James S. Gordon

CADYVILLE — James S. Gordon, 49, of Route 3, Cadyville, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center, following a motorcycle accident.

He was born in Plattsburgh on April 8, 1954, the son of Willard J. and Ella (Niles) Gordon of Mooers.

He married the former Marianne Brault on May 15, 1976, at the Cadyville Wesleyan Church, by Rev. Johnathan Hunter.

Mr. Gordon was a member, vice chairman and former trustee of the board at the Cadyville Wesleyan Church.

He graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central High School in 1972.

He worked at Grossman Lumber Company, which later became Ward Lumber Company, for over 25 years and as area manager for the past ten years. While there, he received many awards.

Jim also enjoyed riding and restoring old motorcycles and puttering in his garage, his second home.

Survivors include his wife Marianne; one son, Matthew Gordon serving with the U.S. Air Force in Marysville, Calif.; one daughter, Christina "Chrissi" Gordon of Cadyville; two brothers, Willard Lee Gordon and his wife Mary of Mooers and Dewey Gordon and his wife Kathleen of Rouses Point; four sisters, Martha Duda and her husband Daniel of Irving, N.Y., Gloria Cookman and her husband Raymond of Hemmingford, Quebec, Elizabeth Surprenant and her husband Bruce of Mooers, and Sally Brault and her husband Barry of Warrensburg, Mo.; 15 nieces and nephews; and 11 great-nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Cadyville Wesleyan Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory, may be given to the Cadyville Wesleyan Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 143, Cadyville, NY 12918 or the Gordon family.

John P. Rotella

Mineville — John P. Rotella, 78, of Community Place, Mineville, N.Y., died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at his home.

He was born July 12, 1925, in Mineville, N.Y., the son of Frank and Rose (Damian) Rotella.

Mr. Rotella served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 aboard the USS Howard. He saw the battles of Iwo-Jima, Saipan, Tinian-Leyte and Lingayen Gulf.

He started at the County Clerks office in 1961, became deputy County Clerk and then elected to the County Clerk Office in 1979 until retiring in 1991. He received the Liberty Bell Award from the Bar Association in 1997 and the Harry McDougal Award from the Republican Party in 1991. He was a Charter Member of the Mineville VFW, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the NYS County Clerks Association and former Commissioner of Jurors.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel Rotella of Mineville; his daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Art Forbes of Dover Plains, N.Y. and Chris and John Gifford of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; his son and his wife, John Jr. and Susan Rotella of Ringwood, N.J.; seven grandchildren; his brothers and their wives, George Rotella and Pete Rotella; sister, Mamie Whalen; sisters-in-law, Joan and Irene; several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by an infant son and his brothers, Joseph and Thomas Rotella.

Calling hour will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Moriah.

Donations may be made in John’s memory to High Peaks Hospice in Mineville, N.Y., or to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.

Donald G. Norton

Norway, Maine — Major Donald G. Norton, Retired U.S. Air Force, 73, of Norway, Maine, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Limerick, Maine, on Feb. 22, 1930, the son of Winfield J. and Marie Bickford Norton.

He graduated from Parsonsfield Seminary High School in 1948. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force retiring in 1971 after 20 years. He had been a pilot instructor while in the Air Force. He later worked in Plattsburgh, N.Y., doing radio and TV repair.

He was a member of the North Country Vietnam Veterans Association in West Chazy, N.Y., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125 in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

He married Janet Brown, she died in November of 1993.

He is survived by two brothers, Ralph Norton of Henniker, N.H. and Rodney Norton of Porter, Maine; a niece, Lisa Morrill of Caladonia, N.Y.; a nephew Harold Anderson III of New York; his companion of 10 years, Hazel Abbott of Norway; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Harold; a sister, Pauline; and a nephew, Harold.

Calling hours were held on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Weston-Chandler Funeral Home. Interment followed at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris.

Ramona St. John

Plattsburgh — Ramona "Peachy" St. John, 61, of Bushey Boulevard, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Buffalo on Feb. 1, 1942, daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Burnell) Liberty.

