Published: 07/08/03Kenneth L. Blackorby Jr.Altona — Kenneth L. Blackorby Jr., 21, died Saturday, July 5, 2003. He was born in Burlington, Vt., on Dec. 24, 1981, the son of Kenneth L. Blackorby Sr. and Ella J. Blow. Survivors include his companion, Jessica Miller of Point Au Fer; his parents, Kenneth Blackorby Sr. and Ella Blackorby of Altona; a son, Austin Miller-Blackorby of Point Au Fer; a sister, Jennifer Blackorby and her companion Adam Glidden of Ellenburg Depot; three nephews, Patrick and Joshua LaFountain and Caleb Hebert; a close buddy Winford LaFountain of Altona; a very special friend, Marie Miller who was also known as his grandmother; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His paternal grandparents, Dorothy Goodrow and Clifford Blackorby; and his maternal grandparents, Richard and Lena Blow, died before him. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Holy Angels Church in Altona. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Christine Petro MurrayPort Henry — Christine Petro Murray of Broad Street, Port Henry, died Friday, July 4, 2003. She was born Oct. 4, 1957, in Ticonderoga, N.Y. Christine was medically discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1976 and has been continually treated by the Veterans Administration since. Christine was known for her generous heart for those in need and her great love of animals. She recently returned to her family in New York after many years of residing in Columbus, Ga. Christine is survived by her father, William Petro Sr. and his wife Kathe of Port Henry; her mother, Monica Ryder of Broadalban; her sister, Deborah Walters and her husband Richard of Wells, N.Y.; her twin sister, Kathy DeFelice and her husband Philip of Pensacola, Fla.; her brother William Petro Jr. and his wife Christy of Port Henry; her brother, Shane Cariffe of Elizabethtown; and five nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Gene Murray. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A memorial Mass will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry. Donations may be made in Christine’s memory to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad. Morris "Joe" RougeauPERU — Morris "Joe" Rougeau, 48, of Elm Street, Peru, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. He was born Dec. 14, 1954, in Plattsburgh, the son of Joseph and Margaret "Casse" Rougeau. Joe was a truck driver for Northern Sanitation of Plattsburgh. For several years he worked as a logger for James Smith of AuSable Forks. He was a mechanic at Goss Tires, Plattsburgh, he also was a laborer, working at several farms in the Peru area. He loved the outdoors and being with his family. Survived by his wife, Frances (Champain) Rougeau of Peru, whom he married Oct. 27, 1973, at the Holy Name Church, AuSable Forks; a daughter, Amanda Rougeau of Peru; a son, Michael Rougeau of Plattsburgh; seven sisters, Shirley Murcray of Legrangville, Mary Longe of Florida, Alice King of Peru, Marie Rougeau of Plattsburgh, Helen Dumont of Peru, Debbie Thomas of Pennsylvania and Nancy Good of Peru; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents and aunts and uncles predeceased him. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks. Funeral prayers will be held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home burial will follow at St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Peru. Memorials to Joe, may be made to a charity of your choice. Dorothy S. GolasEARLVILLE, NY — Dorothy S. Golas, 75, of South Main Street, formerly of Morrisville, N.Y., passed away Monday, July 7, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Saranac, N.Y. She was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Sanford, N.Y., a daughter of Alfred and Violet (Bolster) Schriver, and was a graduate of Morrisville Agricultural and Tech College in 1946. On Dec. 21, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage to Edward J. Golas in Norwich, N.Y. He predeceased her on Sept. 4, 1997. Mrs. Golas had lived in Morrisville most of her life. She had worked at the Gerrit Smith Infirmary in Eaton and then for Dr. Matthias in Morrisville until her retirement in 1989. She had resided in Livonia, Mich., for a short time before moving to Earlville. Dorothy was a member and a deacon of the Morrisville Community Church, where she had served on several committees and was a member of the Presbyterian Women. She served on the Morrisville Village Board from 1981 to 1990, and on the Village Zoning Committee from 1979 to 1981. She had also been a Girl Scout and 4-H leader and was a member of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary of Hamilton, N.Y. Surviving are three daughters, Tracey Golas of Saranac, Dorrie Snyder of Canastota and Laurie Adkins of Earlville; a son, Edward Golas Jr. of Denton, Md.; a sister, Linda Borman of Lake Oswego, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003, from the Morrisville Community Church, Swamp Road, Morrisville, followed by burial in the Morrisville Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the church on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Rocque, 21, of the Peasleeville Road, Schuyler Falls, died July 6, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Auburn, N.Y., Oct. 30, 1981, the daughter of Kevin J. Rocque and Priscilla Dawn (Gehrke) Gushlaw. Jessica was a graduate of Peru Central School in 2000. She attended Clinton Community College and took courses through Empire State College. She recently completed the Certified Nurse Assistant Course at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh, where she was currently employed as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Jessica volunteered a great deal of her time for childcare and worked in childcare at Clinton Community College from spring of 2001 to June of 2003. She enjoyed working with children, spending time with her friends, writing in her journal and loved her animals. Survivors include her mother and step-father, Dawn and Rick Gushlaw of Peasleeville; her father, Kevin Rocque and companion Susan Milne of Chazy Lake; her brother, Thomas Rocque of Plattsburgh; step siblings, Josh and Kris Gushlaw of Plattsburgh and Jamie Milne-LaClair; maternal grandmother, Lenora Smith of Peru; paternal grandparents, Claude and Noella Rocque of Morrisonville; stepgrandparents, Richard and Sylvia Gushlaw of Plattsburgh; great-grandparents, Walter and Teresa Ward of Montana; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many many friends. