Annette (LaDuke) Dabrowski

Williamstown, NJ — Annette (LaDuke) Dabrowski of Williamstown, N.J., formerly of Gardiner, N.Y., entered into rest Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at University of Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center, Philadelphia, Pa. She was 36.

The daughter of Chester and Bonnie Supernaw LaDuke, she was born Oct. 6, 1967, in Beacon, N.Y.

Annette graduated from Wallkill High School, Wallkill, N.Y., and Glouchester Community College in New Jersey. She was employed by Delaware Valley Gastroenterology as a multi-skilled technician in Marlton, N.J.

She is survived by her husband, Victor J. Dabrowski Jr. of Williamstown, N.J.; her father and mother, Chester and Bonnie LaDuke of Grahamsville, N.Y.; two sisters, Penny Hennessey and her husband Dick of Grahamsville, N.Y.; Renee’ Simerson and her husband Jeffery of Grahamsville, N.Y.; her maternal grandmother, Pearl Supernaw Gough of Rouses Point, N.Y.; her mother and father-in-law, Victor J. and Ann Dabrowski of Gardiner, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Robin Dabrowski of Montgomery, N.Y.; two brothers-in-law, Christopher and Kevin Dabrowski both of Gardiner, N.Y.; her grandmother-in-law, Stella Dabrowski, of Gardiner, N.Y.; two nieces, Cheyenne and Sierra Hennessey of Grahamsville, N.Y.: one nephew, Chandler Suttle of Grahamsville, N.Y.; and may aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Norton Funeral Home, 1232 S. Black Horse Pike, Williamstown, N.J.; and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 Main Street, Woodbourne, N.Y. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne, N.Y. Father John Lynch will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Route 55, Grahamsville, N.Y.

Barbara J. (Johnson) Forgatch

HANOVER TWP./JAY, NY — Barbara J. (Johnson) Forgatch died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was 56.

Born and raised in Morristown, she had lived in Cedar Knolls for the past 26 years.

Mrs. Forgatch was the chief financial officer of Hy-Tek Window Services, the family business.

She was an avid painter and interior decorator, as well as a talented needlepoint artist. She enjoyed spending weekends crafting at the family home in the Adirondacks and making lasting memories with family and friends.

Her parents, Donald and Margaret Johnson, died previously.

She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Thomas; her beloved children, Timothy T., Amie M. and Bryan T. Forgatch and his wife Judith; her brother, Donald Johnson; her aunt, Joan Sagarese; cousins, Toni Bramhall and Katy Roberts; many other relatives; and many close friends, especially those in "The Glenn" in Jay, N.Y.

Visitation was held Tuesday and Wednesday, at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, South Street and Miller Road, Morristown. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Elinor L. Brown Lowe

Halfmoon, NY — Elinor L. Brown Lowe, 92, of the Schuyler Ridge Residential Health Care Center died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born on May 9, 1911, in Nickleville, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Amelia Cole Baird.

She was a graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone, N.Y.

Mrs. Lowe had lived in the Town of Halfmoon for most of her life, on Farm to Market Road. She resided in Plattsburgh for five years and recently again in Halfmoon.

She was an avid bowler, having played at the Mechanicville Lanes and the Burnt Hills Lanes. Mrs. Lowe enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She had been a longtime member of the Clifton Park United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing with their choir and was a founding member of the Clifton Park Parkettes. She had been an election inspector for the Town of Halfmoon. Mrs. Lowe had worked for the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance in Albany as a keypunch operator from 1958 to 1978.

She was the wife of the late Harold J. Brown and Chark Lowe.

She was the mother of Carol A. VanHousen of Stamford, N.Y., Norman George Brown of Clearwater, Fla., and Allan Thomas Brown of Halfmoon. Her special caregivers where, her daughter-in-law, Marian A. Brown and her granddaughter, Darlene E. Brown.

She was predeceased by two of her sons, Donald L. Brown and Rodney B. Brown; her son-in-law, Donald VanHousen; her daughter-in-law, Lois Brown; and her four brothers, William, Lester, Luther and Robert Baird.

She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 in Clifton Park. Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Clifton Park Village Cemetery.

Janis Kroms

Schenectady — Janis Kroms, 57, of Rotterdam and formerly of Elsmere, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at St. Clare’s Hospital.

Mr. Kroms was born in Lubeck, Germany, on May 16, 1946, the son of the late Alfons and Vilma Dzensteina Kroms.

He immigrated with his parents to Elsmere and graduated from Bethlehem Central High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.

He was employed at Super Steel Schenectady in Scotia at the time of his death.

Janis had three loves in his life, his love for his family, short track auto racing and nature. He enjoyed camping with his wife while they traveled extensively, visiting over 100 different short tracks throughout the country. He enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife, hiking and bird watching and feeding the birds at his home.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Andris Kroms.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Marilyn (Foote) Kroms; a sister, Maija Kroms of North Greenbush; a sister-in-law, Jill Dignard and her husband Ronald of New Jersey, a niece Renee Reimerand her husband Doug and their children Abigail, Lydia and Sarah; a niece Elizabeth Knight and her husband John and their children, Morgan and John David, all of New Jersey; and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Avenue, Delmar. Entombment with full military honors will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send a remembrance in his name to a charity of ones choice.

