Raymond Lalonde

PLATTSBURGH — Raymond Lalonde, 61, of Sailly Avenue, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Brasher Falls on Dec. 10, 1941, the son of Omer and Yvonne (Bissonette) Lalonde. Raymond was a graduate of St. Lawrence Central High School and Albany State University. He had been employed at Plattsburgh City School District as a social studies teacher until he retired. Raymond loved participating, coaching and refereeing sports. He especially enjoyed golf, raquetball, fishing and softball.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 31 years, Constance (Burdo) Lalonde of Plattsburgh; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cassandra and Maxime Abellard of Plattsburgh, Reegan and Michael Spinney of Rollinsford, N.H., and Dayna Lalonde of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Charisse Abellard, Jalen Abellard and Analiese Spinney; eight siblings, Florence LaShomb, Jeannine Jacot, Robert Lalonde, Lillian King, Ronald Lalonde, Ivan Lalonde, Pauline Wells and Jacques Lalonde; and many nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by three siblings, Lorraine Cootware, Giselle Gibson and Patricia Stowell.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. tonight at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church, officiating. A reception will follow at St. John’s Parish Center. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Donations in Raymond’s memory may be made to Plattsburgh Booster Club or the American Heart Association.

Russell T. Raudenbush

SELLERSVILLE, Pa. — Russell T. Raudenbush, a lifelong resident of Sellersville, passed away Saturday morning, April 26, 2003, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the husband of Dorothy M. (Wagner) Raudenbush. They were married 74 years last September. He turned 100 on Jan. 18, 2003.

Born in Sellersville, he was a son of the late Titus and Katie (Clymer) Raudenbush.

On Sept. 15, 1928, he and his wife, Dorothy, got married mid-air in a small plane that took off from the former Patco Airfield in Norristown. They became quite famous as the area’s first couple to be married in an airplane.

Mr. Raudenbush was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the Battleship USS Florida after World War I. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked several years with the U.S. Guage, Sellersville, and was also a cigar maker in Sellersville. In 1923 he established the first taxi service in the Sellersville area with his father’s Buick. He later bought his own car, a 1922 Dodge Coupe, and eventually operated five cars. He also started the first car wash in Sellersville on the old mill property which became known as the former Buck’s Furniture Store in Sellersville.

In 1927 he briefly worked in Detroit for Briggs Manufacturing, where his brother Paul was a foreman. During a visit back home in the late 1920’s, he began working as a service man with the former Williams Oil Burner Company, Sellersville. In 1930 he established the first oil burner business in Allentown, where he worked as the service man and installer with his wife managing the office.

He later was employed in sales for more than 21 years with the former Hope’s Clothing and the former Treo Clothes, both of Souderton. Mr. Raudenbush then became co-owner of the former Earl-Russell Clothes, Sellersville for 13 years. He later worked 13 years with the Sellersville Water Department as a supervisor, retiring in 1974 at age 71.

He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Sellersville, where had served as an usher and was a past member of the Consistory and the Men’s Brotherhood. He was a longtime Mason and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon.

Mr. Raudenbush had enjoyed reading, gardening and collecting banks.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Janet M. Raudenbush of Sellersville and Beverly A. Raudenbush of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, R. James Raudenbush and his wife, Marilyn, of Dannemora, and R. Terry Raudenbush and his wife, Deborah, of Telford; four grandchildren, Pamela Prenoveau and her husband, Michael, of Plattsburgh, R. James Raudenbush Jr. and his wife, Pamela, of Dannemora, Christina Raudenbush of Plattsburgh, and Charlotte M. Snyder and her husband, Brad, of Sanatoga, Pa.; and five great-grandchildren, Leanne, Bethany and Jonathon Raudenbush, all of Dannemora, and Olivia and Michael Prenoveau Jr., both of Plattsburgh.

Mr. Raudenbush was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, LeRoy, Earl and Ted, and a sister, Pearl Frank.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 104 Green St. Sellersville, PA 18960.

Norbert F. ‘Buck’ Dashnaw

PERU — Norbert F. "Buck" Dashnaw, 86, of Route 22, Peru, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Schuyler Falls on Aug. 9, 1916, the son of Floyd and Sophia (Pockette) Dashnaw.

Buck served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married the former Mary E. Brown on April 21, 1946, in Beverly, Mass.

Mr. Dashnaw was a self-employed logger in the local area for many years.

He was a member of the Peru Community Church, the Peru VFW Post 309, and the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Dashnaw of Peru; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Laurie Dashnaw of Keeseville; one daughter-in-law, Vicky and her husband, Ray Tousignant of Morrisonville; grandchildren Amy Dashnaw and her companion, Ricky Stephenson of Melbourne, Fla., Terry and William Bushey of Acworth, Ga., Shawn Lautenschuetz and companion, Sarah Wright, of Jay, and Jason and Hilari Lautenschuetz of Keeseville; two great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn Dashnaw of Melbourne, Fla., and Harmoni Jane Lautenschuetz of Keeseville; two sisters, Gladys Maulding and Norma Gadouas, both of Swanton, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Members of the Peru VFW Post 309 will meet at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. and members of the West Plattsburgh American Legion will meet at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Peru Community Church with the Rev. Kenneth Parker, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in God’s Acre Cemetery in Peru with full military honors.

Donations in his memory may be made to Peru Rescue Squad.

Greg Alan Smith

PLATTSBURGH — Greg Alan Smith, 28, of Bradford Road, Plattsburgh, passed away Friday, April 25, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Plattsburgh on June 9, 1974, the son of Stephen C. and Joanne (Blanchard) Smith.

Greg was employed by Durocher Lincoln-Mercury Auto as an auto reconditioner. He enjoyed fishing, all-terrain vehicles, tubing with friends and his computer. His biggest accomplishment was his beautiful little girl, Ashley. She was daddy’s little girl.

Greg is survived by his parents, Joanne and Stephen Smith of Plattsburgh; his daughter, Ashley Stebbins of Plattsburgh; one brother, Eric Smith of Plattsburgh; his fiancée, Corinthian Duso of Plattsburgh; grandparents Esther Smith, Shirley Breyette and Orrel Blanchard Sr., all of Plattsburgh; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by a grandfather, Ralph W. Smith of Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Pall bearers will be Christopher Lapham, Darrin Smith, Henry Smith Jr., Patrick Premore, Paul Wright and Chris Blanchard.

Donations in his memory may be made to his family.

KEITH J. RUPERT, 37, of 116 Hinsdale Road, Camillus, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at the University Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in Ormstown, Quebec, Canada, on Feb. 23, 1966, he was the son of Kenneth and Donna (Reyome) Rupert.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Msgr. Dennis Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Constable Cemetery.

Donations may be made in his memory to either the American Diabetes Association or to the Organ Donor Recipient Support Group.

KATHRYN E. BEACH, 83, of 12 Spruce St., Malone, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at the East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills, Fla.

Born in Malone on Dec. 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Dumas Gonyea.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. THursday at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Notre Dame Church with Msgr. Dennis Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Notre Dame Endowment Fund for Catholic Education.

LENA DOROTHY COCKRAN, 79, formerly of Waterhouse Street, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated noon Wednesday from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
