Nelson M. Agoney

Plattsburgh — Nelson M. Agoney, 78, of the Military Turnpike Road, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Tupper Lake, Aug. 11, 1925, the son of Wilfred G. and Edith (Larose) Agoney.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart.

Nelson was the head custodian at Peru Central School for 20 years.

He was a member of the Peru Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 and enjoyed crafts and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa M. (Boudrieau) Agoney of Peru; eight children and spouses, Richard and Debbie Agoney, Raymond and Helen Agoney and Joanne and Paul Gainer, all of Peru, Michael and Gina Agoney of Morrisonville, Bill and Theresa Agoney of Peru, Amos and Sandra Agoney of Keeseville and Mellissa Dumas and Pebbles Agoney, both of Peru; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Thomas H. Agoney Sr. of Fairbanks, Ak., Jesse and Millie Agoney of West Virginia and Eugene and Loretta (McKee) Agoney of Peru; 27 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru with Rev. Gilbert Menard, retired, celebrating. Committal service and full military honors will follow in the Peasleeville Cemetery in Peru.

Donations in his memory may be made to a fund to be dispersed by the family or the American Diabetes Association.

Shirleen Bashaw Winch

WILMINGTON — Shirleen Bashaw Winch, 71, of the Springfield Road, Wilmington, died at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003.

She was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Keeseville, the daughter of Roy and Florence (Benedict) Bashaw.

Shirleen was a nurses aide caring for the elderly shut-ins for several years. She was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed her home. She also loved animals and working on crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Forest "Guy" Winch Jr., whom she married Oct. 6, 1952, in Jay. Two sons, Jeffrey and Randy Winch, both of Wilmington; a brother and sister-in-law, Oril and Vesta Bashaw of Clintonville; an aunt, June Lawrence of Port Kent; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirleen was predeceased by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Harold Murcray; and several aunts and uncles.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the family plot in North Jay Cemetery, AuSable Forks.

Memorials to her may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Mineville, NY 12956-0195, or the Wilmington Fire and Rescue Service, Wilmington, NY 12997.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks, is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Frances Miner

Rouses Point — Edna Frances Miner, 91, of Champlain Street, Rouses Point, passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born Nov. 12, 1911, in Rouses Point, the daughter of George and Mary (Foy) Mero.

She was recently a resident of Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

Edna’s gentle and quiet spirit touched many lives as she devoted her life to being a loving wife and mother.

Her husband, George L. Miner who passed away May of 1987; two sons, Alvin and Johnny Miner; and one sister, Vivian Meyers, preceded Edna in death.

Survivors include one son, Gary Miner of Rouses Point; one daughter, Sylvia Luthy of Alma, Wis.; one daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Martin Hewson of Pittsburg, N.H.; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Death Notices

Evelyn B. Stone, 87, of Cedar Street, Malone, NY., died early Sunday morning, Oct. 26, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone. She had been a resident there since December of 1999.

She was born in Constable, N.Y., March 19, 1916, the daughter of the late Frank and Albina (Coburn) Brooks Sr.

There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home Chapel with Monsignor Dennis Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone.

Helen Barney, 87, of Balsam Street, Lake Placid, N.Y., died, Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

She was born in Wilmington, N.Y., Sept. 11, 1916, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Wilkins) Barney.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Derek Spain of the Lake Placid Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be In North Elba Cemetery.

W. BEARDSLEY VAN ETTEN, 78 formerly of Morrisonville, died Monday Oct. 27, 2003, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.
