Published: 05/21/03Bobby Joe HowertonHARKNESS — Bobby Joe Howerton, 67, died May 19, 2003, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lamar, W.Va., on May 27, 1935, the son of Lee and Eva (Williams) Howerton. He was a veteran serving with the U. S. Air Force. Foreman for Luck Brothers of Plattsburgh, a member of the Local 186 Labor Union of Plattsburgh , member of the American Legion Post 504 of AuSable Forks, member of the VFW Post 309 of Peru. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survived by a daughter and companion, Betty and Richard Howard of Peasleeville; a granddaughter, Shahia Howard; a son and companion, Billy Joe Howerton and companion, Linda Facteau of Peasleeville; three brothers and their wives, Junior and Mary Howerton and Roger and Claudia Howerton, all of Harkness and Allen and Frances Howerton of Clintonville; former wife , Edith (Darrah) Howerton of Harkness; several nieces and nephews; three half brothers, Elmer, Harrison and Chester, all of West Virginia; and three half sisters, Ruth and Ollie of West Virginia and Frances of Virginia. There will be no calling hours or services at this time. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials to Bob may be made to the American Cancer Society, Northern District Office, 94 East Main Street, Malone, NY 12953. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Frank P. DiBernardoROUSES POINT — Frank P. DiBernardo, 61, of Rouses Point passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born Jan. 2, 1942, in Granville, N.Y., the son of Angelo and Jennie (Esposito) DiBernardo. He was a competitive pistol shooter. He competed in many events including the Empire State Games; he was a member of the Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club. He loved photography. His father and one son, Michael, predeceased him. He is survived by his mother, Jennie DiBernardo; his wife, Mary (Lamay) DiBernardo; one son and daughter-in-law, Angelo and Tammy DiBernardo of Rouses Point; two daughters and one son-in-law, Michelle DiBernardo from New York, N. Y., and Gina Tavernia and her husband Bill of Rouses Point; two sisters, Rose Ann Fabian and her husband, Ray of Castleton, N.Y., as well as Marie and Stan Pike of Troy, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Ashley, Cole and Jordan DiBernardo and Alex and Harley Tavernia. A mother-in-law; father-in-law; 14 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, also survive him. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church or the Rouses Point Rescue Squad. Frieda FrankosPlattsburgh — Frieda Frankos of 119 Oak Street, Plattsburgh, died Monday, May 19, 2003, after a long illness. She was born on June 11, 1921, in New York City to Dina and Nicholas Zaharatos. She married Andrew Frankos in 1939 and resided in New York City until moving to Plattsburgh. She, her husband and brother-in-law, Jerry Angelos owned and operated the well-known Crystal Restaurant on Oak Street from 1951 until their retirement in 1970. Frieda was raised in the Greek Orthodox religion and attended services at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh. She especially enjoyed gardening and making memorable desserts for family and friends. Her greatest joy, however, was traveling and visiting her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Paul Frankos and his wife Barbara, of Las Flores, Calif.; and her daughter, Olga Wesneski and her husband Anthony, of Newburgh, N.Y.; also, by four grandchildren,; Christopher, Matthew and Michael Frankos of California and Anthony Wesneski II, of New York; and a great-grandson, Andrew Allen; and daughter-in-law, Heather Frankos. She is also survived by four nieces and nephews, Athena Angelos of Plattsburgh, Diana O'Brien of Saratoga, Nicholas Angelos of Plattsburgh and Gus Angelos of Chicago; and several grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew; a sister, Dorothy Angelos of Plattsburgh; and a brother, Andrew Kemp of Athens, Greece. The funeral will be held at the Brown Funeral Home, at 29 Broad Street in Plattsburgh. Friends may call on Thursday, May 22, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held Friday, at 12:00 noon at Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Association and the American Heart Association. Gloria L. CrowleyPlattsburgh — Mrs. Gloria L. "Bo" Crowley, 70, of Margaret Street, Plattsburgh, passed away suddenly May 19, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Champlain, N.Y., on Jan. 23, 1933, the daughter of Frederick and Eva (LaValley) Gload. Gloria was known for a love of animals and grooming poodles. She enjoyed bird watching, Scomotion Creek and Lake Champlain. Gloria especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a member of St. John's Church. Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Eva Gload. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John F. Crowley Sr., of Plattsburgh; her children, John F. Crowley Jr. and his wife Pamela, of Plattsburgh, Michael Crowley and his wife Lisa, of Saratoga Springs, Rebecca Crowley of Seattle, Wash., Patricia Crowley of Plattsburgh; seven grandchildren; Jason, Noel, Andrea, Reilly, Kesi, MacKenna and Nolan; three brothers, Richard Gload of Florida, Peter Gload and his wife Mary, of Willsboro and Florida and Robert Gload and his wife Delores, of Crofton, Md.; five sisters, Betty Pinsonault and her husband Gerald, of Bowie, Md., Joyce Rock and her husband Herbie, of Plattsburgh, Marion French of Maryland; Leona Cartuccio and her husband John, of Marboro, Md., Mary Lou Snyder and her husband Charles, of Thorton, Penn.; two uncles, Alonzo LaValley and his wife Ina of Elmira, N.Y.; Chester LaValley of Arizona; several nieces and nephews also survive her. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. from St. John's Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends wishing may make donations to the American Arthritis Foundation. Eva J. Benware, 90, of Lyon Mountain, died Tuesday morning, May 20, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Calling Hours will be Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. from her residence at 51 2nd Street, Lyon Mountain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 23, 2003, at 10 a.m. from St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A complete obituary will be in tomorrow's paper. Marjorie A. Jarvis, 61, of Catherine Street, Malone, died on Monday, May 19, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt., where she had been a patient since Saturday. She was born in Belmont, N.Y., on March 19, 1942, the daughter of the late William and Martha (Bessey) Jarvis. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Malone, with Msgr. C. John McAvoy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery on the Lake Titus Road, Malone. SPRING BURIALS LAMBERT — A graveside service for Frank D. Lambert, of Ticonderoga, who passed away Nov. 19, 2002, will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, Ticonderoga. LUCAS — A graveside service for Alvin M. Lucas, of Ticonderoga, who passed away April 6, 2003, will take place on Friday, May 23, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the family's private cemetery on Buck Mountain Road in Crown Point. LaPOINT — A graveside service for Margaret Anne (Peg) LaPoint, of Ticonderoga, who passed away March 9, 2003, will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 11:45 a.m. at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.
