Dorrance H. "Harry" Derby

PLATTSBURGH — Dorrance H. "Harry" Derby, 86, of Lake Shore Road, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Schuyler Falls on May 14, 1917, the son of Nathan G. and Anna M. (Lyon) Derby.

Dorrance served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 as a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps attached to the 5th Air Force, who were the first radar battalion to go to the South Pacific Theater of World War II.

Mr. Derby married Geneva L. Royal in Plattsburgh on Dec. 12, 1949. He was a farmer for many years and also owner and operator of several businesses, including the Old Lantern Antique Shop and later the Old Lantern Gun Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Derby of Plattsburgh; one son, Donald K. Derby of Plattsburgh; and one daughter, Elaine Sherman and her husband Jim of Plattsburgh.

He was predeceased by one brother, Richard C. Derby, in 1988.

There will be no public calling hours.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Schuyler Falls Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Rifle Association.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Merrill J. Brockway, 79, of Goodman Road, Malone, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

He was born April 4, 1924, in Fort Covington, N.Y., the son of Edward and Lottie (LePage) Brockway.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church with Msgr. Dennis Duprey officiating. Burial will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Adriana Lauzon, 13, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at University Medical Center, Children’s Trauma Unit, of injuries sustained when struck by a car on Oct. 15, 2003.

Adrianna was born July 23, 1990, daughter of Robert C. and Maryann Belanchia (Lauzon).
