Published: 09/04/03Bernadette B. CarltonMorrisonville, NY — Bernadette B. Carlton, 80, of Bushey Street in Morrisonville, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vt. She was born in Burlington on May 3, 1923, the daughter of Norbert and Beatrice (Gaudet) Boudreau. Her family was proud of their Acadian roots, which her father traced back to France in the 17th century. Bernadette was a graduate of St. Clare Academy in Woonsocket, R.I. She had a successful career as an administrative assistant, working at an armaments plant for the British government during World War II, and later for Catholic Charities in Woonsocket, R.I. She married John G. Carlton, then a flight engineer with the U.S. Air Force, on Feb. 7, 1956. She moved to Japan shortly afterward, the first of many adventures she would share with her new husband and growing family. Throughout her life, Mrs. Carlton was active in parishes in Japan, Hawaii, Cape Cod and New York state. Most recently, she was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. She also supported numerous charities and missionaries, especially the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers and the Christian Appalachian Project. She maintained a lifelong interest in politics and world events. She always personified the Christian ideals of humility, compassion and service to others. Mrs. Carlton was widowed in 1998. Survivors including her four children and their families, Martine L. Carlton and special friend Laurie ten Hope, of Sacramento, Calif.; John G. Carlton Jr., his wife Martha Madigan and their daughter Ana Xiaoqiong; Anne-Marie Burdo, her husband Michael and their children, Emily and Adam; and Christopher S. Carlton, his wife Hala (Herring) and their children C. Shawn and Kathryn. Also surviving are five brothers and sisters: L. Maurice Boudreau of New Hampshire; Lucille A. Boudreau of Woonsocket, R.I.; Mrs. John (Eva) Anterni of Riverside, R.I.; Marguerite M. Boudreau, of Woonsocket, R.I.; and Mrs. F. Wilfred (Louise) Elias of Cumberland. R.I.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Glenn (Nancy) Perry, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street in Plattsburgh. A wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Alexander's Church. Burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, P.O. Box 301, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0301, or the Christian Appalachian Project. Cecile M. BurlPlattsburgh — Mrs. Cecile M. Burl, 96, of South Acres Road, Plattsburgh, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Champlain, N.Y., on Sept. 21, 1906, the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (DuPont) Peryer. Cecile married Orville Burl on Nov. 12, 1923, at Holy Angels Church in Altona. She had made her home in Peru, N.Y., for 44 years before moving to Plattsburgh. Cecile had been a 4-H Leader in Clinton County and she was a nurses aid at the Old Champlain Valley Hospital. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society of St. Peter's Church. Cecile was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Elizabeth Peryer; her husband, Orville Burl; her sons, Norman Burl and Kenneth Burl; a daughter, Corrine Burl; her brothers, Horace, Emery, Clarence, Kenneth, Romer and Charles; and her sisters, Eva Wood and Rhoda Hebert. She is survived by a son, Louis Burl of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Elizabeth Mooney of Plattsburgh and Elinor Bedard and her fiancé George Bredig of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; her brother; Wesley Peryer and his wife Eleanor of Hagaman, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law Lola Burl of Cumberland Head; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and special friends, Lillian Rizzi, Sue Davison, Jeri Maliniak, Gene Gladue; her care givers; Sandy Estes, Laura Facteau and Melissa Avery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Church. Interment will follow in St. Augustine's Cemetery in Peru. Members of the Rosary and Altar Society of St. Peter's Church are asked to meet Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the Rosary and Altar Society of St. Peter’s Church. Margaret E. DumasTUPPER LAKE, NY — Margaret Emma Dumas, 87, of Lindsay Ave, Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the Horace Nye Nursing Center in Elizabethtown, N.Y. She was born Feb. 9, 1916, at her grandfather's farm in South Colton, the daughter of John Arthur and Lennie Eurina (Newton) Hinkson. She grew up in Childwold and attended the local elementary school. Margaret graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1934. In the fall of 1936, she was married to Leonard Mose Dumas of Tupper Lake. For some time she enjoyed working in Central Supply at Sunmount. She had always been a congregate Presbyterian of the United Community Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1944. Mrs. Dumas is survived by a son, Alden Dumas and his wife Pauline of Keene Valley, N.Y.; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Dumas of Pownal, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Eileen Hinkson of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and four grandsons Matthew Dumas and his wife Barbara of Keene, N.Y., Andrew Dumas and his wife Michelle of Jefferson, N.Y., Raymond Dumas and his wife Ginny of Hudson Falls and Joseph Dumas of Roslindale, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Brandon, Bryan Alden and Alexa Ruth; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard in 1992; a son, Frank; a grandson, Jay Eric Dumas; a brother, Alden Hinkson; and a nephew Byron Hinkson. Calling hours will be at Richer Funeral Home Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. An Eastern Star service will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, Sept. 5, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the cemetery in Gale. Memorial donations may be considered to the Presbyterian Church of Childwold or the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad. Gaetane A. Rabideau, 89, of Mooers Forks, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements were incomplete Wednesday evening at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Frada Santamore of Santamore Road, Churubusco died Aug. 7, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center. She was born on Feb. 17, 1924, daughter of Rosealba (Thibeault) and George LaClair. A memorial Mass was held on Aug. 12, 2003, with Father Howard McCasland officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Chateaugay Funeral Home. |
