Gerald H. Girard

Plattsburgh — Gerald H. Girard, 73, of Cedar Street, Plattsburgh, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Rouses Point on Oct. 6, 1930, son of George and Monica (Brennan) Girard.

Gerald was a 1948 graduate of Mount Assumption Institute, he served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952, he had been employed by Plattsburgh Air Force as an electrical supervisor from June 1968 to July of 1994 when he retired.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 1619 in West Plattsburgh, a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh and was an avid computer expert.

Gerald is survived by Patricia (LaJoy) Girard of Plattsburgh; sons, Wayne and companion Helen Wood of Plattsburgh, Gary and Teresa Girard of Deleon Springs, Fla., and James and Melody Girard of Plattsburgh; daughter, Cindy and Grayam Scheel of Deland, Fla.; a brother, Carl and Dianne Girard of Morrisonville; sisters, Carol and William Brown of Plattsburgh and Lynda Kaner and John of Alaska; four grandchildren, Kevin and Justin Scheel and Katie and Zachary Girard; and several nieces and nephews.

Gerald was predeceased by a brother, Richard Girard who was killed during World War II.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Reamer officiating. Burial will be later next year in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Rev. Robert C. Finley

Ellenburg Depot — Reverend Robert C. Finley, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in Brooksville, Fla.

He was born in Ogdensburg on Jan. 23, 1926, the son of Earl and Irene (Durham) Finley.

He was a minister in the Wesleyan Church for many years and served at several churches including the Ellenburg Depot Wesleyan Church, Bakers Mills Wesleyan Church and the Elizabeth Street Wesleyan Church in Plattsburgh.

He is survived by his wife, Anna M. Finley; his children and their spouses, Sharon and Arthur Gilman of Ellenburg Depot, Richard and Nancy Finley of Plattsburgh, Kevin and Julie Finley of Ellenburg Depot and Judy and Tim Smith of Ellenburg Depot; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Eva and Donald McDonald of Lisbon, Doris Johnston of Ogdensburg, Viola and Fern Gibson of DeKalb Junction and Ella Finley of Ogdensburg; two brothers, Gerald Finley of Syracuse and Maynard Finley of Ogdensburg; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Finley of Plattsburgh; his step daughters and husbands, Patricia Lamos and John Sweeney, Bonnie Mahoney, Rhonda and Allen Beaudoin, Debra and Michael Maloney and Sheryl and Stan Grochmal; 11 grandchildren; his stepgrandchildren, Joshua Lamos Sweeney, Molly and Megan Mahoney, Jamie and Sean Beaudoin, Christopher and wife Jamie Maloney and Lorin Pepper; nine great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Kaleb Beaudoin.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jewel Finley; his parents, Earl and Irene Finley; two brothers, Claude and Elton Finley; a sister, Dorothy Finley; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gerald (Katherine) Finley; a brother-in-law, Doren Johnston; and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Finley.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Heuvelton Wesleyan Church with Reverend Paul Dettmer officiating. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wesleyan Bible Camp or the Waterford Wesleyan Church.

The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Ross Scozzafava

So. Wellfleet, Mass. / Port Henry, NY — Frank Ross Scozzafava, 52, passed away at his home in South Wellfleet, Mass., on Dec. 6, 2003, with his family at his side. The cause was pancreatic cancer.

Frank was born in Elizabethtown, N.Y., on Aug. 8, 1951.

He graduated from Moriah Central School, Port Henry, N.Y., in 1969, and was a Poetry Fellow of the Fine Arts Work Center from 1972 to 1974.

He established and managed a design company, Cape Cod Interiors of Orleans, with his wife Meredith from 1986 to the present.

Frank was an avid fitness enthusiast who enjoyed weight training and long bicycle rides and walks through the Cape Cod National Seashore.

He is survived by his wife, Meredith Blakeley Scozzafava; two daughters, Olivia June Scozzafava of Wellfleet and Rosemary Ellen Scozzafava of New York City; his father, Francis (Frank) J. Scozzafava of Port Henry, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Pilger of Alexandria, Va.; his brothers, Mark and Tom Scozzafava of Port Henry and Joseph Scozzafava of Springfield, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church of Wellfleet on Friday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be conducted in Port Henry at a date to be announced.

Deborah M. Harvey

CHAZY — Deborah M. Harvey, 46, of Trombly Lane, Chazy, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 27, 1957, the daughter of Wilfred and Ethel (Donah) Johnson.

She married Alex J. Harvey at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy in 1974.

Mrs. Harvey was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She graduated from Peru Central High School in 1973 and Our Lady of Victory Secretarial School in 1975. She worked at Diamond International Paper Co., Delegar Corp. and then as a secretary for Olen Harvey & Co. for the past fourteen years.

Survivors include three daughters, Heather Harvey and her companion Shon Worley of Beekmantown, Ashley Harvey and her companion Jason Peryea of Plattsburgh and Kendell Harvey of Chazy; one grandchild, Madison Worley and one expected grandchild, Ethan Charles Johnson Worley.

There will be no public calling hours. A Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Burial will be in Schuyler Falls Cemetery in the spring.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department.

George H. Cookman

ROUSES POINT — George H. Cookman, 69, of Point au Fer, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

George was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Fredericksburg, Va., the son of George and Ann (Wright) Cookman.

He retired with an honorable discharge after 20 years of service as a First Class Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy, where he served on various Naval ships and was crewmember on a submarine. He was a member of the Rec Raiders scuba club.

For many years, George was a member and captain of the Rouses Point Rescue Squad, where he served as advanced A.L.S. He was a member and officer of the Rouses Point Fire Department, a past commander of the Clinton County American Legion and Post 767. He taught CPR at local schools and Clinton Community College and served on the Town of Champlain Planning Board.

He was very active in the Special Olympics.

George’s parents, George Sr. and Anne (Wright) Cookman, predeceased him.

He is survived by one brother, Ralph L. Cookman, and his wife, Lillian, of Champlain; one niece, Bonnie Dupee, and her husband, Melvin, of Watertown; one nephew, Duncan Cookman, and his wife, Ruth, of North Carolina; his aunt, Ruth Scales; two great-nieces, one great-nephew and several cousins.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Three Steeples Church in Rouses Point.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Rouses Point Fire Department Rescue Squad.

Eva Mary Goushaw, 92, on Park Street, Tupper Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake, where she had resided sine 1996.

She was born at her Park Street residents Feb. 9, 1911, the daughter of Henry James and Eliza Anastasia (Disotell) Serra.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home, Park Street, Tupper Lake. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will be held in the parish cemetery in May 2004.

Sadie M. Belmore, 85, of Whallonsburg, N.Y., died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown.

Arrangements are by the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro, N.Y.
