Joseph A. Jubert Jr.

Altona -- Joseph A. Jubert Jr., 46, of Joe Wood Road, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica.

He was born in Plattsburgh on May 25, 1957, son of Joseph A. and Priscilla (Lovejoy) Jubert Sr.

Joey was a 1977 graduate of Northern Adirondack Central School. He was a carpenter and currently was employed by A.M. Contracting from Cohoes as a supervisor. Joey was a member of St. Louis de France Church in Sciota. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed golf.

Joey is survived by his wife of 19 years, Catherine R. (Smith) Jubert of Altona; a son, Jason R. Jubert of Altona; a daughter, Krista L. Jubert of Altona, a daughter, Laura Benoit of Plattsburgh; his mother, Priscilla Jubert of Altona; five brothers, Dennis and Darlene Jubert of Altona, Jeffery Jubert of Altona, Brian and Lou Jubert of Altona, James and Julie Jubert of Altona and Thomas and Joy Jubert of Mooers; five sisters, Kathy and Tom Bonsie of Altona, Donna and Ken Peays of St. Petersburg, Fla., Candice and Alan Rock of Altona, Cynthia and Mark Connelly of Andrews Air Force Base, Md., and Mary and Gene Shaver of Webster, N.Y.; a granddaughter; several brothers and sisters-in-law from Canada; several aunts; uncles; cousins; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Saturday evening, June 7, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 8, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, June 9, 2003, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis de France Church in Sciota. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Paul V. Combs

Cortland, N.Y. -- Paul Vautrin Combs, 95, of 23 Glenn St., Cortland, N.Y., died June 4, 2003.

He was born in Three Mile Bay, N.Y., on Aug. 10, 1907, the son of George W. and Marie (Vautrin) Combs. He grew up in Watertown, graduated from Hamilton College with a B.A. in English in 1929, where he was a member of Psi Upsilon and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He received an M.A. from Harvard in 1932.

He has taught English at Hudson High School and the New York School for the Deaf and Blind in Brooklyn. Later, at Lafayette College, he taught English to Turkish engineering students, many of whom became close friends.

A resident of Cortland since 1949, he was on the faculty at SUNY Cortland for a number of years and taught English as a second language in Cortland night school. He retired from Cortland Savings Bank in 1972 after 23 years. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Cortland.

Mr. Combs was a bibliophile who enjoyed a life-long passion for reading, libraries and languages. He was especially interested in Shakespeare and once attended all the Shakespeare plays while living in Boston. He studied Greek with a small group of friends in Cortland for a time. His affiliation with Hamilton College was very important to him and he was active in alumni activities and attended every reunion until 1996.

His wife Lillian, whom he married in 1934, died Feb. 1, 1990. He is survived by two daughters, Judith Gallinger and her husband Robert of Peru, N.Y., and Deborah Fox of Freeville; and a son, Jeffrey and his wife Kathy of Cazenovia; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves a nephew, George Parker, of Austin, Texas; a niece, Rosemary Parker of Watertown; and a cousin, Carolyn Wiley of Cape Vincent.

Mr. Combs always enjoyed children and read stories to second graders in McGraw for a number of years. He swam and ice skated until late in his life and amazed his family with his astounding memory.

Friends and family will be received June 7, 2003, at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Cortland, at noon, followed by a Service of Celebration at 1 p.m. Burial will take place in Sylvan Cemetery, Greene.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Peru Free Library or Meals on Wheels.

Joyce Ellen Moss

WESTPORT -- Joyce Ellen Moss, 70, of Westport, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the CVPH Hospital in Plattsburgh, after a long illness.

She was born Dec. 25, 1932, in Port Henry, N.Y., the daughter of Percy and Ortha (Ferguson) Tryon.

Joyce was a member of the Westport Fire Department and Rescue Squad, the Westport Fireman's Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 324.

She loved her family, knitting and traveling.

She is survived by her mother; her husband, Dale Moss of Westport; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Danny Warner of Omaha, Neb.; a son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Kimberly Moss, of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Percy (Skip) Tryon of Westport and Reginald Tryon of Salina, Kan.; a sister, Rita Paquette, of Westport; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Marvin's Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2003. A fireman's service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lewis Cemetery, Lewis, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to the Westport Fireman's Auxiliary, the Westport Fire Department and Rescue Squad, or the American Legion Auxillary Post 324.

Victor H. Lamoy

Zephyrhills, Fla. -- Victor H. Lamoy, 84, died May 21, 2003, at Pasco Medical Center, Zephyrhills, Fla.

He was born in Upper Jay, N.Y., on Dec. 7, 1919, the son of Clayton and Edith (Rodwell) Lamoy.

He was a chief warrant officer serving in World War II in Europe.

He was a avid hunter, fisherman and author of "Echos From the High Peaks."

He was also a carpenter, working for Branch & Calahand and also Torrance and Trumbell. In his last few years, he was a caretaker for a boy's camp.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sue Lamoy of Peru; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Alan Gould of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three sons, James and Henrietta Lamoy of Plattsburgh, Leon and Shelly Lamoy of Saranac Lake and Alan Lamoy of Wilmington, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Clayton Lamoy Jr.

A family memorial service will be held at the Upper Jay Cemetery on June 21, 2003.

Mary M. Tarriero, 67, of Bouck Street, Dannemora and formerly of Keeseville, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville with the Rev. Richard Wilson, pastor of Independent Baptist Church in Keeseville, officiating.

Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Lena K. Huenerberg, 93, of Bayville, N.J., died away Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at her summer residence on Lake George in Putnam Station.

She was born in Selb, Germany, Nov. 26, 1909.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at a time to be announced.
