Albert H. LaPine

West Chazy — Mr. Albert H. LaPine, 76, of the Slosson Road, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 13, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Champlain, N.Y., on Aug. 23, 1926, the son of Arthur and Malvina (Gelineault) LaPine. Albert was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He retired from Harris Bindery, formerly Sheridan Iron Works, in Champlain in 1971. Albert enjoyed berry picking, hunting, fishing and splitting firewood.

Albert was predeceased by his father, Arthur LaPine.

He is survived by his wife, Frances (Hebert) LaPine of West Chazy; a son, Steven LaPine and his wife Bonnie of Essex Junction, Vt.; his mother, Melvina LaPine of Latham, N.Y.; a sister, Irene Wondisford of Latham, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Craig, Wendy and Carrie; one great-grandson, Logan; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11 to 1 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Carlton Wu, retired pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Champlain and Rouses Point, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the North Country Animal Shelter, P.0. Box 813, Malone, NY 12953.

Loyal S. Wright

Chazy — Loyal S. Wright, 94, formerly of Rural Route 1, Lake Shore Road, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1908, in New York City, the son of Loyal S. and Lillian (Skelly) Wright. In 1934 he married Beulah M. Marshall. Mrs. Wright died on Feb. 26, 2003.

Mr. Wright attended three years at the University of Vermont and graduated from Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y., in 1933. During 1945 and 1946, he served in the U.S. Armed Forces with the U.S. Navy in the Hospital Corp.

From 1947 to 1953, he worked for Montgomery Ward Company and was their representative in Europe for five years. He was senior purchasing agent at Ayerst Laboratories for 20 years from 1953 to 1973. He worked for 16 years at the Plattsburgh YMCA serving in many capacities. He was the Senior Citizens Director for seven years prior to his retirement on Sept. 9, 1989. One other special service at the YMCA was Director of Water Safety Exercises Program for persons with the Multiple Sclerosis Support Group.

Among his accomplishments and many services to the people of the community are those to the Boy Scouts of America, including Chairman of the Samuel deChamplain District of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the board of directors of the Adirondack Council of Boy Scouts, a member of the Advisory Board of Camp Bedford and a member of the Order of The Arrow.

He was also an instructor-trainer in the Hunter Safety Program of New York State for 30 years.

Mr. Wright was on the board of directors for the American Red Cross, Water Safety Chairman of Clinton and Northern Essex County for seven years. He was on the Advisory Board for the Office of the Aging. He also lectured on gerontology in area colleges in Clinton and Franklin Counties. He was a member of the executive board and vice president of Senior Services/Home Care., Inc. of Clinton County. Under the auspices of Retired Senior Volunteer Program, he served as a volunteer for several organizations for many years.

Mr. Wright was a charter member of the National Athletic Society of the University of Vermont, a life-time member of the National Ski Patrol and Director of the Adirondack Section Junior Ski Patrol. He served on the board of directors for Beartown Ski Area for 20 years. He was a life-time member of the Adirondack - Lake Champlain Recreation and Park Association, past member of the Barkeaters Bowman Archery Club in AuSable Forks; honorary member of the High German Hunting Club and a member of the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Wright was also a past Master of Masonic Lodge 1095 of Chazy; past master of Chazy Grange and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Chazy.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Wright-Duprey of Morrisonville and Mrs. Mary Jane Wright-Chalmers of Red Hook, N.Y.; one brother, Richard Y. Wright of Arizona; one sister, Arlene Gardiner of California; four grandchildren; and six great - grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 15 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Masonic ritualistic services will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy.

Memorial donations may be made to the Loyal S. Wright Endowment Fund for the YMCA.

Karen S. Johnson

Mooers — Karen S. Johnson, 46, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Amsterdam, N.Y., on May 7, 1957, the daughter of Julius and Ruth (Fox) Schriner.

She was a member of the Mooers and Ellenburg United Methodist Women and was active in all aspects of church life. She had a great love for all children and especially her own. She was a loving mother and was dedicated to children’s welfare. She also had a special fondness for pets.

She is survived by her husband, Al Johnson of Mooers; three sons, Nathan Porter of Mooers, Aaron Porter of Johnstown and Eric Porter of Mooers; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Eileen Schriner of Johnstown; a sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Jason Downing of Tribes Hill, N.Y.; her stepchildren, Leila Johnson of Blackwood, N.J., Jephthah Johnson of Gloversville and Yassin Johnson of Jersey City, N.J.; two stepgrandchildren, Zemzem and Beaza; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents died before her.

There will be no calling hours. A service of the Celebration of her Life will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday from the Mooers United Methodist Church with Rev. Wilfred Meseck officiating. An informal gathering will be held at the home of her brother, Ray Schriner at 6 Nare St., Johnstown, N.Y., on Thursday from noon to 4 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mooers or Ellenburg United Methodist Churches or to a charity that benefits pets.

The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers is in charge of arrangements.

Olive Morrow Braymer

Keeseville — Olive Morrow Braymer, 84, of Keeseville Country Gardens, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh with her family at her side.

She was born in Clarion, Pa., on June 27, 1919, the daughter of Charles J. and Edna (Wells) Williams. Olive enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, the North Country and especially her church family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Edna Williams; her husband, Rev. Lorenz Joseph Morrow, who passed away in 1962; and her siblings, Albert, Naomi and Ernest.

Olive is survived by her four children, Bruce Morrow of Keeseville, Mary Ann Fruchtenbaum of Irvine, Calif., Elizabeth Sanders of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Kathy Butler of Haslett, Mich.; three grandchildren, Jenny Butler, Wayne Butler and Rachel Sanders; her siblings, Jack Williams, Emil Williams, both of Williamstown, N.J., and Beth Wright of Averill Park, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Independent Baptist Church in Keeseville.

A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Dr. George H. Butler, her son-in-law and pastor of Grace Fellowship Church in Haslett, Mich., and Rev. Richard W. Wilson, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be private at the Whitemarsh Memorial Park Cemetery in Prospectville, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to Camp Shoshanah c/o Ariel Ministries, P.0. Box 3723, Tustin, CA 92781-3723.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

DEATH NOTICES

Calvin C. Wilson, 85, of Hurley Avenue, Lake Placid, N.Y., passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

He was born on June 4, 1918, in Standish, N.Y., the son of Arthur Z. and Myrtle (Winch) Wilson.

Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Tuesday, July 15th, from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be a Masonic Prayer Service on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Eustace Church in Lake Placid. Rev. Judson Pealer, rector, will officiate. Cremation will follow. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
