Published: 06/21/03Eleanor "Betty" G. HagarCUMBERLAND HEAD — Eleanor "Betty" G. Hagar, 84, formerly of Cumberland Head Road, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the home of her daughter on Pt. Au Roche. She was born in Butler, Pa., on May 13, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Biehl) Fleming. Mrs. Hagar married Richard Hagar in Annapolis, Md., in 1942; he died in January of 2002. She was a secretary for Norm Foote Insurance for several years before working for Dr. William Ladue for 24 years, retiring in 1984. After retiring, Betty and her husband moved to West Springfield, Mass., where she lived until recently. Mrs. Hagar was a member of the 1st Congregational Church of West Springfield and a former member of the Clinton County Ladies Home Bureau. Survivors include one son, Richard D. Hagar Jr. and his wife Lee of Durango, Colo.; one daughter, Holly Drechsler of Pt Au Roche; one sister, Mrs. Vern (Janet) Rader of New Kensington, Pa.; three grandchildren, Amanda Hagar of Chico, Calif., Samantha Hagar of New York City and Carson Hagar Drechsler of Plattsburgh; and two nieces and one nephew. Calling hours will be held Monday from 9 to 11 a.m., with the funeral to follow in the R.W. Walker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the North Country. Lloyd J. ForkeyMooers — Lloyd J. Forkey, 68, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Mooers Forks on June 12, 1935, the son of Arthur and Isabelle (Favreau) Forkey. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958 during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at the Sheridan Iron Works in Champlain for several years and was later a steamfitter and plumber at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora until his retirement. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1418 in Champlain and the Mooers Knights of Columbus Council. He was also a member of the Mooers Fire Department for several years. He is survived by his wife, the former Julie Ann Monty; four sons, Lloyd Forkey Jr. of Island Pond, Vt., Christopher Forkey of Altona, Monty Forkey of Schuyler Falls and Lance Forkey of Altona; four daughters, Gail Bell of Mooers, Sheila Clark of Altona, Debbie Stoner of Altona and Lisa Bray of Mooers; a brother, James Forkey of Mooers; a sister, Janice Bulriss of Cumberland Head; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His father Arthur died in 1968 and his mother Isabelle died in 1996. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home for services at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Joseph's Church in Mooers. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Jane F. KingLoudonville, N.Y. — Jane F. King, of 21 St. Agnes Lane, Loudonville and Black Point Road, Ticonderoga, N.Y., died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany on Wednesday, June 18, 2003. She was born and raised in Ridgewood Queens and graduated from Bayside High School. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James P. King; three sons, Jim Jr. of Ticonderoga, David and his fiancé Kim of Albany and Glenn and his wife Theresa of Albany. Jane was the proud grandmother of Glenn and Theresa's triplets, nearly two-year-old children, John, Charlotte and Sally. Jane is also survived by two sisters, Doris Wilhem of Albuquerque, N.M., and Marjorie Thornton of Inverness, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Carolyn and her husband Frank Charlton and sister-in-law Ruth and her husband Dick Malaney, all of Putnam Station, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Jane was a registered nurse, receiving her degree at Northern Virginia Community College. She served at Fairfax General Hospital in Virginia and Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga, N.Y., as both a surgical and floor nurse. She also took advanced training at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. After her retirement, she served for several years on the Board of Directors at Moses-Ludington Hospital and also served on the Board of Directors at North Country Hospice. She was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Putnam Station, N.Y., and was a gifted self-taught painter as well as an enthusiastic beginning golfer. Above all, she was a superb homemaker who brought warmth, love and laughter to her family, her relatives and many friends. A memorial service celebrating Jane's life will be held at the United Presbyterian Church, Lower Road, Putnam Station, N.Y., on Monday, June 23, 2003, at 11 a.m. Friends of Jane and her husband are also invited to attend an informal gathering in her honor at the Albany Law School on Friday, June 27, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. For more information, call the Law School at 445-2311. Viola PalmerWHALLONSBURG — Viola Palmer, 87, died at her home in Whallongsburg Monday, June 16, 2003, after a long illness. She was born in Willsboro on July 8, 1915, the daughter of William and Mary (Dennette) LaMere. She and her husband owned and ran a dairy farm in Whallonsburg for many years. Mrs. Palmer was a member of the Whallonsburg Methodist Church and Farm Bureau. She was also a collie breeder and belonged to the American Kennel Club. In recent years she enjoyed the company of her large family and watching the birds in her many feeders. Mrs. Palmer is survived by her children, Joyce and Bob Bridge of Willsboro, Thelma Palmer of Whallonsburg, Joan and Otis Jones of Willsboro, Edith and Ron Tyrrell of Willsboro, Ethel and Marshall Hathaway of Willsboro, Mary Ann Crowningshield of Lewis, William Palmer and Annie of Whallonsburg, Betty and James Phillips of Westport; 36 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harry, in 1980; her brothers, Ben Lambert, Nelson (Bud) LaMere, Sylvester (Bill) LaMere; her sisters, Irene Kneeland and Dorothy LaBounty; her sons, Orrin, David, James, and Thomas; a son-in-law, Russell Crowningshield; and a grandson, Neal Palmer. Calling hours will be held at her home on Angier Hill Road, Whallonsburg, from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at her home at 2 p.m. Thursday, with burial to follow in the Memorial Cemetery, Lakeshore Road, Willsboro. Kelley, 64, of State Route 95, Bombay, died June 19, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, where he had been a patient since May 2, 2003. He was born in Bombay, N.Y., on Dec. 29, 1938, the son of the late Robert and Lois (Allen) Kelley. Calling hours will be in the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Ft. Covington on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 23, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ft. Covington, officiated by the Rev. Kris Lauzon, pastor. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Ft. Covington. Grace V. Provost, 74, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, died June 19, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Churubusco, N.Y., on July 31, 1928, the daughter of William and Stell (LeClaire) Chapple. Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Martha M. Sheffield, 79, of Greenwood Street, Lake Placid, N.Y., died June 19, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She was born in Malone, N.Y., on April 30, 1924, the daughter and stepdaughter of the late George and Lillian (Reyome) Goodman and Bertha (Fayette) Goodman. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A Bible vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone at 1 p.m. |
