Published: 09/22/03Michael LeRoy SolanoPLATTSBURGH — Michael LeRoy Solano, 67, of Newell Avenue, Plattsburgh died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Denver, Colorado on Sept. 29, 1935, the son of Hubert and Lucinda (Sanchez) Solano. Michael served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1975. He served two tours in Vietnam where he received numerous commendations, including many Air Force commendations and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the U.S. Post Office on October 1, 2000 where he had been a letter carrier. Michael was a fan of Plattsburgh High School Soccer, spending time with his grandchildren, going to the casino in Montreal and being with his dog, Tawney Gold. He was a member of Fountain Brothers American Legion Post #1619 in West Plattsburgh and St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Michael is survived by his children Constance Best and her husband Charles of Rio Linda, Calif.; James Solano of Littleton, Colo.; Christina Solano and her fiancé Scott Herman of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Joseph Solano of Mooers Forks; his grandchildren Corey Trombley; Max Best and Hunter Riley; a brother Anthony Sanchez of Cheyenne, Wyo., several nieces and nephews and his ex-wife Beverly Solano. Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 23 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Church, Chazy. Friends wishing to make donations to Mt. St. Vincent’s Home, 4159 Lowell Blvd., Denver, Colo. 80211-1658. Members of the American Legion are asked to meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. for services. Gloria AshlinePLATTSBURGH — Gloria Ashline, 71, formerly of Chazy, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 15, 1931, the daughter of John and Myra (Shappell) Duquette. She married Rudolph Ashline on June 7, 1952, at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Rudolph died on Aug. 19, 2000. She was formerly a member of Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents; she is predeceased by two brothers, Heman Duquette and Clayton Duquette; and a sister, Dorothy Towner. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation. |
