Lewis William Sanders III

Ticonderoga — Lewis William Sanders III, 39, of Ticonderoga, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003.

He was born in Ticonderoga on May 25, 1964, the son of Lewis William Sanders Jr. of Ticonderoga and Marilyn (Blood) Sanders of Gansevoort.

Lewis was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School, Class of 1983, where he excelled in both football and track.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Grenada in the 1st Division of the 505th of the 82nd Airborne Rangers.

Lewis attended Hudson Valley Community College of Troy and was then employed by the Operating Engineers of Local 4 of Boston, Mass. While with Local 4, he worked on the Big Dig in Boston as a crane operator.

Lewis was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and skydiving. He was also a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks 1494 and the Eagles Club, both of Ticonderoga.

Survivors in addition to his parents include one son, Lewis W. Sanders IV of Palm Bay, Fla.; three brothers, Craig T. Sanders and his wife Aletta of Hanover, Mass., William W. Sanders of Putnam Station and Eric M. Sanders and his wife Aimee of Atlanta, Ga. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. The Ticonderoga Elks will conduct a ritualist service at 8 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Lewis W. Sanders III Scholarship Fund, c/o the Ticonderoga High School, Ticonderoga, NY 12883.

Sullivan — A Memorial Mass for Carl J. Sullivan will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2003, at St. Peter’s Chapel with Msgr. Joseph Aubin officiating.

Helen G. Friend, 74, of the Spencer Road, Burke, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y., where she had been a patient since June 3, 2003.

She was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., on May 9, 1929, the daughter of Harold and Hazel (Hutchins) Moore.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Monday, July 14th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15th, in the Chateaugay United Methodist Church with Rev. Eleanor Bellows officiating.

Burial will take place at Burke Center Cemetery, Burke.

Doris R. Schweer, 81, of Pamela Court, Spotswood, N.J., died July 11, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was born in Plattsburgh on March 18, 1922, the daughter of Edward and Addie (Sanford) Webber.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.
