Published: 11/16/03Maynard J. AmellMORRISONVILLE — Maynard J. Amell, 82, of Vaughn Road, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Riverview, N.Y., on June 6, 1921, the son of Arthur and Cora (Strack) Amell. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, brother and uncle. Maynard enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a gifted carpenter throughout his life. He was a correction officer for 17 years and retired as a maintenance supervisor in 1983 at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y. He was a member of St. Alexander's Church and the Morrisonville Knight's of Columbus. Maynard was the past commander and member of the American Legion Post 1619. Survivors include his wife, Betty Amell of Morrisonville; four sons, Gary Amell and his partner Alan Roberts of Chazy, Thomas and Patti Amell of Tupper Lake, John Amell of Plattsburgh and David and Marni Amell of Cadyville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Edward DuBray of Cadyville, Susan and Evan Myers of Cadyville and Jill and Terry Lagree of Dannemora; a foster daughter Betty and her husband Norman Baker of Cadyville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Shirley Amell of Cumberland Head, Armand and Betty Amell of Saranac Lake and Arnold and Joan Amell of Scotia; 14 grandchildren, Marcy Amell, Kara DuBray, Nicholas DuBray, Shaun Ellis, Sarah Ellis, Amanda Amell, Kelsie Amell, Kyle Amell, Jessica Myers, Tara Lagree, Joshua Lagree, Jana Lagree, Jori Lagree and Billy Vesneske and his wife Chelynne; one great - grandchild, Jocelynne Vesneske; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Winifred and her husband Stanley Petrashune. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at noon at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center or the Hospice of the North Country. Joan I. JabautTroy, N.Y. — Joan I. Jabaut, 78, passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2003, with family members at her side at the Eddy Heritage House Nursing Center in Troy, N.Y. She was born in Vermontville, N.Y., on Jan. 29, 1925. Joan was a member of the Seventh Day of Adventist Church. Joan lived for a number of years in Chateaugay with her husband Edward, who predeceased her on Dec. 8, 1992. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannine and Darryl Carney of Latham, Nancy and Brent Mulholland of Liverpool and Linda and Joseph Ivanenok of Fulton; two brothers, William Putnam Jr. of Saranac Lake and George Putnam of Rochester; one sister, Florence Davidson of Loon Lake; six grandchildren and two great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Those wishing to honor her memory can do so with a donation to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 29 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144. A memorial service with burial in the Peasleeville Cemetery will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. Michael Wayd PaytonMarietta, Ga. — Michael Wayd Payton, 29, of Marietta, Ga., died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 14, 2003. The son of Edmond D. Payton Jr. and Jane (Webber) Payton, Michael was born July 8, 1974, in Atlanta, Ga. A Marietta resident for all of his life and of the Baptist faith, he worked as a subcontractor for Vinyl Masters of Kennesaw, Ga., for the past 10 years. Survivors include his fiancée, Ann Gayton and her children David and Joey, all of Marietta; his parents of Marietta; his paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Payton of Armuchee, Ga.; his maternal grandmother, Pearl Webber of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Steven and Melissa Payton and Matthew Payton, all of Marietta; three nephews, Zakk, Dustin and Kristian Payton; and several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial will be at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta.
Henry Fortin, 79, of the Tom Miller Road, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the Sidney Hospital in Sidney, N.Y. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Frederica "Johnny" Purdy, 86, of Hillsdale Terrace, Malone, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at her home. She was born in Elmira, N.Y., on Aug. 6, 1916, the daughter of Monsell and Eva (Pierce) Johnson. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with St. Mary-Murphy Funeral, Inc. Chester C. "Chet" Hazen, 88, of Ridgeway Drive, Plattsburgh, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Sharpsville, Pa., on Feb. 8, 1915, the son of Warren R. and Anna (Troutman) Hazen. Calling hours will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
