Published: 05/25/03George A. LaValleyMooers — George A. LaValley, 89, of Mooers, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. He was born in Mooers on Aug. 18, 1913, the son of Alex and Celia (Gero) LaValley. Uncle George was a trucking contractor and used car dealer until 1985. From 1964 to 1979, he was a U.S. Mail Contractor. In 1985 he was elected village trustee for Mooers and served for two terms. He was a special deputy sheriff for over 40 years. Uncle George was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club and the Mooers Nutrition Program Drop-in Center. On Oct. 7, 1951, he married Frances A. Goodman of Altona, who predeceased him on July 11, 1999. Two brothers, Francis and Maxim LaValley and four sisters, Albina Bodette, Alexina Glaude, Betty Griesler and Florence Corbiere, also predeceased him. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and his special friends who helped make his last four years happier by taking him to bingo, for rides, to the fairs, to diners where he loved to eat, caring for him and driving him to the Dialysis Center. Calling hours will be Tuesday morning, May 27th, 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. at Drown's Funeral Service in Mooers, with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Mooers. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Winifred BurgioGates, N.Y. — Winifred (Bernard) (Soucy) Burgio, died May 22, 2003. She is survived by her children, Theresa (William) Heid of Johnsburg, N.Y., Edward (Ruth) Soucy of St. Louis, Mo., Francis (Sue Lewis) Soucy of Ruckersville, Va., Michael (Sharon) Soucy of St. Louis, Mo., and Melissa Soucy of Anapolis, Md.; stepchildren, Charles Burgio Jr. of San Jose, Calif., Marilyn (Jim) Demmerly of Kissimmee, Fla., and Arnold (Elaine) Burgio; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Theresa Fiore of Glenn Barry, Md., Lucian (Philomena) Bernard of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Joseph (Joan) Bernard of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Soucy; and several nieces and nephews. All are invited to attend Winifred's funeral Mass on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Church (4100 Lyell Rd.) Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220 -3049. Wilber G. MooreMalone, N.Y. — Wilber G. Moore, 84, of 44 Moore Road, Malone, N.Y., died Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He had been a patient there since May 18th. He was born in Duane, N.Y., on June 24, 1918, the son of the late Arthur and Rae (Kerry) Moore. He attended local schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1947 in Europe. He was honorably discharged. Many years ago, he owned and operated a cabinet makers shop in Selma, Ala. He also owned and operated two restaurants in Selma. He was later employed by the U.S. Civil Service for the U.S. Air Force in Montgomery, Ala., and later on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base, for over 19 years. He also owned and operated two restaurants in Plattsburgh. He then moved to Duane, N.Y., where he again operated a cabinet makers shop and served as Town of Duane Highway Superintendent for many years. He retired in 1996 because of his health. He was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church in Malone, Malone Lodge of Elks, Malone American Legion, Malone Amvets, Malone Masonic Temple and Shriners. He was an avid hunter and woodworker. In 1939, he was united in marriage to the former Kathleen L. Rogers. The marriage ended in divorce and she survives. On July 17, 1976, he was united in marriage to the former Helen A. Shedrick in St. Regis Falls, N.Y. She survives. Along with his wife Helen, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Judy Moore of Potsdam, N.Y., Charles and Vicky Moore of Tuscumbia, Ala., and Jon and Dorrina Moore of Syracuse, N.Y.; one daughter, Rebecca Moore of Gloucester, Va.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Earl Thune of Albany, N.Y., and Barbara and Morton Gale of Duane, N.Y.; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Howard Moore. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Tom Davis, pastor of the Centenary Methodist Church in Malone, officiating. Burial will be in the Ladd Cemetery in Duane, N.Y. Donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners. Roswell A. FournierEllenburg — Mr. Roswell A. Fournier, 73, of Route 374, Ellenburg Depot, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Dannemora, N.Y., on Aug. 6, 1929, the son of Clifford and Louise (Barber) Fournier. Mr. Fournier was a member of the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force in 1974. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the North Country Vietnam Veterans Association. Mr. Fournier had also been employed at Dannemora Ford as a parts manager. Mr. Fournier is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Rowland and Vivian Fournier of Ellenburg Depot; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Seney of Ellenburg Depot; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Louise Fournier; three sisters, Phoebe Fournier, Rita Morley and Velma Seney. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dannemora, where the Sorrell - Woodward American Legion Post 1623 of Lyon Mountain will provide full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville. Skyler Jade Soulia, age 3 months, of 1247 County Route 24, Malone, N.Y., died unexpectedly Friday, May 23, 2003, in Malone. She was born in Malone on Feb. 12, 2003, the daughter of Josh Soulia and Brittany Latulipe. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Msgr. Dennis Duprey officiating. Burial will be in St. John Bosco Cemetery. Erhard Robert Suttner, 84, of Hague, passed away Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. He was born Jan. 26, 1919, in Tepplitz, Czechoslovakia. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at a time to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga. |