Jeanne F. Hicks

Peru Jeanne F. Hicks, 86, of Peru, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, under the care of Hospice of the North Country.

She was born in St. Albert, Ontario, June 22, 1917, the daughter of Arthur and Marie (Quennville) Forget(te).

She was a certified school teacher and taught in the province of Ontario prior to her marriage.

She married Norris King Hicks of Ticonderoga and Augusta Center, N.Y., on May 6, 1940 in Ottawa, Ontario. He died May 11, 1982.

Mrs. Hicks was a member of the St. Augustine’s Altar Rosary Society, a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church, and a former member of the Grange.

She enjoyed daily prayers, as well as spending time with friends, family and neighbors, and her hobbies included sewing, canning and baking.

Jeanne was a devoted homemaker. She was a generous woman who made everyone around her feel loved and special. She was a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Raymond A. and Anna Hicks of Greenwood Lake, N.Y., and formerly of California, Frederick J. Hicks of Peru and Gene N. Hicks also of Peru; and friend, Susan Farrell of Lake Placid; one daughter, Martha H. "Mountain Martha" Burns of Peasleeville; two sisters, Agathe Dignard of Casselman, Ontario, and Theresa Dupuis of Moose Creek, Ontario; ten grandchildren, Matthew Hicks, Christopher Hicks MD, Jefferson Hicks, Kathleen H. Rivers, Shanni H. Moore, Kenneth and Corey Hicks, Benjamin Hale and Lindsey and Bobbi Burns; eight loving great-grandchildren; nieces, Rita Forget(te) Gordon of Whitehall, N.Y., and Georgette Forget(te) Denn of Albany; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and. cousins in Vermont, New York, and Canada.

She was also predeceased by two sons, James H. and Michael B. Hicks; and six brothers and ten sisters, including Albert of Putnam Center, N.Y., Marianne, Ulilee, Olivien, Oliver, Rosaire, Bernadette, Regina, Paul, Cecille (Sister Bernard), Bebe Anne, and Father Joseph Forget(te), OMI.

Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the St. Augustine’s School or Hospice of the North Country.

Melvina M. Agnew

MORRISONVILLE — Melvina M. Agnew, 100, of Mason Street, Morrisonville, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Springcove, N.Y., Feb. 22, 1903, the daughter of Peter and Marcelean (Blair) Soulia.

Melvina married Napoleon F. Agnew at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh in 1923. Mr. Agnew died in 1971.

Mrs. Agnew was a member of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Morrisonville Senior Citizens.

Melvina worked in housekeeping at CVPH Medical Center for 10 years. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Polley and Vina’s Snack Bar in Morrisonville from 1959 to 1963.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Agnew Sr. and his wife Jane and Elmer Agnew Sr. and his wife Wanita, all of Morrisonville; two daughters, Elizabeth Carter of Saranac and Mrs. Donald (Alice) Austin of Bendersville, Pa; 24 grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, James Agnew.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Alexander’s Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Morrisonville Rescue Squad.

W. Beardsley Van Etten

PLATTSBURGH — W. Beardsley Van Etten, 75, formerly of Morrisonville, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Corning, N.Y., the son of Doud and Gertrude (Beardsley) Van Etten.

Van served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then attended Champlain College in Plattsburgh for 4 years.

He married F. Elizabeth Shepherd at Methodist Episcopal Church in Malone Dec. 30, 1951.

Van was display manager and classified manager at the Press-Republican for 15 years. Then an owner and the operator of Dimension Cable TV Company for several years. He was the owner and operator of Mr. Breakfast and Donut in the Skyway Shopping Center in Plattsburgh for many years.

Van was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh, past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis International, past president of the New York State Restaurant Association, a member of Clinton Lodge 155, F & A.M., the Scottish Rite and the NERCO Shrine Club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Plattsburgh; two sons, James Doud Van Etten and his wife Rhonda of Altona, N.Y., and Jonathan Scott Van Etten and his wife Christina of Glenmont, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.

One son, Jeffrey Beardsley Van Etten and two daughters, Debra and Ellen Van Etten died earlier.

Calling hours at R.W. Walker Funeral Home were held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services at the Funeral Home Chapel are 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association.

Dorothy R. George, 91, formerly of Willsboro, N.Y., died at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003.

She was born in New York City, Jan. 12, 1912, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Naughton) George.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Huestis Funeral Home, Maple Street, Willsboro. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 10 a.m. Monday Nov. 3, 2003. Reverend James Delbel will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro.

Lottie M. Daust, 83, formerly of Kemp Lane, Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh on March 8, 1920, daughter of the late Frank and Nellie (Petis) Blanchard.

Calling hours will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m., Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, from Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

ODEAL EMMA GOODMAN, 97, of South Glens Falls died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Malone onMay 3, 1906, she was the daughter of Frank and Delphene (Benware) King.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Gabriel’s Church in Paul Smiths, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home of Saranac Lake.
