Published: 09/19/03Beverly James CooperTiconderoga — Beverly James Cooper, 77, of Third Avenue, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center of Burlington, Vt. He was born in Port Henry on Jan. 3. 1926, the son of the late Orville H. and Agnes (Hollister) Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of his life. He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga for 35 years and was a member of the company’s Quarter Century Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the European and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 224, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 146 and the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks 1494, all of Ticonderoga. He was also a life member of the Ticonderoga Fire Department. Mr. Cooper was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Angeline Mazzotte; two sons, John E. Cooper and his wife Roberta of Ticonderoga and William J. Cooper and his wife Nicole of East Greenbush; and one daughter, Cathy Cooper Corliss and her husband Alan of Londonderry, N.H.; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Bernice) Gonyeau of Port Henry; and six grandchildren, John Garrett Cooper, Keely Rae Cooper, Morgan Sara Leilani Cooper, Britni Alexandra Corliss, Kyrstin Renee Corliss and Cooper Alan Corliss. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many other loving family and friends. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, Sept. 21st, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. The American Legion will conduct ritualist services at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home followed by the Elk’s Lodge of Sorrow Service. A Catholic wake service will take place at 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 22nd, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery of Port Henry. Donations in his memory may be made to the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 New York Ave., New York, NY 10021. Robert J. SawickiROUSES POINT — Robert J. Sawicki, 26, of Rouses Point, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, as a result of a motorcycle accident in the Town of Beekmantown. He was born Feb. 14, 1977, in Plattsburgh, the son of James and Bonnie (Desmond) Sawicki. His parents, James and Bonnie Sawicki of Rouses Point; one brother, Eric Sawicki of Rouses Point; one sister, Jessica Kane and her husband Allen of Leesburg, Fla.; his grandmother, Lora Desmond of Maryland; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins, survive Robert. Robert enjoyed spending time with his many good friends. Calling hours will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. Earl W. WoodsScottsbluff, Neb. — Earl W. Woods, 89, of Scottsbluff, Neb., and formerly of West Decatur, Pa., died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at the Northville Villa, Gering, Neb. He was born in West Decatur, Pa., on Jan. 5, 1914, the son of the late James L. and Anna B. (Kanouff) Woods. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He was employed by the E.I. DuPont Corp., Niagara Falls, N.Y., until his retirement. He enjoyed making patio lights, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred H. Klinger of Scottsbluff, Neb. They were married on Dec. 12, 1933, in Hagarstown, Md. Survivors also include his daughters, Shirley Wooden and her husband Ronald of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Carol Lombard and her husband James of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; two brothers, Harold Woods of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Kenneth G. Woods and his wife Dorothy of West Valley, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Matthew Lombard of Churchville, Va., Andrew Lombard of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Pamela Wooden of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Rhonda Shay of Fairbanks, Alaska; six great-grandchildren; and two great - great - grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Amy Beth Wooden; and four brothers, Alvin, Walter, Robert and James Woods. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg, Pa., with the Rev. David Aaserud. Burial was at the Reidy Cemetery in Wallaceton, Pa. Graveside military honors were accorded by the Philipsburg Honor Guard. Janice (Hoag) GriffinRouses Point — Janice (Hoag) Griffin, 56, of 21 A Maple St., Rouses Point, N.Y., passed away Sept. 17, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Healthcare Facility in Burlington, Vt. Janice was born to Lillie (Barritt) Hoag and Carson B. Hoag on July 3, 1947, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She was most recently employed at Powertex and worked for many years at the now defunct customs brokerage of F.W. Myers. She was a member of NCCS Class of 1965. She was an avid artist and had a life long love affair with music, playing the guitar, clarinet and synthesizer. She performed with her school band at the New York World’s Fair and has also been a member of the "Strawhatters" in the past. She enjoyed sewing and designing in many forms and had won numerous blue ribbons for her doll costume designs at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Vermont. Janice is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Steven and Jacqueline Weiner and two grandsons, Andrew and Chad of Vermont; her mother, Lillie B. Hoag of Rouses Point; a brother, Carson and his wife Carmen; a niece, Olivia and nephew Mackenzie; and her friend and teammate, Chris. Her father, Carson B. Hoag; and Jacqueline’s father, Jack Davis Griffin, her former husband, predecease her. There will be no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Clark Funeral Home at 148 Lake St., Rouses Point, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association. Desmarais — A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg, for Raymond J. Desmarais, 82, formerly of the Plank Road, Ellenburg, who passed away at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. The Mass was concelebrated by the Rev. Garvin Desmarais, Correctional Facilities Chaplain, The Rev. Joseph Wheelock, pastor of St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg and Deacon John Levinson from the Altona Correctional Facility. The funeral pall was placed by Brenda and Richard Boulrice, Jackie Germain and Cathy Miller. The crucifix was placed by Brenda Boulrice. Scripture readings were read by Jackie Germain and Richard Boulrice. The gifts were presented by Joanne Boulrice and Janice Gosselin. Pall bearers were Robert Desmarais, Brent Germain, Leo Lashway, Walter Lashway, Gary Demarais and Leonard Lashway. A eulogy was given by Brenda Boulrice. Burial took place in the parish cemetery where Rev. Desmarais recited the committal prayers. Arrangements were with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. |
