Published: 12/20/03Judy Marie SousisAuSable Forks — Judy Marie (Passino) Sousis, 62, of Grove Street, after her long courageous battle with ovarian cancer, went peacefully to be with her Lord surrounded by her family on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at her home. Judy was born in Keeseville on Sept. 27, 1941, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Urban) Passino. Judy married Jeddy Sousis Sr. on June 21, 1960, in Keeseville. Judy and Jed were able to renew their vows in 2000. Judy was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked at various jobs and retired after 14 years at the Golden Arrow, Lake Placid, due to her illness. In the last years of her life, Judy made it a point to spend a lot of time with her family. She showed pure strength during her illness and never once lost her spunk. Judy left this world with a smile on her face. Judy is survived by her six children, Phillip and Robin Sousis of Troy, Shawn Sousis of Troy, Chester Sousis and companion Cheri Goodman, Cindy and Sean Murphy and Darcie and James Shofner, J.J. Sousis Jr. and Bethany Sousis, all of AuSable Forks; 11 grandchildren, Phillip Jr., Kristine, Jami, K.C., Seantelle, Dylan, Myranda, Sasha, Odin, Nicholas, Paige and Shasta; three stepgrandchildren, Tommy, Tyler and Trista; five great - grandchildren, Dakota, Blaize, Xavier, Leilah and Mylea; two sisters, Ruth Busha of Keeseville and Rita Lashway of Peru; three sisters-in-law and their families, Shubbey Reynolds of Reber, Florence Crowningshield of Lewis and Rosemary Byrnes of Connecticut; two brothers-in-law, David and Joe and his wife Alice Sousis of Lewis; and several nieces, nephews and special friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chet and Alzada Pulsifer; two brothers, Rufus and James Passino; sister Monica Munssen; and brother-in-law, Butch Sousis. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Virginia Pierce officiating. Donations in her name may be made to the High Peaks Hospice, Mineville, or AuSable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Service. Douglas A. RiceBIRMINGHAM, ALA. — Douglas A. Rice, 62, of Memphis, Tenn., passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He was born Feb. 27, 1941, in Ashland, Ky., the son of Douglas and Georginna Rice. Douglas was a loving and caring father who took on more responsibilities than just his own by bringing up his own children as well as stepchildren and adopted children. He was a truck driver for 40 years and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Champlain. His parents; and one son, Keith Rice, predecease him. Survivors include his wife, Carol (Bulriss) Rice of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Tom Hemingway of Memphis, Tim Hemingway and his wife Stephanie of Memphis and Wayne Rice of Florida; two daughters, Tracey Hemingway of Memphis and Karen Rice of Florida; his stepmother, Mary Rice of Michigan; a brother, Fred Rice of Alabama; a sister, Robin Rice of Michigan; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mooers Methodist Church. Donald J. AbareMooers Forks — Donald J. Abare, 72, of Mooers Forks, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. He was born in Saranac Lake on June 9, 1931, the son of Earl J. and Verda Elizabeth (Breyette) Abare. He served in the U.S. Air Force for seven years during the Korean Conflict and was a decorated veteran, having received two Purple Hearts. He was employed in the aerospace industry for over 33 years in both the private and military sectors. He retired as an advisor from Lockheed Aircraft International Advisory Group in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Mason Lodge 31 in Peoria, Ariz., and was also a Shriner and a member of the York and Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Brunelle) Abare, whom he married Oct. 13, 1950; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Robin (Brunelle) Abare of West Chazy, Jeffrey Abare of Phoenix, Ariz., and Douglas and Patricia Abare of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beirget and Robert Domingue of Sebastien, Fla., Pamela and George Poetzl of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Sheri Leah and Douglas Misener of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister and brother-in-law, Beirget and Thomas Long of Cave Creek, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His parents died before him. Calling hours and services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy M. BrothersWEST CHAZY — Dorothy M. Brothers, 90, of the Stratton Hill Road, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Stafford, Vt., on Sept. 28, 1913, the daughter of LeRoy and Mabel (Barns) Woodward. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 767. Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Orville and Shirley Brothers of Plattsburgh, Lawrence and Shirley Brothers of West Chazy, Marshall and Carolyn Brothers of Peru, Russell and Brenda Brothers of Keeseville and Donald Brothers and his companion Jean Sears of North Carolina; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Pauline and Douglas Miller of Plattsburgh, Pat and Maynard Lashway of Altona, Lillian Delisle of Plattsburgh and Lucille Stratton of Mooers; one brother, Calvin Woodward of Plattsburgh; one sister-in-law, Mildred Boyd of Peru; 40 grandchildren; 91 great - grandchildren; five great - great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard Brothers; her parents, LeRoy and Mabel Woodward; a daughter, Dorothy Reilly; two grandsons, Michael Brothers and Kenny Delisle; two brothers, Everest and Bobby Brothers; two sisters, Gladys Joyce and Verenetta Provost; two sons-in-law, John Delisle and Herbert Stratton; and one daughter-in-law, Sandy Brothers. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Burial will be in Ingraham Cemetery in the spring. Dorothy M. Liberty, 82, formerly of Truman Avenue, Plattsburgh, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Wesley Garden Nursing Home, Rochester. She was born on April 13, 1921, in Chazy Lake, N.Y., the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Minnie) Smart. Calling hours will be held Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in the spring.
