga — Arland Frederick Tobin, 84, of Wicker Street, Ticonderoga, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at the Moses Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

He was born in Ticonderoga, Jan. 10, 1919, the son of the late John W. and Bess (Drake) Tobin.

Mr. Tobin was a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga. He was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School, class of 1938. He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga for 37 years and was a member of the company's Quarter Century Club.

Mr. Tobin was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary S. (Scott) Tobin; two sons, John Tobin and his wife Christine of Ticonderoga and Frederick R. Tobin of Lake Worth, Fla.; and two daughters, Lynda M. Tobin of Summerville, S.C., and Barbara J. Martin and her husband Dino of Jamesville. He is also survived by many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin Street, Ticonderoga.

A funeral service will take place Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Paul L. Dufford Jr., pastor, will officiate. Interment will take place at the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga in the spring.

Paul Sprague

Moriah, NY — Paul (Barney) Sprague, 89, of Moriah, N.Y., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003.

He was born Sept. 22, 1914, to Charles and Nellie (Phinney) Sprague.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman and a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre in the U.S. Army Infantry. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the National Riffle Association.

Paul was a caretaker for St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Moriah Center for many years.

Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Louise (Whitford) Sprague; four sons, Timothy and Catherine Sprague of Port Henry, Randall and Elizabeth Sprague of Sussex, N.J., Tracy and Alberta Sprague of Mineville and Howard Sprague of Moriah; he is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Leon, Lloyd, Gordon and Vernon (Peck); and four sisters, Flora, Gertrude, Marjorie and Kathleen.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, 11 a.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry.

Donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.

Peter A. Hopkins Jr.

Lake Placid — Peter A. Hopkins Jr., 85, of Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at his home.

A native of Syracuse, Mr. Hopkins was an attorney practicing in Lake Placid until last month when he became ill and was previously associated for many year Eagan Real Estate in Syracuse.

He was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and Syracuse University College of Law.

Mr. Hopkins was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, where he served is lector.

He was a member of Kiwanis, a volunteer Literacy Advocate and managed the local Assigned Council program. He provided many hours of pro-bono representation for clients who could not afford an attorney.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Hopkins was a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps who piloted 50 B-24 bombing missions over Europe and received Distinguished Flying Cross for valor after a ferocious air attack , having flown his heavily damaged aircraft and his crew to safety.

Mr. Hopkins was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Carolyn Aurel Hopkins, a founder of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra in 1996.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Errol Barrett of Jamaica; a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Liana Hopkins of White Plains; five grandchildren, Sean Capps of San Diego, Calif., Brooke Capps of Now York City, Brian and Siobhan Hopkins of White Plains and Allison Thompson of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Joseph T. Hopkins of Niskayuna and St. Augustine, Fla.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Dr. Charles Elliot of FayettevIlle, Adelaide and Robert Ealy of Webster, Mary Martha and Richard Hanlon of Syracuse and Mary Millicent and Robert Hastings of East Syracuse and Naples, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his grandson, Larkin Capps; his parents, P. Augustus and Florence Tormey Hopkins; a brother, Christopher J. Hopkins; and three sisters, Patricia Hopkins Moran, Genevieve Hopkins Bardenett and Rosalind Hopkins Pristash.

A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Calling hours will be at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid, Friday, Dec. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Pauline D. Wilkins, 84, of Wildwood Drive, Lake Placid, N.Y., died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the Uihleln Mercy Center where she had been a resident since February 2002.

She was born in Peasleville, N.Y., May 19, 1919, the daughter of Frank and Ann (Hebert) Durgan.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. Funeral services will be at the funeral home, pastor Alfred Trembley will officiate. Burial will be in North Elba Cemetery in the spring.

Cecilia Lemieux Hindsley, 74, of Tucson, Ariz., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz.

Cecilia was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Aug. 28, 1929, the daughter of Wilfred and Nellie (Trudeau) Lemieux.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003. Arrangements are with the Heather Mortuary, 1040 North Columbus Boulavard, Tucson, AZ 85711.
