Published: 09/30/03Fred B. PierceWestport — Fred B. Pierce, 60, of the Lakeshore Road, Westport, died unexpectedly died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga. He was born in Niskayuna, June 30, 1943, the son of Fred E. and Sadie (Whittemore) Pierce. He was a graduate of Elizabethtown-Lewis School in 1960. Fred, his wife and son, together owned and operated Pierce’s Service Station in Lewis for many years. He was a member of the Westport Fish and Game Club and enjoyed hunting and working. He especially loved spending time with his grandson. Survivors include his wife, Janice L. (Mero) Pierce of Westport, whom he married, May 2, 1964, in Westport; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Leta Pierce of Lewis; his very special grandson, Josh Pierce; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Carol Pierce of Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Fred Shaw, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown, officiating. Burial will follow in the Black River Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the local rescue squad of one’s choice. Doris M. BechardWEST CHAZY — Doris M. Bechard, 86, of Lakeshore Road, died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, with her family at her side. She was born in Ingraham, N.Y., on Jan. 7, 1917, the daughter of Wilbur and Auerilla (Pombrio) Trombly. Doris married Alexander Bechard Sr., at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh in 1944. She was a member of the Chazy Central School Alumni Association, a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy, a member of the parish Altar Rosary and was a catechism teacher for many years at the Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. She is best remembered for her unconditional support as a dairyman’s wife and her unselfish giving to her family and friends. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Alexander of West Chazy; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Alexander and Barbara Bechard of Monty’s Bay, Bruce and Lynne Bechard of San Diego, Calif., Steven and Vina Bechard of Point Au Roche, Timothy and Kathleen Bechard of New City, N.Y., Terry Bechard of Plattsburgh and Matthew Bechard of West Chazy; two daughters and one son-in-law, Cynthia and Robert Roy of West Chazy and Nancy Oliver of Ingraham; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Hersey and Eleanor Trombly of Chazy, Virgil and Sonia Trombly of Norwood, N.Y., and Lyles and Helen Trombly of Ingraham; three sisters, Beulah LaVarnway of Morrisonville, Alma Giroux of Beekmantown and Rita Fessette of Point Au Roche; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Roy Trombly and Merton Trombly; and one sister, Norma Oliver. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Altar Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Irene BonevichJay, NY — Ms. Irene Bonevich, 64, of Jay, N.Y., passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 27, 2003, with a friend at her side at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. Irene was born in Old Forge, Pa., on Oct. 10, 1938, the daughter of Arthur and Irene Bonevich. She moved about throughout her life and settled in Tupper Lake for several years. In the fall of 2002, Irene moved to a lovely home on the John Fountain Road, Jay. While living in Tupper Lake, Irene enjoyed book readings and musical activities. She found pleasure in long walks, playing bingo and bowling. She made several friends and had a particular close friendship with Ms. Veronica Barrette. During her retirement she remained active at home and volunteered in her community. She helped prepare and deliver baked goods and crafts to various day care centers, libraries, the ambulance squad, the local fire departments, as well as other organizations. This brought great joy to many people’s lives. Irene is survived by her senior companion; an adoptive grandchild; and several close friends who will dearly miss her. Calling hours will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday Oct. 2, 2003, at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home followed by a Christian Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks with burial in Holy Name Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Essex County ARC or the AuSable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Squad. Lucille H. LaCountCHAMPLAIN — Lucille H. LaCount, 81, of Champlain passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born March 1, 1922 in Chazy. Her husband, Adolphus LaCount, who passed away Sept. 26, 1999, predeceased Lucille. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Joan LaCount of Rouses Point and Russell and Marilyn LaCount of Mooers Forks; four daughters, Theresa Ero of Champlain, Gloria Hart and her husband Harvey of Champlain, Carol Duquette of Champlain and Linda LaCount of Champlain; two sisters, Gert Robare of Massachusetts and Evelyn Benevineau of Massachusetts; one sister-in-law, Elenear Jarvis of Massachusetts; 22 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Chazy. Death Notices Kathleen A. Aubin, 72, of Mill Street, Malone, N.Y., died early Monday morning, Sept. 29, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone. She had been a resident there since July 16, 2003. She was born in Massena, N.Y., Aug. 25, 1931, the daughter of Louis and Pearl (Fleury) Mersinger. There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Coal Hill Cemetery in Westville, N.Y. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone. BENJAMINE T. LAUNDERVILLE, of Henry Street, Port Henry, N.Y., died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt. He was born in Moriah, N.Y., on June 13, 1924, the son of Benjamine and Emeline (Cheney) Launderville. A memorial service will be conducted at a date and time to be announced. A full obituary will appear in the Press Republican. Thelma C. St. Andrew, 67, of Mooers, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements were incomplete Monday evening with the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. MEMORIAL SERVICE Brown Funeral Home will be holding a memorial service for the families and loved ones of all those who have died from February through August of this year. The service will be held at St. John’s Church on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, p.m. |
