Published: 12/15/03Helen E. WallacePLATTSBURGH — Helen "Honey" E. Wallace, 92, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. She was born in Ogdensburg on March 23, 1911, the daughter of Theodore and Lena (Watier) Gokey. Honey graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1930. She then attended the Physicians Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1933. Following her graduation, Honey became a registered nurse with the Physicians Hospital and later the CVPH Medical Center, retiring in 1970. She married Bernard F. "Jack" Wallace on May 17, 1939, in the Plattsburgh Trinity Church. Jack died on Dec. 24, 1993. Honey was a member of the AARP and the Physicians Hospital School of Nursing Alumni. Survivors include two sons, Robert D. Wallace and his wife, Jacqueline, of Mansfield, Ontario, Canada, and Lt. Col. John W. Wallace and his wife, Sharon, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren, Michael Wallace and Melinda McAndrews; two great-grandchildren; and a very close and special friend, Helen Thompson. She was predeceased by one sister, Beatrice Curran. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in the spring in Riverside Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church. Lawrence Joseph Young Sr.CROWN POINT — Lawrence Joseph Young Sr., 80, of Crown Point, died Dec. 13, 2003 at home under the care of Hospice. He was born April 3, 1923, the son of William and Alma (Ashbaugh) Young. For many years he ran an auto-body business at his home in Crown Point. He later owned with his first wife, Mary, a local restaurant and was a long-time justice in the town. From 1971 until his retirement in 1984 he taught auto body at the Moriah BOCES. In retirement, he remained active in the local food pantry and took care of the many needs of the Sacred Heart parish and cemetery. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart and a member of the American Legion. Lawrence served in the army during World War II in Italy. In 1947 he married Mary Colliano and spent most of their married life in Crown Point. She died in January 1984. He later married Sophia Mackay. In addition to Sophia, he is survived by one son, Lawrence Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Russell, and a daughter, Anne Marie, and her husband, Samuel Kelson, of Bennington, Vt. and two stepchildren, Sandra Spacher of Rochester and Stephen Mackay of Crown Point. One stepchild, Christina Mackay, predeceased him. He is also survived by two sisters, Bonnie Music of South Glens Falls, and Jean Versocki of Schenectady, and a brother, William, of Round Lake. Two brothers, Frank and Edward, predeceased him. He also has 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service and Mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Crown Point at noon on Saturday, Dec. 20. The family encourages donations to the charity of one’s choice. |
