Published: 09/20/03John J. HessPlattsburgh — John J. Hess, 86, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a brief illness. He was born on Feb. 17, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and worked for Mobil Oil Company for 37 years, retiring in the early 1980's. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6191 in Rockaway Beach, Queens, the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072 and the American Legion Post 20. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. John was predeceased by his wife, Jean Hess, nee Farrington and a daughter, Christine Beth Hess. John is survived by daughters Jeanne Gutierrez of Baldwin, N.Y., and Laurel Santora and husband, Joseph of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; sons John Hess and wife Terry of Long Beach, N.Y., and Daniel Hess and wife Joanie of Rockaway Park, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, Nancy, Tara, Melissa, Jessica, Joseph, Jean, Christina, Jaclyn, Jillian, Jenna, Danny Boy, Patrick and Gregory; and two great-granddaughters, Gabrielle and Carly. Calling hours will be Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A prayer service will be held at 3 p.m. Members of the Keeseville Elks Lodge will meet Sunday evening at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Randolph FosterPlattsburgh — Randolph Foster, 74, of Daytona Blvd., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Hackensack, N.J., on March 19, 1929, son of the late Oliver and Edith Foster. Randolph was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He served four years as the Commodore of the Jamaica Yacht Club. Randolph was retired from the Bronx District Attorney's office, serving 24 years for the New York City Police Department. After retirement he worked as a private investigator, owning his own business and then working for CDC Security as the Director of Security. Randolph is survived by his wife, the former Doris Vincent, whom he married Aug. 2, 1980; four daughters and one son-in-law, Gaylene Foster of the Bronx, Kearen Foster of the Bronx, Georgeanne and David McReynolds of the Bronx and Cathy Skellie of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin and Elise Foster of Poughkeepsie, Thomas and Renee Henry of Manalapan, N.J., and Keith Henry of Schenectady; one twin sister, Ruth Thompson of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, David Foster of Rahway, N.J., and Robert Foster of Brooklyn; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving guests Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Donations in his memory may be made to the family. Robert J. SawickiROUSES POINT — Robert J. Sawicki, 26, of Rouses Point, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, as a result of a motorcycle accident in the Town of Beekmantown. He was born Feb. 14, 1977, in Plattsburgh, the son of James and Bonnie (Desmond) Sawicki. His parents, James and Bonnie Sawicki of Rouses Point; one brother, Eric Sawicki of Rouses Point; one sister, Jessica Kane and her husband Allen of Leesburg, Fla.; his grandmother, Lora Desmond of Maryland; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins, survive Robert. Robert enjoyed spending time with his many good friends. Calling hours will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. |
