Published: 05/03/03Anthony R. ArnoEnid, Okla. — Anthony R. "Tony" Arno, 72, of Enid, Okla., died April 30, 2003, at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Arno was born June 30, 1930, in Ellenburg, N.Y., the son of Charles A. and Blanche E. (Barcomb) Arno. He married the former Audrey Marrs Maywood in Enid on Jan. 8, 1960. He joined the U.S. Army in July 1947 and retired as a weather observer from the U.S. Air Force in September 1967. After his retirement, he worked in the Open Messes at Vance Air Force Base. Survivors include his wife Audrey of the home; four stepchildren whom he raised, Alan Maywood of Mannford, Okla., James Maywood of Enid, Okla., Ilene Bailey of Tuttle, Okla., and Susan Maywood of Nashville, Tenn.; his father, Charles A. Arno of Witherbee, N.Y.; two brothers, Charles R. Arno of Mineville, N.Y., and Dennis Wayne Arno of Port Henry, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2003, in the Memorial Park Garden Chapel with the Rev. Tom Pullin officiating. Those who wish may make memorial fund contributions in his memory through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Arrangements were under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home, 601 W. Broadway, P.O. Box 507, Enid, OK 73702. Sylvia "Dorothy" DwyerPlattsburgh — Sylvia "Dorothy" Dwyer, 93, formerly of North Catherine Street, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility. She was born in Lyon Mountain on June 27, 1909, the daughter of Wilfred and Victoria (Rondeau) Duquette. Mrs. Dwyer graduated from D'Youville Academy in 1927. She married James Dwyer in 1938. Mr. Dwyer died in 1987. Sylvia took in many foster children from 1942 to 1956. Mrs. Dwyer was a former member of St. Peter's Church. She called bingo for the residents at Sacred Heart Nursing Home from 1966 to 1980 and was a avid bingo player in the Clinton County area for many years. Survivors include two sons, Donald and Patricia Butts of Rotterdam, N.Y., and David and Hazel Dwyer of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Estella Butts of Rotterdam, N.Y., and James Dwyer and Jennifer Dwyer of Plattsburgh; and one great - grandson, Kyle Dominy of Rotterdam, N.Y. She was predeceased by two sisters, Estella Jordan in 1967 and Evelyn Sherman in 1980; and one brother, Basil Duquette Sr. in 1965. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Tom Miller Road. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society. Adelaide A. PierceElizabethtown — Adelaide A. Pierce, 90, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital, where she had been surrounded by her loving family and Rev. Fred Shaw, who had become a very special part of her life. She was born in Willsboro, N.Y., on Aug. 22, 1912, the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Murray) Hathaway. Adelaide worked for the Horace Nye Nursing home for 27 years. She raised nine daughters and four sons. In recent years she enjoyed helping her son at the Arsenal Inn Restaurant in Elizabethtown, where she touched many lives through her special love and kindness. She greatly enjoyed helping others and had a real appreciation for music. She loved her dog Precious and her cat Dolly. She held a special place in her heart for two of her caregivers, Vera Blaise and Laura Jacquish. She is survived by nine daughters and their spouses, Alice Irwin, Fae and Donald Bigelow, Vesta Spring, Beverly and Leamon Moran, Doris and Bernard Colburn, Barbara and Nathan Gough, Sheila Keech, Deborah and Peter Heald and Faylene and Junior Montville; four sons and their spouses, Atwood and Carrie Pierce, Bruce and Marleen Pierce, Floyd and Rose Marie Pierce and Steve and Linda Pierce; two sisters, Ethel Doyle and Catherine Bigelow; one sister-in-law, Lunette Pierce White; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Floyd Pierce; one brother, Raymond Hathaway; two sisters, Grace Doyle and Dorothy Hathaway; and a great-grandson, Matthieu Moran. Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 4th, from 6 to 9 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, with Rev. Fred Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at the Reber Cemetery. Her grandsons will be the pallbearers. Donations in her memory may be made to the Reber Fire Department or to the Westport SPCA. ALTONA — Committal services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2003, at the Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona for Eileen Loftus at 1 p.m. and Robert Peryer for 1:15 p.m. The arrangements are by the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. |
