Published: 10/20/03Amalie (Omi) LechleitnerWILLSBORO — Amalie (Omi) Lechleitner passed away in her home on Oct. 19, 2003. She was born May 10, 1903, in Rodach, Germany, daughter of Frieda and Max Gunther. She came to the United States in April 1923. In 1929, she married Emil Lechleitner, who passed away in 1977. They resided in New York City until 1962, when they moved to Hopewell Junction. From 1977 until 1982, "Omi" lived in Lake Placid, where, as a senior citizen, she was very active as a volunteer for the Olympics of 1980. From 1982 until her death, she resided in Willsboro. During her lifetime, Mrs. Lechleitner raised three children and worked many jobs, including: private personal cook, hairdresser, school aide and school cook. Her volunteer work also included assisting the Heart Fund and the New York City School System. Omi was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one sister and five brothers. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, George and Dolores Lechleitner of Millbrook, N.Y.; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and Ken Maher of Hyde Park, N.Y.; and Linda and Kent Cauley of Willsboro. Omi had eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. The family will have a
graveside service at Nine Partners Cemetery in Millbrook at a future
date. In lieu of flowers and donations, Omi’s wishes would be for you
to spend some special time with a loved one. John Mott MasonPLATTSBURGH — John Mott Mason died peacefully and with dignity at his home in Plattsburgh early Saturday morning, Oct. 18, 2003. He was born in Plattsburgh, Aug. 5, 1923, the son of Elizabeth (Clark) Mason and Herbert Putnam Mason. He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1941 and Union College with a degree in Civil Engineering. John met Mary Allen when they were 10 years old. They were married 11 years later on Christmas Eve, 1944. John was an owner and manager of A. Mason and Sons Lumber and Millwork for 25 years. After the family business closed, he and Mary opened John Mason Remodelers and operated that business for 20 years before retirement. John very much enjoyed life and was a participatory citizen in a community he loved so much. Always an eternal optimist, he was a charter member of the Plattburgh Optimist Club. He enjoyed displaying his thespian talents with the Plattsburgh Little Theater. Having attained the rank of Eagle Scout, he later became a scoutmaster. John loved his church and was a Sunday school teacher, vestry member and senior warden of Trinity Episcopal Church. His many other interests and activities include that of president of the Plattsburgh Chamber of Commerce, money raising campaigns for the Red Cross and American Cancer Society and past president of the Vilas Home. After retirement, John occasionally, taught drafting classes at BOCES. He was a teacher for Literacy Volunteers and treasurer of Friends of the Library. John loved to stay active and try new things. To the chagrin of his family, he undertook sailing lessons at the age of 72. His final sailing mission resulted in his craft being swamped in 50-degree water. The boat was advertised for sale the next day. John was athletic and enjoyed many sports, including skiing, climbing, jogging and riding his bike. Photography was another one of life’s pleasures for John. John will be missed most of all by Mary, his wife of 59 years, and their three children, Christopher Mason, Douglas Mason and Susan Getman. John is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Donna Mason, Terrie Mason and son-in-law, William Getman. He very much loved his four granddaughters, Tracy and Nicole Mason from West Hartford, Conn., and Rebecca and Sarah Getman from Lake Placid. John is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Mason Jr. of Anacostes, Wash., and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Mason of Shelburne, Vt. John made arrangements to have his body donated to the University of Vermont Medical School. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. People wishing to honor John’s memory may make donations to the Building Fund at Trinity Episcopal Church, 18 Trinity Place, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901. The O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. Wendell L. WilsonPLATTSBURGH — Wendell L. Wilson, 78, of Montcalm Ave., died oat his home on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, following a lengthy illness. Wendell was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 14, 1925, the son of Lewin and Katherine (Bigelow) Wilson. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 after two years at Plattsburgh State Teachers College. He served for six years and fought in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He was groundskeeper for both Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium for 21 years prior to returning to Plattsburgh. Wendell was a member of the American Legion, Post #20 of Plattsburgh, for 16 years. Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Bushey; two sisters, Lola Burl; and Linda "Ginger" Light and her husband, Jim, all of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be today, Oct. 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home for services. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Ralph H. MousseauPLATTSBURGH — Ralph H. Mousseau, 79, of Facteau Avenue, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 9, 1924, the son of George and Ida (Newell) Mousseau. Ralph married Bertha Comstock in St. Peter’s Church on June 21, 1944. Bertha died March 28, 1994. He married Edna (Hayes) Trudeau on Nov. 26, 1995. He worked for the Diamond Match Co. and its successors for 45 years, retiring from the Packaging Corporation of America in 1986. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #7248, Treadwells Mills. Ralph loved to travel, play bingo and play cards. He loved winters in Florida and working in his garden. Survivors include his wife, Edna; one son, Carlton Mousseau and his wife, Patricia of Toledo, Ohio; two daughters, Linda Baxter and her husband, Ken, of Upper Marlboro, Md. and Judy Doe and her husband, Richard, of Dannemora; six step-children, Donna Hebert and her husband, Gillis, of Plattsburgh, Sidney Trudeau and his wife, Terri, of Chazy Lake, Pamela Boulerice and her husband, Dick, of Mooers, Maude Trudeau of Plattsburgh, John Trudeau and his wife, Sharron, of Altona, and Monica Harding and her husband, Tim, of Altona; and one sister, Marie Mousseau of Plattsburgh. He is also survived by five grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Jeff Smith, Michelle and Casey Jacobs, Mark and Allison Mousseau, Jason Baxter, and Michael Doe; one great-granddaughter, Brieanna Marie Smith; 16 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Three brothers, Raymond, Clarence "Buster," and Clifford, and four sisters, Loretta, Mae, Edith and Clara, predeceased him. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 7:15 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. SULLIVAN, 76, of Bloomingdale, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. Born in Olmstedville, N.Y., on Jan. 23, 1927, he was the son of Walter and Kathleen (Mea) Sullivan. Visitation will be held at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Bible vigil will be held at 3:45 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Church, Bloomingdale with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Bloomingdale. SHIRLEY A. NADEAU, 65, of Valley Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 20, 1938, daughter of the late Nelson and Eleanor (LaPier) Garrow. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. RAMONA ‘PEACHY’ St. JOHN, 61, of Bushey Boulevard, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born in Buffalo on Feb. 1, 1942, daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Burnell) Liberty. Calling hours will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh. ELAINE E. HUTCHINS, 81, of Depot Street, Burke, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. Born in Malone on June 14, 1922, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Bean. Calling hours will be held at Chateaugay Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday on Oct. 21, 2003, in Burke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Derek Trudell officiating, assisted by the Rev. Eleanor Bellows of the Chateaugay United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Ridgeway Cemetery in Burke. Donations in her memory may be made to the Burke Fire Department, Burke Adult Center of Burke United Methodist Church. HELEN C. McCLELLAN, 81, of Harmony Road, Mineville, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Elizabethtown Community Hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1922, in Witherbee, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Woods) Begnouche. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Cemetery in Moriah.
