Ethel Louise Gates

Castleton, Vt /Plattsburgh, NY — Ethel L. Gates, formally of Castleton, Vt., passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the Clinton County Nursing Home.

She was born in Coopersville, N.Y., on June 27, 1909, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Newton) Stacey.

For many years she worked in health care.

She is survived by three sons, Nelson Dickerson of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lloyd Dickerson of Tennessee and Ralph Dickerson; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; three husbands, Ralph Dickerson, Maynard Martin and Clarence Gates; two daughters, Lila Dickerson and Joyce Grant; a daughter-in-law, Frieda Dickerson; four brothers, Ernest, Clarence, Donald and Lawrence Stacey; and a sister, Ruth Kinney.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven, Vt. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Castleton, Vt.

John A. Giles

Seffner, Fla. — John A. Giles, 72, retired U.S. Air Force of Seffner, Fla., passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003.

Mr. Giles was born June 18, 1931, in Troy, N.Y., the son of George and Rosemary (Shea) Giles.

He was a disabled veteran, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Champlain, N.Y., and a member of the Disabled Veterans.

He is survived by Germaine Boire, his wife of 45 years; his sons, John F. Giles of Seffner and George A. Giles of Plano, Texas; a daughter, Janet Giles of Seffner; his sister, Florence Giles of Cohoes, N.Y.; and many other family members also survive him.

Visitation was held Monday at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon, Fla. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Seffner, Fla.

Eli Brown

Melbourne, Fla. — Eli (Brownie) Brown, 71, of Melbourne, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003.

He was born in Chazy, N.Y., the son of Eli A. Brown and Fanny F. Jarvis.

He is survived by his children; three daughters, Susan M. and David Garrant of Fla., Sherry A. and Rick Ellingson of Florida and Cindy A. Brown of Port Henry; two sons, Randy E. and Christine Brown of Plattsburgh and the late Stephen J. Brown of Plattsburgh. He has four sister's, Ann LaPier, Theresa Ogg, Rita Cable and the late Myrtle LaPier; and one brother, the late Anthony Brown. He also has 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Brownie served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1949 to 1952 were he received several medal's including the Bronz Star. He was honorably discharged in 1952.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Kissimmee, Fla., and the American Legion (VFW) of Plattsburgh, N.Y.

He will be greatly missed by all his family and friend's.

Services will be private.

Myrtle F. Boyea

NORFOLK, VA. — Myrtle F. Boyea, 87, formerly of Ellenburg, died Dec. 13, 2003, in Norfolk, Va.

She was born in Constable, N.Y., on April 20, 1916, the daughter of Willard and Carrie (Thomas) Badore.

Mrs. Boyea was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Raymond Boyea; and her son, Kenneth.

She is survived by her daughter, Stella and son-in-law, Dale McPherson of Chesapeake, Va., and their two children; her son, Richard Blanchard and Patty VanValkenburg of Plattsburgh; daughter-in- law, Elaine Lagree of Mooers Forks and her four children; and several great- grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister, Elsie Johnson; and brother, Herbert Badore of Malone; sisters-in-law, Rita Badore of Tupper Lake, Marjorie Harrigan, Evelyn Bonville and Bernice Collins of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Boyea was devoted to her family, neighbors and friends and her faith.

Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Home in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Janice Evelyn Drew

Plattsburgh — Janice Evelyn Drew, 65, of Sunrise Drive, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at her home.

She was born in Willsboro on Dec. 14, 1938, daughter of the late Clarence and Bernice (VanOrnam) Wade.

Janice was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Althea and Paul Duval of Beekmantown and Lisa Cooney of Beekmantown; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Eric and Elaine Drew of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Thad and June Drew of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Joe and Denise Goddeau of Cadyville and Elton and Joyce Barton of Willsboro; one brother, Edward Wade of Peru; six grandchildren, Tracey Duval, Nicole Duval, Natasha Trombley, Brianna Cooney, Cassidy Drew and Eric Drew Jr.; one great-grandson, Jordan Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.

J. Howard Wright

Port Clinton, Ohio — J. Howard Wright, 87, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at H.B. Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton.

He was born April 29, 1916, in Peru, N.Y., the son of the late William and Marguerite (Morse) Wright.

He graduated from Plattsburgh High School, Plattsburgh, N.Y., and attended Clarkson College of Technology, Potsdam, N.Y., majoring in chemical engineering. His working career was in the pulp and paper industry as a sales, research and development engineer.

He was a 50 year member of the International Association of Lion's Clubs, a 50 year member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and was an active member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include daughter, C. Susan Mahr of Port Clinton; grandson, Cary (Paula) Mahr of Bayview, Ohio; five great-grand-children; sister Pauline (James) Gildersleeve of Mattituck, N.Y.; brothers, Roger Wright, Richard (Barbara) Wright both of Peru, N.Y., and Theodore Wright of Spartanburg, S.C.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine (Davis); second wife, Georgina (Craigmile); grandson, Scott A. Mahr; and brothers, Lloyd, Kenneth and Robert Wright.

Private graveside services will he held at Catawba Island Cemetery, Port Clinton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army and the church or charity of the donor's choice.

Neidecker-LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452 is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Webster, 62, of Mooers, N.Y., died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete with the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers.

Helen E. Wallace, 92, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility.

She was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., on March 23, 1911, the daughter of Theodore and Lena (Watier) Gokey.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in the spring in Riverside Cemetery.
