Beulah M. Way

West Chazy — Beulah M. Way, 87, formerly of the Military Turnpike, West Chazy, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Altona on Feb. 23, 1916, the daughter of Loney and Sarah (Abare) Wells.

She married Clyde Way. He died in 1946.

She enjoyed baking and playing bingo.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Irene Way of Peru, Robert and Tina Way of Keeseville and Harold and Joan Way of West Chazy; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Fournier of Peru and Beverly and Raymond Blaise of Keeseville; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Arnold Wells of Peru and James and Gertrude Wells of Peru; one sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Edwin L. McGrath Sr. of Peru; and several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Rose Gonyea; one brother, Dorsey Wells; three sisters, Martha Way, Genevieve Giddings and Florence Laramie; and one brother - in-law, Merton Way.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Robert Svenson officiating. Burial will follow in the Peru Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Beekmantown Emergency Squad.

Richard C. "Rich" Goerlitz

Plattsburgh, N.Y. —

Richard C. "Rich" "Señor" Goerlitz, 58, of 19 Cogan Ave., Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at CVPH Medical in Plattsburgh, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 9, 1945, son of the late Charles and Alice (Berger) Goerlitz. Rich married the former Amelia "Mickey" Chambers on June 25, 1966, in Philmont, N.Y.

In 1967, he received his bachelor of arts in history at Plattsburgh State and in 1968 received his masters in Latin American studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He then received his teacher certification in history and Spanish from Plattsburgh State University in 1970.

Rich taught social studies in 1968 in Germantown, N.Y., for one year. He then moved to Plattsburgh where he began teaching Spanish at the Middle and High Schools. He remained at Plattsburgh High School, teaching for 30 years, until his retirement in 2000 due to illness.

Rich was a member of the Plattsburgh Teachers Association and the Teachers Negotiating Team for 30 years, serving as the chairman for nearly 25 years until his retirement. Whether it was with family, friends or students, "Señor" enjoyed many trips to Mexico, spending sunny days on the beach and evenings watching sunsets at The Captain's Cove.

Survivors include his wife Amelia "Mickey" Goerlitz of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a son, Richard C. Goerlitz Jr. of Sunapee, N.H.; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Goerlitz of Idyllwild, Calif.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marge and Thomas Russell of Ghent, N.Y., and Jean and Donald Fitzpatrick of Spencertown, N.Y. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

At Rich's request, there will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, at St. Mary's of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head in Plattsburgh. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hortense and Louis Rubin Dialysis Center in support of the Nocturnal Dialysis Program: 59C Myrtle St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Arrangements are with Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

Gary W. Duperron

Cadyville — Gary W. Duperron, 65, of Mountain View Drive, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Wyandotte, Mich., on Aug. 4, 1937, son of the late Emery J. and Mildred (Stein) Duperron.

Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a finish carpenter, formerly employed by Booth Construction and was currently employed at SUNY Plattsburgh. Gary enjoyed working in his wood working shop. He took great pride in the home he built and enjoyed the natural beauty that surrounded him.

Gary is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joanne (Rogers) Duperron of Cadyville; eight siblings, Barbara Calvin of Wyandotte, Mich., Larry and Carolyn Duperron of Pittsford, N.Y., Sharon and Frank Cuschieri of Southgate, Mich., David and Patricia Duperron of Rockford, Mich., Tim and Linda Duperron of Grosse Ile, Mich., Dennis and Patty Duperron of Flat Rock, Mich., Linda and Dick Damstra of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Marilyn Duperron of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2003, at noon from Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to Hospice of the North Country or to the Adirondack Humane Society.

Phillip Mandebvu

CHAZY, N.Y. — Dr. Phillip Mandebvu, 39, of Ridge Road, Chazy, died Monday, July 21, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident on Route 11 just west of the Rouses Point village limits.

He was born in Masvingo, Zimbabwe on May 13, 1964, the son of Ruvango and Ephie Mandebvu.

Phillip has been a research scientist at Miner Institute for the past five years and helped to add international dimension to its program. While there he was also a consultant to the World Bank in Bangladesh. Prior to coming to Chazy, he also did research at the University of Georgia at Tifton, Ga.

He was a member of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists and the American Dairy Science Association.

Survivors include his wife for 18 years, the former Florence Muvhuni; three sons, Tunga, John and Benjamin, all of Chazy; his father, Ruvango Mandebvu of Masvingo; and two brothers, Charles Mandebvu of Harare, Zimbabwe and Benjamin Mandebvu of Masvingo.

Phillip was a member of the Mooers Wesleyan Church where memorial services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2003, at 10 a.m. Funeral services and burial will be in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, at a later time.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Williams, 91, of Tupper Lake, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Mercy Healthcare Center.

Calling hours are on Friday, July 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
