Lawrence J. Schuler

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Lawrence J. Schuler, 73, of Gainesville, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City, Fla.

He was born in Rome, N.Y., Feb. 11, 1930, the son of the late Leo and Nora Schuler.

Lawrence Schuler married the former Shirley M. Hewson Feb. 26, 1960, at St. Peter’s Church, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Mr. Schuler was a resident of Beekmantown before moving to Florida in 1985.

Mr. Schuler was a technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 23 years.

Mr. Schuler enjoyed reading, politics and the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.

He had fond memories of Plattsburgh Air Force Base.

Mr. Schuler was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church, Gainesville, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley M. Schuler of Gainesville, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Douglas Sprague of Norfolk, Va., Kimberly and David Haise of Charlottesville, Va.; two grandchildren, Madison and Sophie Haise of Char-lottesville, Va.; a brother, Winston Schuler of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Helena Brenon of Booneville, N.Y., and Theresa Marcisofky of Rome, N.Y.; his mother-in- law, Catherine M. Hewson of West Chazy; four brothers-in-law and their spouses, Roger Hewson of Alburg, Vt., Ronald and Karen Hewson of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Calvin and Cassandra Hewson and Wayne and Shirley Hewson of West Chazy, N.Y.; four nephews and their spouses, Matthew Hewson of West Chazy, N.Y.; Roger and Christie Hewson of Burlington, Vt., Eric and Nicole Hewson of Monroe, N.Y.; Brad and Amy Hewson of Morrisonville, N.Y.; one great-nephew, Denver Hewson; one great-niece, Miranda Hewson, both of Burlington, Vt.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Faith Catholic Church, Gainesville, Fla. Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla., with full military honors.

Patrick Allen Boswell

Peru — Patrick Allen Boswell, 85, of the Calkins Road, Peru, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Peru, Dec. 14, 1917, the son of John and Alice (Allen) Boswell.

Pat was employed at the Peru Central School as a bus driver.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Peru.

He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, cutting wood and helping his friends.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married Aug. 17, 1943, at St. Augustine’s Church, Ruth Margaret (Irwin) Boswell, of Peru; one brother, Raphael "Ray" Boswell of Peru; two sisters, Phyllis McCormick and Helen Jarvis, both of Peru; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Harrison Boswell.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Peru with Rev. Gilbert Menard, retired, celebrating. Committal prayers will follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Peru.

Donations in his memory may be made to the church of one’s choice.

Arrangements are being handled by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

Jerryal Martin

Plattsburgh — Jerryal Martin, 71, of Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Keeseville, July 5, 1932, the daughter of the late Jerry and Elizabeth (Hart) Martin. Following the death of her mother, she was raised by the late Francis and Margaret Hart.

Jerryal was retired from Anchor Glass Containers in Norwich, Connecticut following many years of service.

She enjoyed playing bingo and crafts.

Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Sherman and Ethel Martin of Schuyler Falls and Francis and Katherine Hart of Connecticut; two uncles, Augustine and Mary Hart of Keeseville and Richard Hart of Keeseville; and several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Reno; and one infant sister.

Calling hours will be held Saturday from 10 to 12 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at St. John’s Church in Keeseville with Rev. Phillip Allen, pastor of the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks and St. Matthew’s Church in Black Brook, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in St. Matthews Cemetery in Black Brook.

Donations in her memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center or Masses.

Russell A. Haley Jr.

DANNEMORA — Russell A. Haley Jr., 54, of Gregory Street, Dannemora, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Plattsburgh on June 6, 1949, the son of Russell and Lucille (Kennedy) Haley Sr.

Rusty was a Korean veteran.

He was a correction officer at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora for 25 years, retiring in November 2001. He was a member of the Dannemora Rod and Gun Club, NYSCOBA, Sorrell-Woodward Post 1623 in Lyon Mountain, Kushequa Hunting Club, life member of the DAV, life member VFW and NRA. Rusty enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading a good book.

He married the former Marjorie Drollette on Dec. 27, 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Haley of Dannemora; his mother, Lucille Haley of Dannemora; four brothers, James Haley of Saranac, Thomas Haley of Dannemora, Timothy Haley of Saranac, and Philip Haley of Dannemora; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Russell Haley Sr. in 1993.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring.

Donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Building Fund or the Hospice of the North Country.

Katherine F. Lavigne

STAUNTON, VA. — Katherine Frances (Griffin) LaVigne, 89, widow of John M. Lavigne, of Baldwin Park, Staunton, Va., died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1914, in North Walpole, N.H., a daughter of the late Frederick W. and Elizabeth (Hankard) Griffin.

Prior to retirement, Mrs. Lavigne had been a private duty registered nurse for 40 years. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Paul A. and Mary K. Lavigne of Staunton; a grandson, Kirk White and his wife Missy of Roanoke; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor White of Roanoke; close friends, Gloria Potter of Albany, N.Y., Pat and Paul Cote of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Kay Sullivan of Nashua, N.H., Mary Jane and Claude Donna of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; nieces and nephews; and her many friends of Baldwin Park, where she had been residing for the past seven years.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, in Henry Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Father John A. Abe.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at the funeral home.
