Robert J. Sorrel Sr.

Lyon Mountain — Robert J. Sorrell Sr., died Monday, May 5, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born on July 3, 1931, in Riverview, N.Y., the son of Leeward and Olea (Garrow) Sorrell.

Robert's hobbies included hunting, fishing and gardening.

A Korean War Veteran, he was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Robert also was a retired correction officer and retired on April 5, 1989, after 35 years of service. Prior to being drafted for the Korean Conflict, he worked for Republic Steel (Lyon Mountain Mines) for 2 years. He was a member and past Commander of the Sorrell-Woodward American Legion Post 1623 of Lyon Mountain, a member of the American Legion Firing Squad, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7215, Holy Family of Lyon Mountain, a member of the Peru Memorial VFW Post 309, a member of the Merry Lyoneers Senior Citizens Club of Lyon Mountain and was a parishioner of St. Bernard's Church.

He married his wife, Abbie E. (Trippany) Sorrell, of 46 years on July 11, 1956, at St. Augustine Church in North Bangor by Rev. Frederick Shue.

Beside his wife, he leaves behind six children, Barbara Sorrell and her husband Greg Taylor of Delmar, N.Y., Robert Sorrell Jr. of Merrill, N.Y., William Sorrell of Richmond, Va., Jerry and Bonnie (Sorrell) Relation of Chazy Lake, Peter and Carleen (Rabideau) Sorrell of Altona, James Sorrell of Brushton, N.Y., and daughter-in-law Jennifer Sorrell of Chateaugay, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren, Jacob and Dana Relation, Peter II, Amanda, Karlie, Justin, Jason and Jesse Sorrell; four brothers, Richard of Malone, Thomas of Lyon Mountain, Howard of Tampa, Fla., and Roger of Plattsburgh; six sisters, Arlene Boland and Nancy Seymour, both of Plattsburgh, Helen Warren and Donna Goodrow, both of Altona, Rita Bushey of Mooers and Sandra Grubb of W.Va.; two aunts, Evelyn Bruno of Liverpool and Belva Collins of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Leonard and Donald; and a sister, Lorraine Foster, died before him.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home in Lyon Mountain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 8, 2003, from St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations may he made in his memory to St. Bernard's Church of Lyon Mountain.

Fred V. Zeitler

Beacon — Fred V. Zeitler, 89, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his home in Beacon.

He was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Hungary.

As a child, Fred and his family emigrated to the United States, passing through Ellis Island, where a plaque commemorates his U.S. citizenship.

He served with the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, seeing action in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy and Holland. After the war, Fred was employed as a NYS Correction Officer at Mattawan State Hospital for 35 years.

Fred and his wife "Smiles" enjoyed summers on Lake Champlain for more than 50 years. He enjoyed the North Country and loved boating and fishing with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Sarah "Smiles" Zeitler; his son, Paul Zeitler of Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Sarah Graves and her husband, Art; and two grandsons and their wives, Art and Kelly Graves and Spencer and Shelley Graves. He is also survived by a good friend and care giver, Shirley Coyle.

Fred had many friends, interests and accomplishments. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. A celebration of Fred's life will be held on June 21, 2003, in Beacon, the date of his 65th year of marriage.

The Libby Funeral Home in Beacon, N.Y., is in charge of arrangements.

Morris N. Hoy

PLATTSBURGH — Morris N. Hoy, 78, of 169 Wallace Hill Road, Plattsburgh, died on Monday, May 5, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center.

Mr. Hoy was born in Ellenburg Depot on Jan. 20, 1925, the son of George and Belle (McKinney) Hoy.

He married Dolores Gougeon at St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg Depot in 1946.

Before moving to Plattsburgh in 1947, he owned and operated the Hoy Farm in Ellenburg Depot. He was a machine tender in the pie plate department of Diamond Match Company for 37 years until retiring in 1986.

