Published: 10/09/03George BoydenNew City, NY — George Boyden, 59, of New City, N.Y., died suddenly on Monday, Oct. 6, 2003. He was born April 24, 1944, in Leominster, Mass., the son of Norman and Blanche (Richard) Boyden. He graduated from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y., in 1966. George worked for many years as a senior scientist at Wyeth in Rouses Point, N.Y., moving to the company’s Pearl River facility in 1996. He recently retired after 34 years with the company. Survivors include his wife, Frances; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Edward Noeller of Syracuse, N.Y.; his sister, Roberta Boyden of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; his children, Bruce Boyden of Washington DC, and Rebecca Boyden of Centreville, Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews. friends and relatives. Calling hours will be on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Augustine's Church, in New City. Burial will follow at Brick Church Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association. Lloyd ProvostNew Jersey — Mr. Lloyd Provost, 52, of the Military Turnpike, Ellenburg Depot, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident in New Brunswick, N.J. He was born in Plattsburgh on July 21, 1951, son of the late Raymond and Valeria (McKee) Provost. Lloyd was an avid hunter, skidoer and biker. He worked as truck driver for the Fallan Trucking Company for two years and an owner operator for several years. Lloyd was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving 1968 to 1971 in Vietnam. He is survived by his companion, Mary McKee; one son and a daughter-in-law, Lloyd "Buddy" and Sherri Provost Jr. of Peru; two daughters and one son-in-law, Angela and Daniel Disbrow of Schuyler Falls and Erin Provost of Peru and attending the University of Maine; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Raymond Provost and his companion Mae Rascoe of Saranac, William and Carole Provost of Morrisonville and Matthew Provost and his companion Cindy Howerton of Schuyler Falls; one sister and a brother-in-law, Cynthia and Claude Lavarnway of West Chazy; four grandchildren, Karlea Provost, Ashlea Provost, Shane Disbrow and Derrick Disbrow; several nieces; and a nephew. Calling hours will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, from 10 to 12 noon from the Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A graveside service will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona. Donations in his memory may be made to the Altona Fire Department or the University of Maine Athletic Department. Jerry L. LaValleyPLATTSBURGH — Jerry L. LaValley, 53, of 20 Cherry Street, Plattsburgh, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 7, 2003. He was killed in an automobile accident in Cranbury, N.J., returning from a motorcycle rally in South Carolina. Mr. LaValley was born in Plattsburgh on June 8, 1950, the son of James and Alice (Pratt) LaValley. He was a member of Laborers Local 185 of Plattsburgh and was an avid motorcyclist. Mr. LaValley was a truck driver and worked for a U.S. Postal Service contractor in the local area in the past several years. Survivors include his parents, James and Alice LaValley; one son, Jerod LaValley and his wife Heather of Catawba, S.C.; one daughter, Tracy Green and her husband Michael of Kernesville, N.C.; two brothers, Timothy LaValley and his wife Barbara of Leon, Kan., and Jeff LaValley of Grayson, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Mathew, Jacob, Cody and Jed LaValley, all of Catawba, S.C., Andrew and Timothy Green of Kernesville, N.C., and Victoria and Cole of Plattsburgh; also several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in his memory, may be made to Victory Junction Gang Camp for terminally ill children. Sylvia J. KneppBRASHER FALLS, NY — Sylvia J. Knepp, 62 of Church Street, Brasher Falls, N.Y., formerly of Ogdensburg and Massena died Wednesday morning, Oct. 8, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Center, Burlington, Vt. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Raphael's Church, Heuvelton with Rev. John Murphy, officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Heuvelton. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Surviving are a son Robert T. Knepp Jr. of Massena; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Penny Marie) Bisonette of Dannemora, N.Y., and Valerie Alguire of Potsdam, N.Y.; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Irving (Sandra) Pharoah of Potsdam; one brother, Wayne Miller of Ogdensburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Earl J. StoneEllenburg Depot — Earl J. Stone, 84, of Ellenburg Depot, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Altona on June 13, 1919, the son of Joseph and Clara (LaRoche) Stone. He was a dairy farmer, logger and builder for many years and also was a maple syrup producer for many years. His hobbies included fishing, playing pool, watching old TV sitcoms and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Clara "Mabel" Stone of Ellenburg Depot; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Marjorie and Stanley Rushford of Ellenburg Depot, Joann Stone of Ellenburg Depot, Judy Duffina of Ellenburg Depot, Nancy and Andrew Quinn of Plattsburgh, Kathleen and Mike Leahy of Champlain and Donna Brassard of Mooers and her companion Darren LaBombard; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and one on the way. His parents; his first wife, Catherine Cook; two sons, James and Earl Jr.; a daughter, Mary; a son-in-law, Michael Brassard, a granddaughter, Jill; a brother, Bill Stone; and three sisters, Bertha Fuller, Valena LaValley and Evelyn LaValley, all died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday from St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country. William F. Cromie Sr., 82, of Bradenton, Fla., and formerly of Route 3, Saranac and AuSable Beach died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Integrated Health Service at Braden River, Fla. He was born in Plattsburgh, Nov. 6, 1920, the son of Ross and Maude (Parsons) Cromie. There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Saranac United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tracey Golas, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home. John R. Castagner, 73, of Elm Street in Malone, died, Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone. He was born Sept. 10, 1930, in Massena, the son of Joseph Castagner and Florence (Mayville) Castagner. A grave side service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Katherine E. Rowlson, 78, of Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh, Oct. 16, 1924, the daughter of Ira and Elizabeth (Marshall) Rowlson. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at East Beekmantown Cemetery. The O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. |
