Margaret Venne

Cadyville — Margaret Venne, 90, of Cadyville, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at her residence.

She was born in Redford on Feb. 4, 1913, the daughter of Jerry and Mary (Lafountain) Racette.

She married Addison V. Venne on Dec. 25, 1932, at the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Mr. Venne died on March 28, 1983.

She graduated from Plattsburgh Normal School and Plattsburgh State University. She taught in a one room school house in Redford at age 18 for three years and taught at the one room school house in Gougeville for several years. She taught at Saranac Central School from 1943 until 1974, when she received the "teacher of the year" award.

She was a member of St. James Parish and the Altar Rosary Society. She also taught religious education for many years. She was a generous and loving parent and grandparent. She excelled at writing and reciting poetry. She had great faith in St. Anthony, everyone called her when something was lost because she had the inside track.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Beverly Venne of Cadyville; a daughter, Joan Herron of Cadyville; her grandchildren, Pam and John Mahlie of South Bend, Ind., Tammy and Jim Connolly of Lake Clear, N.Y., Hugh and Cheryl Herron of Cadyville, Dan and Sylvie Venne of Alexandria, Va., Mike and Kim Venne of Michigan, Tim and Linda Herron of Delmar, N.Y., Michelle and Rod Frechette of Corrales, N.M., Cindy and John Filion of Champlain, Bruce and Cindy Herron of Nassau, N.Y., and Holly and Ed Schmitt of Columbus, Ohio; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Louis, James, Sam, Ernest and Charles; and sisters, Mary, Agnes, Cora, Victoria, Mabel and Maude; her husband; and her son in law, Hugh Herron.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

Ann Kearney Hanpeter

Tupper Lake — Ann Kearney Hanpeter died on Sept. 23, 2003, at the Mercy Health Care Center in Tupper Lake.

She was 88 and had been in declining health for several years.

Surviving her are two sons, Michael G. Hanpeter, who lives in Annandale, Va., and Richard E. Hanpeter of Saranac Lake and their families, including five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ann was born on March 16, 1915, in New York City and spent her early years there and later in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. She was married for a short time to Bert Kenny until his death in 1941. In 1944, she married Gus Hanpeter. They moved to North Creek soon after, where they raised their family and where her husband was a general contractor and furniture maker until his death in 1971. She remained in North Creek until 1988.

Her son, Philip T. Hanpeter, died in 1994; and infant twins died in 1947. Her sisters, Ethel and Alberta and brother Thomas predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Saranac Lake on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's, preceding the Mass. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in North Creek at 2 p.m.

The family requests that any donations be made to the Mercy Health Care Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., North River.

James Gragg, 71, formerly of 17 Ampersand Bay Rd., Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Cener at Saranac Lake.

He was born in Watertown, N.Y., on July 31, 1932, the son of Harry and Lola Gragg.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Arrangements are with the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
