Published: 06/07/03Hyla (Guyette) LoughanRouses Point— Hyla (Guyette) Loughan, 90, of Rouses Point, passed away Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point. She was born July 5, 1912, in Rouses Point, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Emma Guyette. Hyla is survived by one son, Edward (Buck) Deloria of West Lebanon, Ohio; two daughters, Delores (Poochie) Maggy and her husband Edmund of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Sandra Burwell of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; five granddaughters, Wendy Leduc of Champlain, Dawn Deloria of Rouses Point, Kelly Martuscello of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Robin Maggy of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Melissa Mann of Lake Worth, Fla; four grandsons, Craig Deloria of Rouses Point, Lance Maggy of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Darren Maggy of New Hampshire and Randy HanfieId of Plattsburgh; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her brother, Wilbur Jr. and two sisters, Dorothy and Irene, predeceased her. There will be no public calling hours. A funeral service will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2003, at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. Special thanks to all of her extended family at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home who made her stay an enjoyable one, especially Rhonda Martin of Rouses Point, who took special care of her during her years at Cedar Hedge. George T. (Toot) SavageWitherbee — George T. (Toot) Savage, 75, of Witherbee, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at the Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, N.Y. He was born July 28, 1927, in Witherbee, the son of Edward and Mary Irene (Lafountain) Savage. George had been employed throughout the years with the LC&M Railroad, Republic Steel Corp. and Green Thumb. He was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Muriel Savage; his children, George T. Savage Jr. and Donna, Gary Hall and Gail, Starr DeAngelo and Don, Tim Hall and Kim, Ricky Savage, Lucinda Marx and Dan White, Teddy Savage and Corrina Garrison; his brother, Joe Savage of California; and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Albert Barkley of Elizabethtown; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George is predeceased by his first wife, Valedia (Hemmingway) Savage; two daughters, Cathy and Amy Savage; and his brother, Donald Savage. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Moriah. Katherine (Kay) Esther (Frein) LechowitGlendale, Ariz. — Katherine (Kay) Esther (Frein) Lechowit, 79, of Glendale, Ariz., passed away peacefully June 2, 2003. Kay, a philanthropist and prior business owner, dedicated endless years and resources, volunteering countless thousands of hours towards causes including but not limited to the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Catholic Charities, Catholic Women of the Chapel, Family Services, Red Cross and USO. For years she fed the hungry and clothed many of the poorest children in Africa. In spite of a massive cerebral hemorrhage she suffered in 1990, she continued to reach people and change lives, always for the better. She and her love of mankind will be very greatly missed. Prior to moving to Arizona in 1983, Katherine and William, her husband of 51 years, now deceased, resided in upstate New York, where they successfully owned and operated a community store. This woman truly lived her "dash", (1924-2003). She is survived by two sons, Bill Lechowit and wife Ramona of Dayton, Texas, John Lechowit and wife Nancy of Tucson, Ariz.; four daughters, Lori Cortright of Glendale, Ariz., Linda L. Connelly and husband Patrick of Glendale, Ariz., Sandi Mueller and husband Dan of Cypress, Texas, and Andrea L. Cater and husband Bill of Lakeside, Calif.; numerous grandchildren and great - grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, John Frein and wife Flossy; three sisters, Sister Irene Frein of the Franciscan Order, Gertrude May and husband Edward and Joann Helimer; and three in-laws, Anna (Lechowit) Kapler, Marie Lechowit and Ernie Loecher; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind one godchild, Melvin Mullenbach. A viewing and celebration of her life was held on June 6th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 59th Ave & Northern, Glendale. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, June 7th, at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael's Church, 55th Ave. & Acorna, Glendale. Roderick L. Curren Sr.Scotia — Roderick L. Curren Sr., 76, of Scotia, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Willsboro, N.Y., on Aug. 22, 1926, the son of the late John and Bertha (Shepard) Curren. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees, 143rd Navy Construction Battalion in the Philippine Islands during World War II. He was a longtime owner of R.L. Curren & Sons Aluminum Siding Company in Scotia, N.Y. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took great pleasure teaching baseball to his grandsons. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marjorie (Regels) Curren; his beloved children, Deborah (Curren) Pannone and her husband Anthony, Roderick L. Curren Jr. and his wife Kathryn and Marlene Curren; his sister, Helen (Curren) Puzier and her husband Steve of Newtonville, N.Y.; his brother, Richard Curren and his wife Alberta of Willsboro, N.Y. He was the cherished grandfather of Amanda and Brian Pannone and Sean, Christopher and Michael Curren; one aunt, Veletia Shepard; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Timothy Curren; his grandson, Justin Curren; his sister Marilyn (Curren) Egglefield; and his brother, Bruce Curren. Funeral services were held on June 3, 2003, at NewComer Cannon Family Funeral Home, Colonie. Interment was at Gerald B.H. Solomon VA National Cemetery, with his grandsons as pallbearers. Fleury, 84, of Route 30 in Constable, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y. Arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home in Malone.