He was member of the Turnpike Wesleyan Methodist Church. Mr. Hoy loved to hunt, fish and garden and was an avid backyard bird watcher.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; two sons, Ronald Hoy Sr. and his wife, Janis of Cumberland Head and Terry Hoy of Tupper Lake; one daughter, Bonnie Fiato and her husband, Dennis of Latham; eight grandchildren, Randy and Kurt Fiato, Jeremy, Ryan and Ronald Hoy Jr. and John, Kari and Chad Hoy; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Brandon Hoy and Austin Burnette; and one sister, Ethel Lester of West Chazy.

Two brothers, Glen and George Hoy; and two sisters, Shirley Buchanan and Greta Webb died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services to be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sheldon Hill Cemetery in Ellenburg Depot.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.

Mollie Whiteley Cole

Ticonderoga — Mollie Whiteley Cole, 68, of Montcalm Street in Ticonderoga and Hollywood, Fla., died Friday, May 2, 2003, in Broward County, Florida.

She was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on July 30, 1934, the daughter of John W. and Eleanor (Merritt) Whiteley Jr.

Mollie lived her early life in and around Ticonderoga and she was a 1952 graduate of Ticonderoga High School. Although she moved to Florida in the 1970's. Mollie, throughout the years, maintained her ties to her many friends in Ticonderoga.

Beginning in the 1980's she maintained a residence in both Ticonderoga and Hollywood, Fla., up until the time of her death.

She was the former owner and operator of the Gull Bay Casino in Putnam and she once worked for the Ticonderoga International Paper Mill. More recently she worked for Doc's Bar in Ticonderoga and she also worked for the North Country Pub and the American Legion in Ticonderoga. While residing in Florida she was an office manger for New York Life Insurance.

Mollie devoted her life to her family and to her many friends. She cared deeply for all of them and was always there to help in times of need. She loved animals and life in all forms. She was a member of the Ticonderoga American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of the Ticonderoga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed sports, especially her Miami Dolphins. She was also a familiar spectator at local youth athletic events.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Cole Sr.; sons Roger Cole Jr. and Donovan Cole; and stepson, Ricky Cole; daughters, Donna Cole Evgi and Kim Vilardo; and stepdaughters Jackueline Fleury and Hanna Cole; one brother, John Whiteley; and grandchildren, Chase Carlson, Charnell Cole, Danielle Cole, Eleanor Whitely Cole, Krishna Cole, Shay Cole, Victoria Cole, Chelsea Cole, Michael John Vilardo Jr., Tara Vilardo, Jerid Vilardo and Arielle Vilardo, Tyler Cole, Derek Fleury and Nikki Cole.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 8, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2003, the Deacon Elliot Shaw, officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiteley family plot in the Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga.

The family requests memorial donations to the Ticonderoga American Legion Auxiliary.

Robert Patnode, 74, of Murray Street, Malone, N.Y., died unexpectedly, Monday, May 5, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y.

He was born in Vermontville, N.Y., Aug. 4, 1928, the son of the late Elmer and Mildred (Hoag) Patnode.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. in Malone.

BAKER — graveside service for Dominick R. Baker of Port Henry will be conducted Friday, May 9, 2003, at 12 noon at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Port Henry.

PATNODE — Committal services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2003, at St. Edmund's Cemetery in Ellenburg for Francis Patnode and Veronica Patnode. The arrangements are by the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

LOBBY — A memorial service for Margaret Looby, formerly of Chateaugay, who passed away in Deland, Fla., on Dec. 20, 2002, will be held Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco with Rev. Howard McCasland officiating. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.

Arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

SAMPLE — A graveside service for Ronald Lee Sample Jr., 38, formerly of Rouses Point, will be held Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Rouses Point with Rev. Maurice Boucher, officiating. Military honors will follow. Arrangements were by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

REEVES A graveside service for Sondra A. Reeves, who passed away over the winter will be held Thursday May 8, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville.

Arrangements were with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

MARTIN A graveside service for Joseph M. Martin, who passed away over the winter will be held Thursday, May 8, 2003, in the Treadwells Mills Cemetery in Treadwells Mills.

Arrangements were with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
