Published: 12/14/03Dorothy A. BoothNew Rochelle, N.Y. — Beloved wife and mother, Dorothy (May) A. Booth was born in Niantic, Conn., on April 14, 1917, to Don Juan and Minnie S. Andress. She married John H. Booth on Dec. 27, 1934. Shortly after, they moved to New York and in 1955, settled in New Rochelle. She died Monday, Dec. 9th from complications of a stroke. Dorothy enjoyed vacationing in the Adirondacks. She was also a loving mother whose favorite saying was that it took her 32 years to raise two 16-year-olds. Mom was an artist in the kitchen and the sewing room along with a willing chauffeur and playmate. In addition to her husband of almost 69 years, she is survived by her son Jay (John H. Jr.) and his wife of 35 years, Cathy (Catherine) of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and her daughter Deborah A. and granddaughter Dorothy of Plattsburgh, N.Y. Because she so valued education and worked so hard in women's organizations, a fund in her name will be established at Clinton Community College, 136 Clinton Point Dr., Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Contributions to the Dorothy A. Booth Fund may be sent to the college. Arthur J. JardinePLATTSBURGH — Arthur J. Jardine, 67, of the Irish Settlement Road, Plattsburgh, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in West Swanzey, N.H., on July 29, 1936, the son of Victor and Mary (Rixford) Jardine. Arthur married Kikuko Endo on Nov. 26, 1958, in Tokyo, Japan. He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years. Arthur and his family moved to the Plattsburgh area in 1974 where he worked as a captain for the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base Fire Department, retiring after 25 years of service in 1987. Mr. Jardine volunteered as a driver for "Meals on Wheels" and was dedicated to his senior citizen friends. He enjoyed traveling, sports and being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Kikuko Jardine of Plattsburgh; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Jardine of Peru; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Charles Culley of Montclair, N.J.; two sisters and one brother, Gladys and her husband Francis Blair of Keene, N.H., John and his wife Charlotte Jardine of West Swanzey, N.H., and Lena and her husband David Whipple of West Swanzey, N.H.; and five grandchildren. There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Church of the Nazarene in Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the James A. FitzPatrick Cancer Center or Hospice of the North Country. Viola C. MacDougalWillsboro — Viola C. MacDougal, 89, formerly of Willsboro, N.Y., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y. She was born in Willsboro on Nov. 25, 1914, the daughter of Samuel and Susan (Mero) Marcotte. She was a member of St. Philip's Church, a former member of Court St. Joan of Arc 867, the Altar Rosary and the Willsboro Senior Citizens. For many years she worked as a cook at the Whallonsburg Home. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Ronald and Pam MacDougal of Poland, Maine, Dianne and Patrick Garvey of Lewis, N.Y., and Wesley and Wanda MacDougal of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Valerie and Paul Ravin, Donna Holtzlander, Ronald A. and Judy MacDougal, David MacDougal, Sarah MacDougal, Eric Garvey, Aaron Garvey and Timothy and Tracy Garvey; ten great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Camille and Alicia MacDougal, Olivia Garvey, Nicole and Alexandra Holtzlander, Jamie Park, Josh Ravin and Chelsea and Juliette MacDougal; and two great - great-grandchildren, Dillon and Trista MacDougal; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; 11 brothers and sisters; and her husband Earl, who died in March 1970. Calling hours will be at St. Philip’s Church on Tuesday, Dec. 16th, from 9 to 10 a.m. with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring. GonyoPlattsburgh — Barry C. Gonyo, 51, of Plattsburgh, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, in his home on the Calkins Road. Barry was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ayotte of Cooper Drive. He was a larger than life, caring man, who was highly devoted to his animals, his friends and his family. For 30 years he worked as a highly respected and accomplished contractor who built many homes and businesses in the community. Barry loved animals and has cared for hundreds of animals, including cats, dogs, chinchillas, rabbits, turkeys, ducks and geese. Many of these were rescues or unwanted animals who luckily found their way to his farm. Barry had a particular devotion to horses which he raised for 30 years. Barry was a generous spirit, good hearted, friend to many in the community, both young and old. He was kind hearted and had an ever present smile. Barry will be missed by his many friends and family. Barry is survived by his wife Bea of Plattsburgh; his daughter Carla Jean Gonyo of Syracuse; his brother Larry Gonyo of Queensbury; Martin Holzer, who lived with Barry for many years and whom Barry looked upon as a son; and his many animals whom he cared for as if they were his children. Barry was an annual supporter of the North Country Traumatic Brain Injury Center by sponsoring various fund-raisers and welcoming participants to the farm. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Donations in his memory may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society in his memory. Lawrence (Larry) Young Sr., 80, of Main Street, Crown Point, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at his home. He was born on April 3, 1923, at Crown Point, the son of William J. and Alma (Ashbough) Young. At his request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at noon at the Sacred Heart Church, Crown Point. A full obituary will be run in the Monday edition of the Press-Republican. Christopher David Arnold, infant son of Charles Arnold and Amie Lynn Denton of Chateaugay, N.Y., died Dec. 12, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center. A memorial service and burial will be held in Memorial Cemetery, Lake Shore Road, Willsboro, at a date to be announced in the spring. Huestis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Helen "Honey" E. Wallace, 92, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. She was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., on March 23, 1911, the daughter of Theodore and Lena (Watier) Gokey. Arrangements are incomplete at this time with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Myrtle F. Boyea, 87, formerly of Ellenburg, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the Autumn Care Nursing Home in Norfork, Va. Arrangements are incomplete at this time with the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. |