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Albert Gehrke; and step-grandfather, Scott Smith. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville with Monsignor Joseph Aubin, retired, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to a Scholarship Fund to be established in her memory at the Child Development Center of Clinton Community College. Jessica brought much joy into the lives of her family, her friends and all who knew her. Her genuine compassion and gentle caring ways touched all of the children and the elderly people she enjoyed working with. We will all miss her wonderful smile and good heart. She was our sunshine, a bright spot in our happy times and a comfort in our difficulties. Stuart B. DragonPlattsburgh — Stuart B. Dragon, 89, formerly of 35 Dennis Avenue, Plattsburgh, died on Monday, July 7, 2003, at the Palatine Nursing Home in Palatine Bridge, N.Y. He was born in Chazy on Aug. 2, 1913, the son of Bartholemew and Goldie (Jennett) Dragon. Mr. Dragon was a 1930 graduate of Plattsburgh High School and a graduate of Canton Agricultural and Technical College, Class of 1932. He was employed by GLF in Peru from 1937 to 1942 then in Plattsburgh from 1942 to 1949. In 1949, he became owner and operator of Dragon’s Feed Store in West Chazy until he retired in 1972. Mr. Dragon was a member of Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks 621. He served on the Canton College Foundation Board of Directors and established the Stuart B. Dragon Endowment Scholarship at SUNY Canton. Survivors include his wife, Mary Foster Dragon of Plattsburgh; one son, Thomas Dragon and his wife Nancy of Central Bridge, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His first wife, Esterine Jarvis, died in 1972; and a son, James Dragon died in 1960. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Chazy. Donations in his memory may be made to the West Chazy Fire Department or the Central Bridge Fire Department. Mary A. MatottPoint Au Roche/ Altona — Mary A. Matott, 91, of the Point Au Roche Road and formerly of Altona, died Saturday at her home. She was born in Champlain on Feb. 14, 1912, the daughter of John and Delia (Mesick) Belrose. She married on Oct. 30, 1929, at Holy Angel’s Church in Altona to George J. Matott. Mr. Matott died in 1971. Mrs. Matott is a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh and formerly of Holy Angels in Altona. Mary was an avid gardener and crocheter. She took great pride in her vegetable and flower garden and crocheted many beautiful bedspreads, tablecloths and rugs. Mary loved picking blueberries. Even into her late eighties she would return to "the Rock" in Altona. She also enjoyed going to the Third Age Center. Above all else, Mary lived for her family. She loved being surrounded by them and got no greater joy than holding a newborn grandchild or great-grandchild. Survivors include five sons, George Matott and his wife Jeannine of North Hero, Vt., Minus Matott of Harrisonburg, Va., Daniel Matott and his wife Christine of West Chazy, Lyle Matott and his wife Cynthia of Beekmantown and Dale Matott and his wife Dawn of Plattsburgh; seven daughters, Gladys Krauss of Decatur, Ga., Madeline and her husband Charles Huether of East Berne, N.Y., Magella and her husband Richard Healy of Manchester, N.H., Shirley O’Connell of Plattsburgh, Dorothy and her husband Al Allen of Glens Falls, Linda Bryan of Paso Robles, Calif., and Deborah and her husband Nicholas Mousseau of Point Au Roche; 136 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grand-children; and one sister, Flora Tremblay of Champlain. Twelve brothers and sisters died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Donations in her memory may be made to the Third Age Center, Sibley Hall, at SUNY Plattsburgh. Luke L. PatnodeLAKE PLACID — Luke L. Patnode, 75, died Sunday morning, July 6, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in Lake Placid, he was the son of Bartholomew and Winifred (Perkins) Patnode. He graduated from Lake Placid Central School in 1944, served in the U.S. Navy in Panama from Februa ry 1945 to July 1946. He attended Syracuse University for two years after which he worked in Alaska in construction and for Northwest Airlines.He returned to Lake Placid in 1955 as executive director of the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce. He headed the Essex County Tourism Department, he was instrumental in creating the "I Love New York" matching funds program, he was also the founder of the Adirondack Regional Tourism Counsel. He was involved in the formation of the Lake Placid Sports Council. He was one of the original Lake Placid Olympic Bid members starting in 1962 and stayed with it through the successful bid of 1974 which resulted in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. He is also listed as a member of the Lake Placid 1990 Olympic Games Executive Board of Directors. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen (Hand) Patnode; and an infant son, Luke Junior. He is survived by his five children, Bart Patnode and his wife Alethea, James Patnode and Kathleen (Kitty) Patnode, all of Lake Placid, Dan Patnode and his wife Fiona of Nashville, Tenn., and David and his wife Suzanne of Fort Covington, N.Y. He is also survived by his wife, Therese (Kendrick) Patnode of Lake Placid; five stepchildren, Mary Pat Baker, Suzanne Dixon, Mona Dixon, Amy Beaney and John K. Dixon, all of Lake Placid; three brothers, Bartholomew and his wife Ellie of Lake Placid, Edward of Lake Placid and Thomas and his wife Doris of Jay, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Alice P. Beeckel, Kathleen P. Kempa and Frances P. Dickens; and one brother, James Patnode. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The American Legion will hold a prayer service at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the Saint Agnes Church in Lake Placid, Rev. Michael Gaffney, officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Saint Agnes Cemetery. Donations in Luke’s memory may be made to Lake Placid Public Library or the charity of ones choice.
