Published: 05/24/03Charles William ChurchOcala, Fla. — Charles William Church died May 22, 2003, at his home of pancreatic cancer. Mr. Church was a native of Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of the late Walter and Beatrice Church. He moved to Ocala from Syracuse, N.Y., in 1964. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala and active in many of its ministries, including Brothers Keeper, Cursillo, Kairos Prison Ministry, Stewardship Committee and Covenant Mission Team. He traveled to Central America with the mission team to teach Bible school, build homes, playgrounds and work on various other projects. Mr. Church served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Colorado State University and a masters degree in system management from University of Southern California. Mr. Church joined the FBI in 1962. During his FBI career, he served in various divisions, including Miami, Fla., Jackson, Miss., Milwaukee, Wis., and the FBI Laboratory in Washington, D.C. Thereafter he returned to New York and went into the pharmaceutical business. He retired from Bristol Myer Squib in 1994. He had many hobbies and interests including wood working, camping, antique cars and flying. He held a private pilot license. He was a member of the Former Special Agents of the FBI and American Legion and a former member of AOPA and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Z. Church; and son John Church, both of Ocala Fla., daughter Deborah Lefebvre, son-in-law Michael Lefebvre, grandson Stephen and granddaughter Alysa Lefebvre of Melbourne Fla., son Michael Church of Sumpter, S.C., son William Church, daughter-in-law Sarah Turtle of Bethlehem, N.H.; sisters Joan Church and Susan Judkins of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and brothers Walter Church of Sarasota, Fla., and Robert Church of Plattsburgh, N.Y. He had numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his son Stephan. A funeral service will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala, Fla., on May 31st at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Lee, Mass., at a later date. Joseph Isaie (Issac) McGrawEssex, N.Y. — Joseph Isaie (Isaac) McGraw, 88, died at his home on Thursday, May 22, 2003. He was born in Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 3, 1915, the son of Thomas and Francoise (Dugas) McGraw. Mr. McGraw was a machinist for the Canadian Pacific Railroad for many years. He truly loved hunting and fishing. He passed his love of the outdoors to all his family. He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn (Blanchard) Tart McGraw of Essex; a sister, Aurore Laundry of Grand Anse, New Brunswick; stepchildren James Morgan of Essex, N.Y., Nancy Powers of Suncook, N.H., Philip Tart of Lewis, N.Y., and David Tart of North Hudson, N.Y.; stepgrandsons, James Morgan, Art and Kim Morgan, Tom and Tonya Morgan, William Morgan, Maria Tart, Rebecca Bessy and Scott Tart; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. McGraw will be cremated and his ashes will be taken to Grand Anse, New Brunswick, for burial at a later date. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the St. Joseph's Church in Essex, N.Y. The Huestis Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. George LaValley, 89, of Mooers, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Joseph's Church in Mooers. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A full obituary will appear in the Sunday Press-Republican. Turner — Graveside services for Henry D. Turner, who died Dec. 28, 2002, are scheduled for this morning, Saturday, May 24th, at 10 a.m. at St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville. Following the burial, there will be a gathering at the home of Robin Gwinn, 53 Honey Drive, Wallace Hill, Plattsburgh. Whitford — Graveside services for Gerald Robert Whitford will be held on at 1 p.m. on May 31, 2003, at the South Moriah Cemetery in Moriah, N.Y., with Rev. George Richards. |
