George H. Cookman

ROUSES POINT — George H. Cookman, 69, of Point au Fer, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

George was born Nov. 5, 1935, in Fredericksburg, Va., the son of George and Ann (Wright) Cookman.

He retired with an honorable discharge after 20 years of service as a First Class Petty Officer with the U.S. Navy, where he served on various Naval ships and was crewmember on a submarine. He was a member of the Rec Raiders scuba club.

For many years, George was a member and captain of the Rouses Point Rescue Squad, where he served as advanced A.L.S. He was a member and officer of the Rouses Point Fire Department, a past commander of the Clinton County American Legion and Post 767. He taught CPR at local schools and Clinton Community College and served on the Town of Champlain Planning Board.

He was very active in the Special Olympics.

George’s parents, George Sr. and Anne (Wright) Cookman, predeceased him.

He is survived by one brother, Ralph L. Cookman, and his wife, Lillian, of Champlain; one niece, Bonnie Dupee, and her husband, Melvin, of Watertown; one nephew, Duncan Cookman, and his wife, Ruth, of North Carolina; his aunt, Ruth Scales; two great-nieces, one great-nephew and several cousins.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Three Steeples Church in Rouses Point.

William I. Tacy

CHATEAUGAY — William I. Tacy, 87, of Collins Street, Chateaugay, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y. where he had been a patient since Dec. 2, 2003.

Born in Ellenburg, N.Y., on April 2, 1916, he was the son of Wesley and Jennie (Roberts) Tacy.

He was married to Lillian "Lil" Bilow on May 7, 1939, in St. Edmund’s Church, Ellenburg.

Mr. Tacy is survived by his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Sister Madeleine, O.P., of North Dartmouth, Mass; a niece, Donna Tacy, of Plattsburgh; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Jeffrey Tacy, on Oct. 12, 1995; and two brothers, Wesley "Junior" Tacy, on June 24, 1996, and Donald Tacy in infancy.

Mr. Tacy graduated from Chateaugay High School in the Class of 1932 and graduated from the Adirondack School of Commerce in 1935. He served as office manager and secretary for the Chateaugay Co-op from April 8, 1938, until April 8, 1984, when he retired. Mr. Tacy was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Chateaugay. He served on the Ogdensburg Diocese Bishop Financial Committee and the Bishop’s Fund for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Chateaugay, Third Degree, and the Chateaugay Fish and Game Club. He was also a member of the Chateaugay Rotary Club, for which he served as past president and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He served as director of the IDA of Malone and was active with the Red Cross of Malone.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, in St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay, with the Rev. John M. Demo officiating.

Burial will take place in the spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chateaugay.

Donations in his memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Church or the Chateaugay Fire Department.

Family and friends are invited to the Chateaugay American Legion following Mass.

EVA E. BRADY of 28 Rockland St., Malone, N.Y., died Saturday evening, Dec. 6, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, where she had been a patient since Nov. 19.Born in Malone, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth "Bessie" Garvin Brady. Calling hours are Tuesday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery on the Lake Titus Road in Malone in the spring.Donations may be made in her memory to either the Holy Family School Endowment Fund for Catholic Education or to the Malone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc., of Malone.

DEBORAH M. HARVEY, 46, of Trombly Lane, Chazy, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at her home.She was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 27, 1957, the daughter of Wilfred and Ethel (Donah) Johnson.Calling hours and funeral arrangements were incomplete, as of Sunday, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

REV. ROBERT C. FINLEY, 77, died in Brooksville, Fla., Sat. Dec. 6, 2003. Arrangements are incomplete and are being handled by the E. F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot.