Ramona was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Ramona is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Cathy and Kevin Manion of Plattsburgh, Deborah St. John and her companion Scott Nordin of Plattsburgh and Susan St. John of Plattsburgh; one brother and a sister-in-law, Carl and Rose Liberty of Harkness; one sister and a brother-in-law, Judy and Robert LaFountain of Skowhegan, Maine; nine grandchildren, Corey Manion, Shane Manion, Steven Manion, Heather Manion, Amy Trombly, Matthew Trombly, Brandi St. John, Kyle St. John and Jamie St. John.

She is predeceased by her brother, Robert Liberty.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Barbara A. Ward

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Barbara A. Ward, 70, of Labarre Street in Plattsburgh, and winter resident of Nalcrest, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born on April 4, 1933, in Malone, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Mabel (DuBois) Boyea.

Barbara was a 1951 graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone. She worked for the General Adjustment Bureau in Plattsburgh and Burlington for 26 ½ years.

She was a member of St. John’s Church. She was the St. John’s Church Parish Secretary for ten years working for Monsignor John McAvoy. She was a tireless volunteer for St. John’s Church and School. She belonged to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the St. John’s Rosary Altar Society, The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 479, Mary Immaculate. Barbara was also a member of the St. John’s Athletic Association, Birth Right, RSVP and various others.

Barbara is survived by her husband of over 47 years, Richard Ward; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Lois Ward and Charles Wills, of Las Vegas and Lynn and Robin Averill of Morrisonville; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christina Ward of North Carolina; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ray and Marion Boyea of Newburgh and Jack Boyea of Middletown; three sisters, Betty Sayles of Saranac Lake, Patricia Trudell of Florida and Jane Eitel of Florida. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and God-children.

She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and Robert Boyea; and two sisters, Alys Farley and Marie Miller.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the St. John’s Rosary Altar Society and The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 479, Mary Immaculate, are asked to meet at 4 p.m. for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial and committal services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bangor Cemetery in Bangor, N.Y.

Friends wishing may make donations to St. John’s School or St. John’s Church.

Ruth A. Thompson (Lobdell) Dutton

WEST Plattsburgh — Ruth A. Dutton, 73, of 1265 Route 3, Plattsburgh, died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, after a lengthy stay at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Dannemora on Nov. 27, 1929, the daughter of Arthur and Ida (Betters) Thompson.

Ruth was married in 1950 to Rae Lobdell who died in 1967 and has one surviving daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia (Lobdell) and Eugene Trudeau of Piney Point, Md., three grandchildren and three great-grandsons, Michelle Frankenberg and her son Andrew of Maryland, Jody Jock and her sons Christopher of Florida and Cody of Maryland, Cory and Donnelle Jock (USN) and her four children of California. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Ann Rock of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Grace Lobdell of Connecticut; and a brother-in-law, Walter Lobdell of Albany, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Millie Thompson of Saranac; and a brother-in-law, John Kourofsky of Dannemora; several nieces and nephews. Survivors also include her husband, Roger Dutton whom she married in 1970; and his three children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Connie and Bill Hathaway of Morrisonville and their children Laura and Michael, Roger (Billy) and Cathy Dutton of Long Island and their children, Amanda and Mathew, Mark and Bonnie Dutton of Peru and their children Jason, Nicole and her son Sawyer, Erica and her son, Alex and Kristin.

Ruth was predeceased by a brother, Richard Thompson and two sisters, Isabelle Gordon and Helen Kourofsky.

A funeral service for the family was held at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kris C. Lauzon, pastor of St. John’s Church officiating. Burial was in St. James Cemetery, Cadyville, immediately following with Father Lauzon reciting committal prayers.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Cadyville Wesleyan Church.

Death Notices

Owen H. Barcomb, 60, of Kirkland Street, Deltona, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

June T. Laramie, 76, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical in Saranac Lake. She had been a resident of Mercy Healthcare in Tupper Lake.

She was born May 26, 1927, in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Francis Joseph and Mary Louise (Theriault) Disotell.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at Holy Name Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery.
