George Carver Robert "Bob" Rice

SARANAC LAKE — George Carver Robert "Bob" Rice of 3 Pinehurst Road, Saranac Lake, died at his home Saturday, June 14, 2003, in the care of his family and High Peaks Hospice.

Born in Albany on Aug. 28, 1931, he was the son of George Carver and Loretta Verch Rice. A veteran of the Korean conflict, Mr. Rice was educated at Blessed Sacrament School, Cardinal Parley Military Academy and Notre Dame University. He was the retired owner-operator of G. Carver Rice, Inc. Furniture, Saranac Lake. Mr. Rice was a Democratic committee member and served for many years as the chair of the Saranac Lake and Harrietstown Democratic parties. He was a former member of the Saranac Lake Village Board and of the Harrietstown Town Board, and served as supervisor of the Town of Harrietstown.

His wife of 42 years, Gail Rogers Rice; two daughters, Suzanne Mary Rice and her husband, Clyde Baker of Saranac Lake and Barbara Ann Rice and her husband, Richard McCarthy of Williamstown, Mass.; two grandsons, Cal McCarthy Rice and Samuel Alex baker; and his mother-in-law, Rita D. Hadjo, survive Mr. Rice.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A Mass in celebration of Mr. Rice’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake.

In accordance with his wishes, a reception for family and friends will be held at the Hotel Saranac immediately following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through Fortune-Keough Funeral Home to Tri Lakes Humane Society, High Peaks Hospice or North Country Community College.

Robert E. Manigold Sr.

CHAMPLAIN — Robert E. Manigold Sr., 77, of Hayford Road in Champlain, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec. 23, 1925, in Watertown, son of the late George and Theresa (Bushnell) Manigold.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a part of the Battle of the Bulge. He was an avid golfer and a member of North Country Golf Club in Rouses Point. He worked for Harris Corporation in Champlain for more than 21 years before his retirement in 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine (Worden) Manigold, R.N., of Champlain; a son, Robert E. Manigold Jr. of West River, Md.; a daughter, Christine M. Mayer of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, John and Mary Jane Derrigo of Watertown and George and Julie Kuzma of Colonial Beach, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by a brother, George Manigold, and a sister, Sally Gibson.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. Internment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Rutland, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

LAWRENCE GEORGE RIVERS SR., 75, of Duquette Road, Beekmantown, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 24, 1928, the son of the late Henry Joseph and Mary (Scott) Rivers.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

ENRICO HENRY BERTOLI, 93, of Bridge Street, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. He was born in Germany on May 21, 1909, the son of the late Albert and Alvera (Norrio) Bertoli.

Calling hours will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

HAZEL K. ROONEY, 104, formerly of Dannemora, died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Arrangements were incomplete Sunday at O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

SAMUEL B. WALLS JR., 78, of Horace Nye Home, Elizabethtown, died Sunday, June 15, 2003.

He was born in Magraw on Sept. 23, 1924, the son of Samuel and Bernice (Widger) Walls. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Deland, Fla.

W.M. Marvins Sons funeral home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.

CLIFFORD F. BATES, 84, of Jabez Allen Road, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, June 15, 2003.

He was born in Buffalo on Feb. 2, 1919, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bates.

Arrangements are incomplete at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

EVA B. PRITCHARD, 72, of County Route 20, Constable, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.

Born in Russell on Aug. 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ruth (Davenport) Taylor.

Calling hours will be in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone at 10 a.m. Friday until the noon funeral service at the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Tom Davis, pastor of the Centenary Methodist Church in Malone, will officiate. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery in Malone.
