John Joseph Roberts Sr.

Chazy — John Joseph Roberts Sr., 82, of Ratta Road and the Meadowbrook Nursing Home, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Springfield, Mass., on Oct. 13, 1920, the son of Clarence and Florence (Brigham) Roberts. On Oct. 25, 1941, he married Harriet E. Parrotte in Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Mrs. Roberts died on May 2, 2000.

John served in the U.S. Army from August 1944 to March 1946. He was wounded in battle on April 11, 1945, and received a Purple Heart.

He was employed by the Town of Chazy, working as a truck driver and laborer for 12 years and then as the highway superintendent for 15 years, until his retirement in 1982. Previously he held various jobs at Chazy Orchards, Pall Blade, Bayview Dairy and at area farms.

John was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1418 in Champlain and the Russell B. Child’s American Legion Post 769 in Chazy.

He is survived by seven children, John Roberts Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Boca Raton, Fla., Theresa Southworth and her husband Gary of West Chazy, Thomas Roberts and his wife Nancy of West Chazy, Gail Lewis and her husband Richard C. of West Chazy, Joseph Roberts and his wife Tammy of Chazy, Robert K. Roberts of Iowa and Susan Laurin and her husband Leo of Chazy; 16 grandchildren, Kevin, Scott, Kelly and Shannon Roberts, Melissa Shoup, Thomas Roberts Jr., Tammy Lopatka, Trisha Roberts, Richard Jr. and Tony Lewis, Jebidiah, Liam and Josiah Roberts, Lisa Roberts and Christopher and Lucas Laurin; 17 great-grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, Justin, Rebecca, John E., Megan, Nikita, Kayla, Tristen, Cassidy, Riley, William, Aimee, Mackenzie, Shyenne, Levi and Briana; and two sisters, Florence of Deland, Fla., and Vivian of Massachusetts.

John was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Harriet E. Roberts; and an infant son, James.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at 2 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Russell B. Child’s American Legion Post 769 in Chazy.

Edward J. LaFountain Jr.

Tampa, Fla. — Edward J. LaFountain Jr., 70, formerly of Morrisonville, passed away Aug. 27, 2003, at Town and Country Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 1, 1933, the son of Edward J. and Hazel (Bouyea) LaFountain.

He loved country music, old cars, WebTV and his dog Spot. He was active in his community at Fountain View Estates and will be remembered for his exceptional sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice C. (Ness); one son, Ron and Jennifer LaFountain of Plattsburgh; four daughters, Laura LaFountain of Plattsburgh, Leslie and Michael Dann of Saranac, Donna and Rick Klingebiel of Leesburg, Va., and Julie and Mike Clark of Plant City, Fla.; three grand- daughters, Jennifer, Valerie and Lydia Dann; two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Cassidy LaFountain; a sister, Nancy and Donald LaBarre of Homosassa, Fla.; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Edward J. Joe(y) LaFountain III; and a grandson, Jeremy J. LaFountain.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Saranac United Methodist Church, Saranac, N.Y. Burial will follow in the Saranac Independent Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association or the Morrisonville Fire Department.

Linda J. (Jackson) Edson

Ticonderoga — Linda J. (Jackson) Edson, 63, of Alexandria Avenue, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at her residence after a long illness.

She was born in Ticonderoga on Aug. 15, 1940, the daughter of the late Herbert and Xzilda (Blaise) Jackson.

Mrs. Edson has been a lifelong Ticonderoga resident, She was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School, Class of 1958.

Mrs. Edson was employed as an office manager for Fort Ticonderoga for over 25 years before her retirement in 1999. She began her career in Albany as secretary to Assemblyman Grant Johnson of Ticonderoga. In 1964, she became secretary to the Chairman of the Bicentennial Committee before her employment at Fort Ticonderoga.

She was a member of the Fort Ticonderoga Association.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard F. Edson; two sons, Michael R. Edson and his wife Jody M. Edson of Ticonderoga and William F. Edson and his wife Carol A. Edson of Middlebury, Vt.; and one daughter, Elizabeth L. Edson and her partner Jennifer L. Parker of Norfolk, Va. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Nathan A. Edson, Justin W. Edson, Krista J. Billings, Ross R. Billings, Melanie E. Edson and Nina A. Edson; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate.

The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

Germaine B. LeClair

Keeseville — Germaine B. LeClair, 73, of the Port Douglas Road, Keeseville, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, Vt.

She was born in Mooers Forks on Dec. 8, 1929, the daughter of Mose and Albina (Renaud) Rabideau.

Mrs. LeClair worked at AuSable Chasm for 38 years.

She was a member of St. John’s Church in Keeseville and the Keeseville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505 Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed the outdoors, especially walks in the woods and working in her garden. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Mr. Robert B. LeClair of Keeseville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Bobby Enfinger and Alice and Doug Knight, all of Keeseville; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Pamela LeClair of Keeseville; a sister, Laurea Craig of Keeseville; eight grandchildren; one great - granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Morris Rabideau; a sister, Antoinette Caviston; and five half-brothers and sisters, Clara, Homer, Ernest and Francis Rabideau and Lillian Pelkey.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Keeseville with Msgr. Leeward Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the Port Douglas Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad.

Arthur A. Tellier

Keeseville — Arthur A. Tellier, 81, of the Port Douglas Road, Keeseville, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Keeseville on March 9, 1922, the son of Alfred and Georgianna (Frazier) Tellier.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.

Art married the former Joyce Tyrell on June 26, 1954, at St. John’s Church in Keeseville.

He was a carpenter for many years and recently worked for the Town of Chesterfield.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Tyrell) Tellier of Keeseville; his five children and sons-in-law, Ralph and Deborah Wojcinski of Omaha, Neb., Brenda and Armond Woods of Keeseville, Sheila and Henry Bennage of Keeseville, Sandra Tellier of Scotia and Alfred R. Tellier of Schuyler Falls; four sisters, Valeda LeClair, Gladys Bombard and Joan Rock of Keeseville and Georgianna "Jan" Warren of North Carolina; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerard and Velma Tellier of Granville, Maurice and Linda Tellier of Peru and Ronald and Mary Tellier of Glens Falls; his mother-in-law, Mazie Tyrell of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren, Carolyn Frenyea, Elizabeth and Emily Wojcinski, Bradley and Kira Woods, Seth and Melanie Bennage and Mallory Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Omer and Herman (Chick) Tellier; and two sisters, Geraldine and Leona Tellier.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Keeseville with Msgr. Leeward Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial and full military honors will follow in the Port Douglas Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Boston or the Keeseville Rescue Squad.

Gifford — A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at 11:30 a.m. in the Norton Cemetery in Keene for Deborah H. Gifford, formerly of Keene Valley and Plattsburgh, who died April 21, 2003. Rev. Alan Lamica will officiate.
