Mildred I. Morrison

Rouses Point

Mildred I. Morrison, 80, of Manor Drive, Rouses Point, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Mooers Forks on Oct. 23, 1922, the daughter of Robert and Julia (Sharrow) Morrison.

She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Rouses Point. Mildred was a bartender at the Holland Motel for 20 years, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include, three brothers, Charles Morrison of Rouses Point, Lawrence Morrison of Mooers Forks and Willis "Pete" Morrison and his wife Marion of Champlain; three sisters, Eleanor Baker of Plattsburgh, Geraldine Garrand of Plattsburgh and Pauline Baker and her husband Loyal of Chazy; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; one sister, Gertrude Turner; and one brother, Leonard Morrison.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Champlain.

Donations may be made to the Cancer Society.

Daniel B. Hemphill

ODESSA, Texas/Taos, N.M.

Daniel Boone Hemphill, 85, died Aug. 18, 2003, after a long fight with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Hermine; two daughters; and two granddaughters. He was a dear friend of Thelma Douglas of Plattsburgh.

He will be remembered fondly by many docents from Plattsburgh State who visited his camp summer life neat Taos, N.M. Dan was hailed a fierce leader of good causes in Odessa and served as mayor as well as many other roles. He was a mentor and philanthropist who worked tirelessly for children. He was a recipient of many awards, including outstanding citizen of Odessa and the national honor award of the American Company Association.

"His whole life was dedicated to mankind."

Robert J. Lamphere

Swanton, Vt.

Robert J. Lamphere, 53, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003.

Bobby was born in Swanton, July 28, 1950, the son of the late Wesley C. "Joe" and Blanche (Tatro) Lamphere.

He was a lifelong Swanton resident, graduated from Swanton High School and was employed by the former Union Carbide Corporation in Saint Albans Town for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Honor Lamphere of Swanton; and his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sara Lamphere of California.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE, director of Saint Anne’s Shrine in Isle La Motte will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Gifts in Bobby’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate, 77 Hegeman Avenue, Colchester, Vermont 05446.

Francis E. Sharkey

Francis E. Sharkey, 68, a 35 year resident of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., and formerly of Dannemora, N.Y., passed away in Vassar Bros. Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, on Sept. 15, 2003.

Mr. Sharkey was born in Clayburg, N.Y., on Feb. 10, 1935, son of Wilmer and Louise (LaFountain) Sharkey.

Francis received an Associates Degree from Dutchess Community College.

He was a sergeant for the New York State Corrections Department where he worked for 31 years. He retired from Downstate Correctional Facility in 1993. Francis served in active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, then served in Army reserves with the 133rd Maintenance Division in Peekskill, and discharged May 2, 1994.

He was a 28 year member of American Legion Post 1758, Hopewell Junction; a 16 year member BPOE Lodge 2609, Wappingers Falls; member of St.. Mary Mother of the Church, Fishkill and St.. Mary’s Church, Wappingers Falls.

On June 30, 1962, he married Jeanne Duquette, in LaColle, Quebec, she predeceased him on April 23, 1998.

He later married, Helene Folster Sept. 6, 2003, in Poughkeepsie, she survives.

Survivors include, a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Lorri Sharkey of Croton-on-Hudson; two brothers, Bernard C. Sharkey of Oriskany, N.Y., and Harold L. Sharkey of Independence, Mo.; two sisters, Marion L. Collins of Saranac, N.Y., and Lillian M. Hamel-Rizzie of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a grandson, Steven P. Sharkey; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by one brother, Wilmer J. Sharkey.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Straub Funeral Home, Inc. 55 E. Main St., Wappingerss Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at St. Mary Mother of The Church, Jackson Street, Fishkill, with Monsignor Joseph P. Martin, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wappingerss Falls.

Death Notices

PEARL DUDLEY, 96, formerly of Maple Street, Hudson Falls, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Hallmark Nursing Centre in Granville, following a long illness.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1907, in Mineville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Sam and Susan (Ellsworth) Dudley.

Friends may call from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, following the calling hours, at the funeral home with the Rev. James Mackey, pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls, officiating. The Rite of Committal will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

GLENFORD CONRAD SNYDER, 81, of Moody Road, Tupper Lake, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born Feb. 17, 1922, in St. Regis Falls.

Calling hours will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept., 15, 2003, at the Richer Funeral Home, a funeral service will follow at 12 noon. Burial with full military honors will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery following the service.

EDITH P. KNIGHT, 91, of The ARC Home, Ferry Road, Crown Point, N.Y., died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at The Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

She was born at Newburgh, N.Y., on March 13,1912, the daughter of John Fleming and Anna Persill.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, at 11:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Crown Point, N.Y.
