Nathan Michael Powers

Ticonderoga — Nathan Michael Powers, infant son of Michael and Kimberly Powers of Ticonderoga, passed away Aug. 27, 2003, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Survivors in addition to his parents include two sisters, Amanda and Emily Powers of Ticonderoga; his paternal grandparents, Edwin and Shirley Powers of Raceland, Ky.; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Kathleen Liddell of Ticonderoga and Patrick and Peggy Armstrong, all of Ticonderoga; and his two great - grandmothers, Geraldine White of Ticonderoga and Alma Powers of Salyersville, Ky.

A graveside service will take place Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the family plot of the Stevenson Cemetery of Westport. The Rev. Paul L. Dufford Jr., pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.

Rev. Thomas Francis Driscoll

Alexandria Bay — Rev. Thomas Francis Driscoll, 72, died on Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at St. Cyril Rectory in Alexandria Bay, N.Y.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cyril Catholic Church on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at noon. Burial will follow at St. Cyril Cemetery. Rev. Msgr. Robert L. Lawler will preside at the Liturgy with Rev. William J. Gordinier as the Homilist. Priests of the Diocese of Ogdensburg will concelebrate.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Costello Funeral Home in Alexandria Bay. The body will then be transferred to St. Cyril Church for a prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by calling hours until 9 p.m. in the church.

Father Driscoll was born in Rochester, N.Y., on May 23, 1931, the son of the late Harold J. and Dorothy (Ruh) Driscoll. After receiving his early education at local schools, Father Driscoll attended St. Andrew's Seminary in Rochester, followed by Wadhams Hall Seminary in Ogdensburg. Father Driscoll continued his theology studies at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., before completing his studies at Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure, N.Y. On April 2, 1960, Father Driscoll was ordained to the priesthood by Most Rev. James J. Navagh at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg.

Upon his priestly ordination, Father Driscoll was assigned as assistant pastor at St. Mary's in Canton, Holy Name at Tupper Lake, St. James in Gouverneur, St. Mary's at Clayton, St. Bernard's in Saranac Lake and St. Patrick's in Chateaugay. Father was then assigned as history professor at Wadhams Hall. He attended St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vt., and was awarded a master of arts degree. After his teaching duties, he served as assistant pastor at Immaculate Conception in Keeseville and later at St. Peter's Church in Lowville.

Father Driscoll became pastor of St. Mary's Nativity in West Leyden and its Mission of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Fish Creek. Following this pastorate, he was assigned as assistant pastor at St. Bernard's in Saranac Lake, St. Peter’s in Lowville and St. Mary’s in Potsdam. He then served as pastor of the Church of the Holy Cross in Hopkinton and as Temporary Administrator at St. Ann's in Mooers Forks. Father then returned to his duties in Potsdam and later served as assistant pastor at St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg. Since January 1991, Father Driscoll has served as pastor of St. Cyril in Alexandria Bay and St. Francis Xavier in Redwood.

Father Driscoll also served on the Diocesan Liturgical Commission and as Associate Director of Communications. Until recently, he also served as a member of the Diocesan Finance Council.

In addition to his parents, Father Driscoll was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Weimer.

He is survived by three sisters, Elizabeth Marvel and her husband Clyde, Mary Stevenson and her husband William and Barbara Blakely and her husband Kevin. He is also survived by a brother, H. Joseph Driscoll and his wife Doreen; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jess P. Jacobsen

Plattsburgh — Jess P. Jacobsen, 94, of Elizabeth Street, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 16, 1909, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of Herman D. and Maria K. (Jurgensen) Jacobsen.

Jess married the former Leona Parrotte in 1928 at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Leona died in 1983.

In 1933, Jess worked as a bread salesman for Maple Grove Bread Co., which became the National Biscuit Company after World War II, which later became Interstate Brands in 1965. He retired in 1970 due to illness.

Jess was a founding member of the Clinton County ARC, former member of the Bobcat Hunting Club in Loon Lake and an avid hunter and fisherman in Northern New York and Canada.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and Donald Durocher of Beekmantown, Shirley and Ralph Emby of Yarker, Ontario, and Mary Jane and James Conway of Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife Leona, Jess was predeceased by one son, James "Peter" Jacobsen on May 5, 2002; and two grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Donations in his memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center or to a charity of choice.

Hilda S. Relation

West Chazy — Mrs. Hilda S. Relation, 81, of the Fiske Road, West Chazy, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at the home of her daughter, Jill Otis.

She was born in Altona, N.Y., on April 22, 1922, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Trudeau) Smart.

Hilda was a graduate of the Champlain Valley School of Nursing. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and tending to her flowers. Hilda was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed basketball. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church.

Hilda was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Marie Smart; and her husband, Elwood Relation.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill Otis and her husband Gregory of West Chazy; two sisters, Clare Beaubriand and her husband Jean of Plattsburgh and Janet Crowley and her husband Raymond of Altona; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Harry Giroux, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Friends wishing may make donations to the West Chazy Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Death Notices

Myrna M. Langlois, 94, of Alice Hyde Nursing Home, died there Friday, Aug. 29, 2003.

She was born July 16, 1909, in Hudson, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of John Adelord and Mary Margaret (Finlan) Aubin.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Monday in St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Francis Flynn officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fort Covington Street Road.

Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home.

Richard Frederick "Dick" Goodrich, 76, of Saranac died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

He was born in Saranac Lake, June 20, 1927, the son of Fred and Eva (Lesprance) Goodrich.

Visitation will be held at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard’s Church, with Rev. Kevin McEwan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
