Published: 06/09/03Adelaide H. SweeneyPLATTSBURGH — Adelaide H. "Auntie" Sweeney, 103, formerly of Dannemora, died at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home Saturday morning, June 7, 2003. She was born in Bristol, Vt., on Aug. 23, 1899, the daughter of John and Margaret (Bousquet) Sweeney. Adelaide attended schools in Norfolk and then received her RN diploma from Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing in Ogdensburg. She trained in a New York City hospital before returning to Norfolk. There she was a registered nurse for Dr. Alfred Wheeler for 47 1/2 years. She moved to Dannemora in 1957. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Survivors include two nephews and wives, Ronald and Wanda Sweeney of Dannemora and Alfred and Jackie Sweeney of Enfield, Conn.; one niece, Martha Sweeney of Dannemora; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Adelaide was predeceased by one brother, Theodore J. Sweeney in 1977; one nephew, Robert Sweeney in 1997; and one niece, Margaret (Sweeney) Szido in 1992. Calling hours at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Funeral services at St. Joseph’s Church are 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Daniel A. LaPierreTROY — Daniel A. La Pierre, 53, of 7th Avenue in Lansingburgh, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the New England Medical Center after a long illness. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 21, 1950 and was the beloved son of Donald and Cecile (Rabideau) La Pierre of Mooers. He was a graduate of Mooers Central School class of 1968. He received his associate’s degree from Canton ATC and his bachelor’s degree from Plattsburgh State University. Dan retired due to disability in October 2000 from the NYS Department of Health where he had been an accountant. He had also worked for Deparment of Social Services and the NYS Board of Elections. Dan was an avid golfer, having been a member of the Van Schaick Island Country Club. He enjoyed all outdoor sports, including running and downhill skiing. He coached hockey with the Troy Youth Academy and enjoyed playing the game himself. He had a love for all classic cars and Dan was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh. He is the beloved husband of Carol Marie (Seymour) La Pierre, whom he married on Aug. 3, 1974. He is the devoted father of Christopher A. La Pierre of Lake Placid and Beth Danielle La Pierre of Troy; the dear brother of Dennis La Pierre of Saratoga Springs, Donna St. Hilaire of Fairfax, Va., Donald La Pierre of Mooers Forks, Darryl La Pierre of Houlton, Me., Doreen Coty of Altona, and Deanna La Pierre of San Diego, Calif.; also survived by 10 nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., at the corner of 115th Street and 4th Avenue in Lansingburgh; at 9:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine’s Church Preservation Fund, 25-115th St. Troy, NY 12182 or to the charity of one’s choice. The family has entrusted arrangements to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565-4th. Avenue Troy, NY 12182. William R. MosherHARWICHPORT — William R. Mosher, 81, of 187 Gilbert Lane, formerly of Upsala Street and Stevens Road in Worcester, Mass., died Saturday, June 8, in Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, Mass., of heart disease. He leaves two sisters, Eleanor M., the wife of Leonard Martinsen of Rouses Point, and Clair R. Mosher of Worcester; and a niece, Linda Martinsen of Middletown, R.I. He was born in Worcester, the son of William R. and Frances (Clair) Mosher and lived in Worcester before moving to Harwichport in the late ’80s. He graduated from South High School in Worcester in 1940. He was a World War II Army Air Corp. veteran serving in Europe and participated in the liberation of Paris. Mr. Mosher worked for Fannie Farmer Candy Shops in Worcester, Auburn and Hyannis for many years, retiring in 1980. He previously worked as a florist for Littlefields and Flowerland in Worcester. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 59 of Hillsboro, N.H. He enjoyed gardening and the beaches of Cape Cod. The funeral will be Tuesday, June 10 from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, with a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. A calling hour will be from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. on the morning of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cape Cod Hospital Cardiac Care Unit, 27 Park St., Hyannis, MA 02601. WALTER (KIETH) RANCOUR, 54, of Edgemont Street, Port Henry, died June 4, 2003, at his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Harland Funeral Home. |
