Published: 05/11/03Charles O'ConnorChazy, N.Y. — Charles O'Connor, 71, of Lake Shore Road, Chazy, N.Y., passed away April 13, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. "Charlie" was born on July 29, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Charles and Marion (Holmes) O'Connor. He moved his family to Chazy in 1983 to take a position at Chazy Central Rural School as Superintendent of Schools where he remained for 13 years until his retirement in 1996. He was fondly called "Mr. O" by both the staff and students during his tenure there. During his 36 years in the field of education, he served as an elementary teacher and principal, a junior high school principal and a high school principal before becoming Superintendent of Schools in Chazy. He fostered and upheld the traditions of Chazy school while making the students his first priority. He was an avid golfer, a fan of Notre Dame football and proud of his Irish heritage. Survivors include a daughter, Stacy Geant Hughes of Ridgewood, N.J.; three sons, Patrick of Queens, N.Y., Shane of North Reading, Mass., and Casey of Dayton, Ohio; and two grandsons, Henry and Samuel Hughes. He is also survived by three brothers and five sisters. A scholarship has been established in his memory. Those wishing may make donations to the Charles O'Connor Memorial Scholarship at Chazy Central Rural School. Dr. Eldridge W. Roark Jr. — A commemorative service for Dr. Roark will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 12:30 p.m. at the Blessed John XXIII Newman Center. A reception will immediately follow at the Plattsburgh State University Angell College Center Flynt Commons; all are welcome. Barbara H. Jock, 86, of Scanlon Road, Bombay, N.Y., died May 10, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since May 3. She was born in Dickinson, N.Y., on July 17, 1916, the daughter of the late Sidney and Mary (Martin) French. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cappiello - McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Bombay, with the Rev. Kris Lauzon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brushton, N.Y. Arthur E. Potter, 87, of 275 Lakeview Ave., Port Henry, died May 10, 2003, at his home. He was born on Oct. 12, 1913, in Anna, Ill., the son of Carl and Irene (Dillow) Potter. A gathering will be held at the South Moriah Cemetery on Tuesday, May 13, 2003, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. Arrangements are with the Harland Funeral Home. |
