Leon H. Dupee

Champlain — Leon H. Dupee, 73, of Champlain, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Champlain on Oct. 28, 1929, son of the late Dexter and Violet (Papin) Dupee.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War and was retired from the General Services Administration after, 34 years of government service. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals and had currently been working as the Town of Champlain Tax Collector and as a Trustee on the Village of Champlain Board.

He spent several years as a scout leader for Boy Scout Troop 41 and served as chairman for Citizens Party Caucus. He was a member of the Parish Council at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain, having served many years on the Bazaar Committee. He was a past Commander of American Legion Post 767 and was currently the 2nd Vice-Commander and Chaplin of the VFW Post 1418 in Champlain.

He enjoyed woodworking, doing craft shows and playing the accordion for the senior citizens.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marie (Glaude) Dupee; two sons, Lee Dupee and Diane Laurin and Neil Dupee and Carol Smith; two daughters, Julie and Ron Frennier and Tami and Dave Richer; six grandchildren, Adam and Cale Frennier, Sarah Richer, Steven Smith and Dawn and Kristi Richer. He is also survived by two sisters, Doris Bushey and Phyllis Tyrell.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Dexter, Lester, Richard, Robert and Philip; and sisters, Leona LaFontaine and Violet and Viola Dupee.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Church or the Champlain Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Sylvia E. Bull

Saranac — Sylvia E. Bull, 94, of McCutcheon Lane, Saranac, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in West Swanzye, N.H., on Oct. 6, 1908, the daughter of Abraham and Maud (Taft) Hanmer.

After her marriage to George H. Bull in 1929, she made her home in Saranac.

Sylvia was very active in the Saranac United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a dependable part of the church suppers and rummage sales. Sylvia was active in the Church’s Ministry and donated several great books for the children.

She was predeceased by her husband, George H. Bull; her parents, Abraham and Maud Henry; her siblings, Truman, Ted, Marcia, Winifred, Hazel and Gertrude.

Sylvia is survived by a sister, Viola Boggs of Alabama; a special friend and caregiver, Betty Carter of Saranac; a special niece, Shirley Thomas of AuSable Forks; and several other nieces and nephews also survive her.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 10:15 to 11 a.m. at the Saranac United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tracey Golas officiating.

Interment will be in Saranac Independent Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Saranac Methodist Church Sunday School Program.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row Cadyville.

Charlotte Irene Spooner

WESTPORT — Charlotte Irene (Phillips) Spooner ,72, of Fitzgerald Road, Westport, N.Y., died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was born on Jan. 1, 1931, in Elizabethtown, N.Y., the daughter of Gerald E. and Hazel (Smith) Phillips.

She was a graduate of Westport Central School and held an Associates Business Degree. She owned and operated Ideal Garage, Westport, N.Y., and was Program Assistant for Westport ASCS (FSA).

Survivors include daughters, Peg Wisell and husband Jack, Moriah, N.Y., Belinda Heald and husband Tom, Moriah Center, N.Y.; sons, Shaun of North Richland Hills, Texas; Gerald of Essex, N.Y., Paul of Westport, N.Y., Scott of Westport, N.Y.; eight grandsons; one special granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Bruce S. Phillips; and one brother-in-law, Howard Spooner; her companions, Barbara Gough and Greta Longware; the Village of Westport; and the whole damn town.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 3, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Phillip Neri Church, Westport, N.Y. Burial will follow in St. Phillip Neri Cemetery, Westport.

Memorial donations may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, CVPH Medial Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y., or to the Westport Fire Department.

Dean E. McLaughlin

Port Henry — Dean E. McLaughlin of Port Henry, N.Y., passed away in his sleep Friday, June, 27, 2003, from a battle with cancer.

He was a former pulp mill foreman for International Paper Company in Ticonderoga where he retired in 1992.

Mr. McLaughlin, born Feb. 20, 1934, is predeceased by his father, Henry Dean McLaughlin; mother, Anna; and stepmother, Marguerite.

A one time reknown photographer and avid woodcrafter, he is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joan (Maple) McLaughlin; three sons, Dean E. McLaughlin and wife Judy of Port Henry, Douglas McLaughlin and fiance Deborah Cunningham of Port Henry and Daniel McLaughlin and wife Patty of Ticonderoga; one daughter, Denise Connors and husband Jim of Knobnauster, Mo.; first cousin, Sandy Fernandez of Mineville, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A gravesite service will be held when the family can be gathered. Arrangements for the family are being made by the Harland Funeral Home of Port Henry.

He will be missed dearly.

DEATH NOTICES

IRENE G. RUBADEAU, 62, of Pike Street, Fort Covington, N.Y., died, Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.

She was born in Fort Covington, Sept. 3, 1940, the daughter of the late Herman and Edith Beaudin Bashaw.

Calling hours will be in the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Stephen Rocker, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

HORSTMEYER — Graveside services for Norah Horstmyer and her husband, Alvin Horstmyer, will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003, at 10 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery, AuSable Forks, with the Rev. Philip Allen, Pastor of Holy Name and St. Matthews Churches and Deacon David Comegys of St. James Episcopal Church, officiating.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
