Maurice Everest Miserany

Rouses Point, N.Y. — Maurice Everest Miserany, 2 Lakeview Ave., Rouses Point, N.Y., died at his residence on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, after a very long illness.

He was born in Montreal, Quebec, on Oct. 2, 1925, to George and Germaine (Chartrand) Miserany.

Beloved husband of Joyce Allen Lay Miserany; loving father of Ginette (Jeannie) Cook (Leo) of Willowdale, Ontario; dear stepfather to Terrance Lay (Sharron Cimon) of Montreal and Sharon Lay Kennedy (Byron) of Laconia, N.H.; grandfather to Marcia and Adam Cook, Emily, Jason and Liam Kennedy; also survived by sisters Rene Labrie (Roger) and Madeline Gilmore (Paul) of Montreal and Therese St. Jean (Maurice) of St. Jerome, Quebec; and much extended family in Canada and the United States.

A chemist, he retired from Ayerst Laboratories after 42 years of service.

In his earlier years, Maurice was an active sportsman, bowling, playing squash, tennis, hockey, billiards and softball. He coached youth hockey for a time in Rouses Point. Known for his culinary skills, his sense of humor and as a consummate practical joker, he will be missed.

A memorial service, in the presence of his ashes, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm St., Champlain, N.Y. (I-87, Exit 42, east to Rte 9 North, right at Oak Street).

In lieu of flowers, donations to CVPH Medical Center Kidney Dialysis Unit, Plattsburgh, NY 12901 or The National Kidney or Heart Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

Verna (Bonnie) Devins

Saranac, N.Y. — Verna (Bonnie) Devins, 37, of Saranac, N.Y., died Oct. 30, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident. Her loving and devoted husband is Eugene W. Devins Sr. of Saranac, N.Y.

Bonnie was born May 25, 1966, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. She was the daughter of Verna Jane (Frenyea) Demchak and the late Myron Demchak Sr. She attended the Greater Nanticoke Area High School, Luzerne Community College and Clinton Community College, where earned her degree in accounting. She was employed as an officer for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and left to start her career as a New York State correction officer, assigned to Green Haven Correctional Facility.

Bonnie was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law and friend. She gave her heart and soul to her family and friends. She was the person that could always make you laugh, the person you could always lean on. For those who knew her, she has touched their lives in a very special gifted way. Her absence will be felt by all of us. She would want us to smile and hold on to our memories and carry her special love throughout our lives, passing the special gift of life that she has shared with us to our family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Myron Demchak Sr.; an aunt, Linda Tripp; two uncles, Teddy Demchak and Richard Frenyea Sr.; a niece, Megan Demchak; and a nephew, Joseph Lee George.

Also surviving are her mother, Verna Jane (Frenyea) Demchak of Hanover, Pa.; her husband, Eugene W. Devins Sr. of Saranac, N.Y.; three daughters, Melissa Dillon and fiancé Rick Smith of Nanticoke, Pa., Jessica Dillon and fiancé Roland Barber and Amanda Devins, all of Saranac; two sons, James H. Hughes Jr. of Nanticoke and Eugene W. Devins Jr. of Saranac; one grandson, Dillon Smith of Nanticoke, Pa.; seven sisters, Penny (Demchak) and Michael King, Brenda Demchak and Myra (Demchak) and Kerry Nesbitt of Warrior Run, Pa., Maryellen (Demchak) and Thomas Romanowski of West Nanticoke, Kim Demchak and Matt Lacey of Nanticoke, Pa., Bobbiejo and Eric Washick of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Bonniejo Vanderlick and Shawn George of Hanover, Pa.; two brothers, Myron Demchak Jr. and Robert Vanderlick of Hanover, Pa.; mother-in-law Mary Ann Foley of Morrisonville, N.Y.; father-in-law Eugene A. and Beverly Devins of Saranac, N.Y.; sisters-in-law Tina (Devins) and Raymond Purdy of Hudson Falls, N.Y., and Sandra (Devins) and Brad Smart of Morrisonville, N.Y.; brothers-in-law Mark and Brenda Devins of Saranac, N.Y., John and Crystal Devins of Saranac, N.Y., and Robert Foley and Shelley Floreno of Morrisonville, N.Y.; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday, Nov. 1st, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Stegura Funeral Home, 614 South Hanover St., Nanticoke, Pa., 18634 and Monday, Nov. 3rd, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh. N.Y., 12901. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church, 1 Church St., Morrisonville, N.Y.

Donations in her memory may be sent to the family for a trust fund for the children in care of Devins Family, P.O. Box 13, Saranac, NY 12981.
